" This is an action game in which players compete in one-on-one battles with characters from the Final Fantasy universe. Players engage in hand-to-hand combat in 3D arenas and use axes, swords, boomerangs, and magic spells (e.g., energy balls, summoned creatures) to drain opponents' life meters. Battles are highlighted by cries of pain, colorful explosions, and slow-motion sequences that zoom in on defeated characters. A handful of female characters wear revealing outfits that expose large amounts of cleavage; some of these characters' breasts also jiggle during combat. Some in-game text in also contains suggestive material (e.g., "Here's a better idea: 'Zoom camera into Tifa's cleavage!'"). Various portrait galleries depict partially nude female characters; the general shapes of their bodies are displayed instead of actual detail (i.e., no nipples or genitalia). The words "a*s," "damn," and "hell" appear in the dialogue." - ESRB statement according to Kotaku.
That was a description of the new Dissidia.
I don't have a problem with clevage but as I mature and hope that games do the same, this type of stuff has to stop. What happened to Square Enix? Neither Enix nor Squaresoft, before the merger pushed out crap like this? They had engaging stories and emotionally drew you in. It's as if the merger had caused them to lose all sense of intelligent story writing for this, this... crap.
The issues aren't just clevage, because that's not what they're traditionally known for, the issue is that they keep putting out shiny turds. It started after FFX with X-2 and ever since it's been down hill for the series of games Squaresoft created. That's including games that aren't even in the FF series. DragonQuests seem to be doing well and are staying true to tradition. I'm not saying that tradition is where we need to stay, if that's the case we'll never get anything new, I like innovation, but only if it's actually innovative and doesn't take away from something you already have. It's a shame actually, they've dropped out of my top 5 as a developer.
What do you think happened to them?
