Dangers of being a gamer?
I'm 26, and I've been gaming since the NES days. I am and always have been a very dedicated gamer, yet I find the time to run my business, work out, hang with friends, family, have a social life, and do everything else that life requires.
What you face today is not the dangers of being a gamer, it's the dangers of not taking care of yourself. It was your choice to neglect your well being, and that's why you suffer today. The blame belongs on you, not video games.
I don't mean to be a dick, I'm just saying what needs said. I hope everything works out well for you, just don't use video games as your excuse.
Good luck.

Very good point. I could see gaming have something to do with it, but it is kind of a choice of lifestyle. Hell I'm 15 and I worry about my health. I always ride my bike places and hang out with friends, but I'm not a very healthy eater. I don't know I'm just ranting but I've got to get my act together.

i hope u get well.and by the way,i put playing football before gaming any dayI am a 35 year old male. I've been a gamer since 1985 when my parents bought me a NES. And now in 2008, the greatest year ever for gaming, my gamer lifestyle may ruined or potentially ended my life. I am suffering from chest pains and other signs of a heart attack. I also suffer from stress and panic attacks which brings on those same signs. I go to see a doctor on Monday, but if things get worse, I am rushing to the ER, thankfully just a mile away.
Heart attacks are the number one killer out there, and the scary thing is plenty of guys my age are getting them, and even guys in their 20s. I used to think you had to be 50 or older before you started worrying about that stuff, but my gamer lifestyle has put me at risk. While I was quite active as a child, my adult years have consistented of working at a desk job all day, coming home, relaxing to tv and gaming. Little exercise, and not much fruit and veggies in my diet. I may be paying the price for this already, and God, I hope I am not. I read a recent Time article that said kids are more senditary now than ever b4, and they are already showing signs of clogged arteries and diabetes.
I am writing this point to urge you guys to please get off your butt, and go do some good cardio exercising. You are hurting your body by sitting in front of the tv for hours on end. I read posts on here about people beating new releases like MGS4 within days and you can't tell me that you did this while spending most of the day being active. Eat well and exercise a lot. You don't want chest pains. IT is a horrible sensation that I would not wish on anyone.

There is nothing bad with being sedentary for a couple of days. Its bad if you are like that for long terms, meaning years. There is no new stuff here, this thing is as old as man itself. Im sorry for what happens to you, but every thing that you do in excess is an addiction, thus an illness. Self control is what differentiates humans from animals, if you cant control yourself, you are no better than an animal following its instinct. I walk 8km every day, I always walk from my university which is 8km away from my home, it takes me 1hour or maybe 1:30 to do the whole thing, but it keeps me in shape (not that Im an athlete). And people should stop eatink crap all day. Ive cutted a lot of meal kinds and reserved them for special occassions.
Its not gaming (although you can say it is or it isnt)
America in the last two decades have become the most obese society in the world cause of fast food, lack of exercise and dare to say it desk jobs (wow you sit on your bum 8-9 hours a day).
yeah i wont be surprised if the same happens to me. i just graduated high school and was very fit, played lots of sports, lifting weights twice a day, and then came across cod4, ive kinda let myself go over the past few months but im back to light exercise like running and lifting (not nearly as much).
That's a bummer. But you can't really blame it all on gaming. It could have had something to do with it, but that might not be the only factor. If you want to still play games and get exercise you might want to think about getting a Wii (Yeah, I said it. Go ahead and flame me.). Wii sports can be a workout if you get really into it. I haven't played Wii Fit yet, but it's supposed to be pretty fun. Of course it's not the same as actually getting outside and exercising, but if it's raining it might make a nice substitute. Hope you don't have any more complications!Ospov
Wii fit is the biggest crap ever. I mean, its fun when you used it for the games, but as an exercising gear its not good by far. Also Wii isnt good for exercise. Play all you wont, its still not good enough with the Wii since its centralized in arms movements. The WF doesnt recognize when you are doing the exercise bad, since all it cares about is presure spots, so you could actually hurt yourself, or you could end up doing all that for nothing.
Just go to a gym, they are disgustingly cheap get a PT for a couple of classes, and then start doing some routines that you see comfortable, as maybe walking. Using stairs instead of elevators, doing pushups when you get up from bed and similar stuff. But dont use the Wii or Wii fit as a training replacement.
lol im almost 37. Im down in Florida right now. I live in ohio.
Just ride on of these once or twice a week as you get older. On a decent track. And you dont even have to be good, just do it. Everything will be fine lol. And youll feel like your 20. Works better than any training machine I use off the bikes.
Another thing I found out on this trip, is wifi routers drag. Ive used one the whole trip.
[QUOTE="moshakirby18"]Dangers of being a gamer? More like dangers of over eating and lack of exercise...420Token420
QFT
I quote this QTF for ultimate truth!I have no problems at all. I eat healthy (lots of fruit ,vegetables, I don't eat (much) "rich in fat" food, I sometimes eat to much cookies and sugar but not everyday always. I don't drink Sodas (no more that a few a year)), I do sports, I get out of my house and I have a social life.
And I have time to game
The Dangers of Being a Gamer...no.
i think it really depends on the person. i beat MGS4 in 8 days and still managed to go to the gym every other day for at least an hour, work full time, spend time with my girlfriend, and have a social life...SirOWNZalot86you are totally right man
I dont think he was trying to spread the message that being a gamer is dangerous. He was just trying to get our butts off the coach and exercise. As a gamer, I cant say that gaming doesnt affect my habits. It does. It actually has a significant impact on my daily routine. Sometimes, instead of going out to play basketball or go to the beach and surf, I'm home playing video games. Granted, all this is our own faults, but dont you find it hard to miss a night of MGS4 or Gears of War online? Or perhaps a new game you just purchased? There are nights where I'm pinned to the television screen surfing gaming websites, reading up previews and any gaming news I can get my hands on. Not to mention, forum posts and blogs. The TC makes a great point, it can become dangerous and he doesnt want the axe and the hammer to hang over our heads.
Gaming is a strong force. It's an addiction. For some it's uncontrollable, for others it's casual. For some it's undeniably habitual. For all you know, you may think that you're healthy but you're not. Just because you're fit, or skinny, or not overweight doesnt mean anything, any more. You would be surprised how many "fit looking" people have some of the worst blood pressure, high blood sugar, and even high cholestoral levels. Sitting long hours in front of the TV, playing games or surfing the web will really ruin your eyes. And what happens to your muscles and bones? Inactivity = old age crippledness. Do what the man says and get out more. Get active. Get fit. Get life.
P.S. You'd be surprised how much more you'll love gaming when you dont spend all your time playing them. You'll appreciate it more and you wont get as bored. Too much of a good thing can be bad guys.
Elann2008
that is very true. thank you for the advice jeffbase33.
I work out 4 days a week, both with weights and cardio.
I do not spend more than 2 hours a day playing PS3, and most days I play a couple of games of Fifa 08 and maybe bang out a few tunes on Rock Band.
I am not one of these people that can sit in front of a tv all day and play games. I like games, but I like staying active too.
I took me a month and a half to finish COD4, and about the same time to beat Uncharted.

I agree with both these guys. There is no one to blame nut yourselves. Take responsibility. Again TC, hope all turn out for the better, but after this is over with, really think about your health and eating habits a lot more.
