Hmm, lets see. I have had more fun playing MK9 than SF4 and SSF4 combined. I prefer DOA, Tekken and VF but MK9 so far is the best and most enjoyable fighting game I have played this gen next to Virtua Fighter 5. Not saying SF4 games were bad it's just that they left a bad after taste.

Both.

IMO SF has slightly better gameplay while MK has much better visuals and characters/mythology.

Street Fighter because the Answer lies in the heart of battle.

4NGoods

Funny you say that considering you avatar.

I like both but I have liked Street Fighter alot more and I like the way it plays much smoother.

Street Fighter: 3rd Strike is my favourite fighting game of all time, but I grew up with Mortal Kombat III.

Seems I like the 3rd edition of games?!

igorkharin
I see a pattern, something about the number 3. Conspiracies I say! Halo 3, MGS3, BF3, KZ3..............Three 3.......Wow, all great games. I'm going to name my son, three.

The New Mortal Kombat is what every fighter needs to look to in how to make a game.. It has a large healthy and diverse roster like all the other fighters out there.. But its jam packed with options, extras, game modes, a dev that has promised they will update constantly for balance (something thats unheard for this genere) and a multiplayer with numerous features.. Its pretty pathetic Capcom's fighter model is so outdated.. They released MvC3 with a boring arcade mode with awful ending cutscenes, a vs mode, practice.. And a barebones multiplayer that I would expect to see on the Wii or a game during the late 90's.. Not 2011.

I prefer Mortal Kombat. I've had a difficult time getting into Street Fighter... the childish look doesn't do it for me. Also, fatalities/finishing moves never get old with MK. my opinion!

That maybe true but there is too many shoto fighters in Street Fighter Dan, Goken, Akuma, Ryu, Ken and Sakura. That's a good chunk of the roster the ninja's may have looked the same but nowadays they don't have any special moves in common. With Street Fighter you can basically use the same strategies with each shoto fighter and be decent.

Foulcry

So out of 35 6 has a similar fighting style. Contrary to popular belief Ken and Ryu play differently from each other but ill give you them. Akuma no way he has a way different move set from them and Gouken is really nothing like them at all even when it comes you his fire balls. Sakura is also pretty different as well. They do play differently from each other and require different tactics.

Lets say you take out those 6 you still have 29 other people to choose from who are radically different from each other if shotos aren't your thing which is still more then MK9 has. I just find it hard for someone to cite Shotos as a reason when with Mk has the same stuff going on with it. Many of the characters have extremely similar teleport moves and many have projectiles which seems to be the major shoto complaint.

Have you even played the new one lol? I'll give you past games but the new MK is a lot more deeper then SSFIV not to mention none of the characters play look or feel the same. Stick with SFIV whatever but don't rip on game you have barely played or even played at all. Learn how to play it before you start spouting off non sense. The kid was giving his opinion just like you did. His didn't seem logical to you and your is definitely not logical at all to anyone that's not biased about either game. You coming off as a hyprocrite. I like SSFIV but I prefer the new MK game. It's faster and there is a lot more creativity in the fighting engine then in SSFIV. SSFIV is in tournaments yes but so is MK so far and I guess we will just have to wait and see if it sticks around after EVO. If it doesn't then you can be the one to tell me I told you so. Untill then relax dude.

I have played the new one and quite a bit. Imo its not deeper than SSF4 no were close actually. You call me a hypocrite but then go and say that Mk is deeper wouldnt say such a thing if you had actually invested time in SF4 you would know thats not true. Maybe its an opinion thing but the fighting community generally accepts. that SF4 is the deeper game. Shoot youve said it yourself Mk might not be around for long at EVO were as games like SF4 were guarenteed the day they came out.

Second I never said Mk was a bad game so who's the one that needs to relax. I actually like it quite a bit. I just stated why i prefer SF and why i think its silly for someone to say that they feel Mk has less clones than SF. Mk is and will forever be the clone king. yes in the new game they play different from each other but so do the characters in SF4. Something you would know if youve played both.

This is a tough one for me honestly, Back when both these great fighterscame out in the 90's I have been hooked! I'll have to go with Mortal Kombat because of how excited i was to play the first one, how I LOVED MKII, and of course Ultimate MK3 and TrilogyI haven't been so excited for a fighting game in such a long time, not even SF4 when it came out in 2009.I guess I just love Mk more for its over the topness, its creativity, and awesome set of bad ass characters.

I would argue that MK and SSF are both great and deep in their own ways.. They are both unique fighting systems and I really can't say which mechanics are supperior because they are both so different from oen another. And I would argue MK is no more guilty of cloning characters as Capcom with their street fighter series..

thanks for all your input guys, but couting the replies looks like a couple more people like MK better than SF. i guess it all comes down to what you grew up with and what type of fighting game you like. once again thanks for all your input , didnt mean to start a mini war :)

I love both games equally. They're both great in their own ways. However, I'd have to pick Street Fighter simply because I grew up playing that more than MK.

First of all I didn't say it wouldn't be around so learn how to comprehend what people say. It depends on the community because it is still a new game. Second I'm not being a hyprocrite because I never targeted anyone for liking a game more then the other like you I targeted you for getting upset because someone else had a different opinion then you. Imo it is a lot more deeper and I have played SSFIV alot. If your going to insult me learn how to come up with your own stuff instead of copying what I said to you. Also what fighting game community are you apart of because most high level players are saying this game is very deep and creative lol. Old MK games were clones....not anymore and you should probably get used to that and stop being such a fanboy. Maybe learn a thing or two before spouting off nonsense.

I grew up with with many fighting games but I'd take SF over other fighters because SF4 is the first fighting game that really have me hooked on the genre. I'm gained great skills with SF.

