We cannot announce anything on that. We can say that it will be released first [on the Xbox 360]. Whether we'll release it on the PS3 is undecided. We may release it, we may not, it all depends on if Microsoft responds to the blantant sell-out by paying us and publishing the game.Yoshinori Yamagish
Fixed.
This knid of thing is happening cause Sony completely assumed everyone would praise the PS3 no matter what they did. While Microsoft is working with developers and publishers to secure these titles, Sony sat back and assumed everyone would pay the $600 launch price and developers would all get in line to make expensive games for the system with the lowest installed base.
The reason the 360 leads in JRPG's and every other genre is because Sony was asleep at the wheel. So where does that put Sony now? Fighting for scraps....securing exclusives like Haze.
Well i think its fairly foolish of them, i mean your average jrpg player is most likely going to be a sony owner. I also think that when some of these titles dont do so well on the 360 they will be ported.jmig556
If you look at this from a worldwide standpoint, the main reason that the average jrpg player would be a sony owner would be because during the PS1 and PS2 eras, the only system you could really find jrpgs on was a Sony system. The Playstation brand was the RPG king by default. If we focus mostly on Japan, then yeah, things are different. But everywhere else, if someone is a fan of RPGs and has no console loyalty, then it won't matter. Plus, besides Star Ocean, these games are mostly new franchises in a niche market. There are few JRPGs that reach the level of FF and Dragon Quest, whether they land on PS consoles or not.
[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]MS just keeps throwing money around. THats how they got this. Its sad since MS tries so hard to win over the JPN market, but it will never happen.TheSystemLord1
MS didn't pay a dime for this. Star Ocean is Square Enix not wanting Sony to finish first this time around (a quote straight from their mouths in the beginning of this gen.)
Obviously Square is bought. X360 has no presence in Japan and X360 fans have shown they don't buy JRPGs on the X360.
Personally, I think all this news is just paid for propaganda coming from Microsofts day in Japan. I'm guessing both these games will eventually come to PS3 and they will be better as well.
I would have to say that SE would dumb not to put Star Ocean 4 and Last Remnant on PS3. Last Remnant is a western game so that I kind of understand, but Star Ocean 4 would be completely dumb. I mean the Japanese love Star Ocean and no one has a 360 over there so Squares thoughts on 360 exclusivity is quite dumb. Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Lost Oddyssey all failed to spark sales in Japan. I mean sure it went up from like a thousand units to five thousand, but it really does not matter. FF 13 must be one huge game, since that is the only game ps3 owners are getting exclusive. It is just sad that 3rd parties never gave the PS3 a shot. They complained that no one was buying it, but no 3rd parties even had any games on the system, so what are they complaining about? I don't mind buying a system, but I don't like the fact that I have to buy a 360 for one genre of gaming.
I am not saying that PS3 should get everything, but the huge future for ps3 doesn't look as bright. Don't get me wrong we still have a significant amount coming, but I don't like the way companies are doing business by announcing games for a platform and then switch or have timed exclusivity on one. I don't buy systems for what is out currently out I buy for what is announced for a system and so forth, and I don't think companies should just up and switch whenever they feel like it.
It is annoying that companies can just string people along and then are like "guess what, were not putting this game on that system anymore."
It's cool that companies want to expand and make games on all systems and not just one, but in a sense they are still doing that buy putting everything on 360. Yes there is no market for PS3 because no one has put anything out on PS3. Anyway it is a sad day for PS3 owners from Square Enix, although I am not surprised since they didn't announce any platforms at all for SO4. I guess the one article in that Japanese magazine on SO4 for ps3 was nothing but smoke and mirrors.
Also those of you saying they made things exclusive for money are pretty retarded, because if they release both the Last Remnant and SO 4 at the same time as the 360, then they could make even more money. If you delay a version on a system then people who own that system will just buy something else. Oh well less money for Square
