I think any true FF fan will agree with me, Squaresoft > Square Enix. We dont even have to go as far as FFVII and the PSone titles, lets go back to Final Fantasy 6. That game was epic.Elann2008yes ff6 is my all time fav.

I won't give too much credit to 5 Levels for Dragon Quest VIII.
After all Yuuji Horii was once again in charge of Dragon Quest game, and Akira Toriyama did the art work.
TriangleHard
Firstly, it is LEVEL 5.
Secondly, Hori Yuji as script writer and Toriyama Akira as character and enemy designer have had those roles in every single DQ game ever made, that doesn't mean LEVEL 5 can't be praised for their amazing graphical engine and fantastic programming. DQVII, which took 5 or 6 years to get released and had so much hype for it that it ended up selling over 4 million copies and became the biggest PS1 seller of all time in Japan, was complete crap compared to DQVIII. The team did do a much better job on the PS1 DQIV remake though.
DQVIII is as incredible as it is thanks largely to LEVEL 5's talented designers and programmers. I think Shirokishi Monogatari will be much much better than FFXIII, The Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4 combined. I just wish they'd release the damn thing already. It's hard to believe that Sony wanted the game to be a launch title!

I loved final fantasy 6. The music, characters, story, everything about that game was just awesome on a epic scale. I think the game came out at the right time. I love the opera scene that was totally kick ass. If square enix does a remake it better be damn good. For me as a previous poster has said that ff 10 was the last ff game that felt like a ff game. When final fantasy 12 came out it just did not feel like a ff game to me. As sakaguchi san and uematsu have said in interviews square enix should have stopped the final fantasy series at number 10. All great series must come to a end. I think square enix has ruined that series. Square enix should have stopped with the final fantasy series and started with a brand new series and left final fantasy alone. Square soft was a much better company back then than square enix is. All it seems se is all about is doing remakes or ports of old games. I just hope final fantasy 13 is a lot better than 12 ever was.
I have to say i totally agree with everyone here Squaresoft was by far the better company compaired to Square Enix, In fact I've started doing a video review on the FF titles from both companies, Parts 1 and are available now, with parts 3,4 and possiblely 5 coming soon.
Check it out if you want. Link to Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0GuV8p8qdg

Does anyone else besides me think the company was better off as Squaresoft rather than SquareEnix? Doesn't all of the SquareEnix main characters (or sub character) ressemble Yuna from FFX? Is FF going down the drain with SquareEnix?yung_slymi agree as well. Ssoft seemed to put out much better games in the old days. there not trash now by any means but still i liked there older games much better. and yes i think FF series has gone down the drain starting with ff10. i still play ff 6 threw 9 and love them as well as crono trigger. But i have no disire to play threw 10,10/2 or any of the others. iv not played 13 yet but from what iv seen and read i dont think i'll be adding it to me fav games list ;)
Square Soft gets the credit from the fans as the better developer mostly due to nostalgic reasons, and while not all titles in the Square Enix's era hit the sweet spot, the company has definitely taken major strides towards becoming a developer capable of attracting modern audiences in the global context.
in short, Square Enix > Square Soft.
holy cow... a 2-year old thread. the necromancy is strong in this one.
everyone agrees with you dude...square enix are turning into money hungry greedy fools....they were my favorite and now theyre slowly making there way down to EA and Activision although it would take a very huge terrible thing to get them on the level of hatred i have for ActivisionEazy1891
Funny thing about that is Square Enix published Modern Warfare 2 in Japan... so they're not too far off from Activision.

what that means is that it's a company which is financially strong and capable of tapping the business potential of the globalised market. it is by no means a bad thing.
the real problem of Square Enix, as a developer, is its over-reliance on the Final Fantasy franchise, and this is coming from a JRPG lover.

Oh, no when I said that, I didn't mean they were like-minded, I just meant that it was a funny coincidence how he hated Activision despite S-E's connections with them when normally one would think that the two companies are completely unrelated.
But yeah, Square does rely way too much on FF and a lot of their other games suffer for it - namely Star Ocean VI, which could have been so much better. If they were Rocktar, who treats GTA like their baby, this wouldn't be a problem because Rockstar knows how to consistently put out quality titles that aren't named after a crime.
Although GTA has remained a mega hit franchise since its advent in 2001 (earlier GTAs were practically non-existent in comparison), many will argue that it has gone stale long ago, and R* definitely isn't on my list of top developers.
but that wasn't my point. if you really look at the core of Square Enix - publishing =/= developing, something fans often forget - it has only three IPs that really matter. FF, DQ and Front Mission. Final Fantasy games have never lacked quality, but when a franchise is stretched over a dozen releases (close to 20 if you include the spin-offs) things are bound to be played out. in order to remain competitive as a developer, SE needs to break new grounds with its future projects. That means creating new IPs and trying new genres, to begin with.
Bottom line - as a publisher and a business, SE is fine as it is. but its creative output needs a serious boost if it is to remain a major player in the market.
Firstlty I'd like to start by saying that I'm sorry for 'bumping' (i dont know what means in this context) the thread but surelyI'm allowed to express my opinons, isn't that what forums are for?
Any way I think that square should have stoped after X all since have been poor to say the least. Also I have had to rework my video because the volume was too quiet so i will upload the modified versions very soon.
Thanks