SF is consistantly great while MK seems to be getting back to quality. SF is wierd meaning they have different character classes in a way with grapplers, charge characters, and so on. MK is little more straight forward and easy to pick up and play. MK has always had the gore factor to appeal to many but SF as a fighter is better.

ON the surface theyre almost the same thing excpet MK has blood and lots of it.

But In the end, I think Street FIghter is probably a little more balanced. and deeper gameplay with different character classes.

But I still like MK more lol

I prefer MK.....from personal preference the west develops themes and art that **I** prefer as opposed to the wacky overly colorful and strange voices that emmanates from games developped in the far east.

Other examples aside from Mortal Kombat are:

Baldur's Gate

Dragon Age

Grand Theft Auto

Fallout

Assassin Creed

etc

I have played both MK and SF All my life (to the point in which my friends and me have stated that both games are the games that would define our gaming life because we have been playing those since we where young kids). But to say that the MK (even the new one) is deeper than SF is just nuts. If I would resume in a word my new MK experience, it would be "AWESOME", but street fighter is SOOOO much deeper with "Plinkings", tons of "option selects", very very strict timing combos created by your imagination (not just memorizing the pre set combos), etc etc At the end I guess it resumes if you are a hard core fighting game player o just casual. To TC, I guess you can get better answers in a fighting game forum web site than here.

I'll always go with Street Fighter. Street Fighter 2 is still to date one of my favourite verses games. Although, if the Mortal Kombat creators elected to release each time 30 different ways (turbo, hyper, crackbaby, etc..) then they may surpass Street Fighter. With games up to $50-60, likes just thank the studios for not putting us through that porting non sense anymore.

Street Fighter for sure.

Although MK(9)* is great.

* - Let's face it, MK got good only because MK9 came out. The rest of the ones since MK3 have been shoddy.

I just hope NRS will eliminate the lag. Being super agressive seems to always net you a win because your opponent cant react due to lag.

I would go for Mortal Kombat. There is more content in MK than in Street Fighter. You have got a story mode, a challenge tower mode, and an online mode. The game also has tag matches as well. Street Fighter 4 goes back to Street Fighter 2 gameplay and elements added in SF 3 like air blocks have been taken out. Mortal Kombat feels like the old games, but it also feels fresh and new. Everything plays pretty fast. Street Fighter 4 feels slow compared to it. I hate the fact that the matches take forever to end in SF 4 because of how things slow down after the final blow is struck. This is done to give the game an effect, but it slows things down. I just want to play and don't care about final hits looking cool. Street Fighter 4 is a cool game, but it feels like the same old thing. Mortal Kombat feels brand new while having a strong air of familiarity.

Mortsl Kombat. Too many Ryu clones in SF (less character diversity).

Gen007

lol seriously. You must not have played much MK over the years. Last time i checked MK had more palatte swaps than anyone else. Granted overtime they have come to play somewhat different but so have SF's.

for example

scorpion, sub zero, reptile, smoke, noob saibot, chameleon, rain , and ermac were all palatte swaps at one point with many similar moves.

and those are just the male ninjas by the way. I could make a list just as long for the female ninja's, cyborgs, shokan's and whatever else thats in MK.

Sf has had Ryu, ken, Akuma ,and maybe Dan? But they looked different and their move sets do vary just like MK.

You are wrong about the ninjas. Yes, they all looked the same, but they did not share that many moves in common with one another. Scorpion and Sub Zero have no moves in common. Reptile and Sub Zero have one move in common, (the slide). Ermac and Scorpion have one move in common, (the teleport punch). Rain does not share moves with anyone at all. The rain ball is different than Reptile's force ball and Ermac's energy ball. The rain ball allows you to control your opponent if it hits him or her. The other ones do not. The speed of Ermac's energy ball is different than Reptile's With Reptile, you can do a fast force ball, then a slow force ball, and then an uppercut. I don't think you can do a slow hadouken, then a fast one, and then a hard punch of some kind. Noob Saibot also does not share moves any of the others. No other ninja creates a shadow of himself that attacks the opponent on his own. Sub Zero's clone is just ice that stands there. The opponent has to be close for it to work. Noob Saibots shadow clone does not have to be done close range His teleport is not like anyone else's. No one else automatically slams the guy right after teleporting. I will say that human Smoke and Scorpion are copycats.

The female ninjas are also not the same. Millena has a teleport kick that comes from above. None of the other female ninjas have a move like it. Kitanas flying punch is used in a completely different way. Kitana has a fan lift that no other female ninja has. None of the other female ninjas can stun her opponent at all. Jade can make projectiles go right through her and throw her boomerangs high and low. Kitana and Mileena have to jump in the air to throw their weapons high. Even then, the weapons don't go high, they just move straight. Mileena has a roll move that hits the opponent and takes her to the other side of the screen. None of the other female ninjas have that move.

Robot Smoke and Sector share one move together, (the teleport punch). Cyrax has an entire different move set than either of the other cyborgs. Cyrax has a net throw, timed bombs, and a fast teleport without an instant attack. Since Robot Smoke is human Smoke, he does play similar to Scorpion. Robot Smoke is Scorpion and Sector combined. Sector uses missle attacks. One of the missle attacks homes on the oppoent and is almost guaranteed to hit him or her. The other cyborgs do not have that move at all. I don't think hardly anyone else in the game does either.

Your arguement falls flat on 95% of what you said. If you think the ninjas and the cyborgs are the same, then you did not play MK enough to realize how different they all are. I find that people who sneer at MK usually didn't play it very much, so they don't know all the ins and outs of the game. MK might not have 3 different puches or kicks, but it definitely is not simpler by any means.

street fighter is a better "fighting" game, but mortal kombat is more fun for people who dont play for competition.
