[QUOTE="Plague27"]So playing gears of war online isn't playing gears of war? Your logic is flawed.moshakirby18

Well MGS is unique for this case. MGS4 = single player and MGO = multiplayer. They are both separated games packed in one disk. MGO uses MGS4's engine.

No offense, but your logic is terrible. By this logic, playing COD4 singleplayer is different than COD 4 multiplayer. It's the same game.

I think what he's trying to get at is that the gameplay of MGS4 and MGO are so completley different they really shouldn't be considered the same game.
With Gears of War and CoD4 the gameplay is exactly the same and there's not a lot you can do to change that.

From what I have played, it is incredibly similar. It uses the same mechanics, and the only difference is that stealth doesn't work. I really don't see why anyone would act like the two are separate.

Because stealth doesn't work. Online everyone is just running around with M4s, there's no stealth AT ALL in the game, where as the singleplayer game is ALL ABOUT the stealth, sure the controlls and thigns are the same, but there really isn't that much similair gameplay wise.

*also, MGO is god awful, MGS4 one of the best game I (and many others) have played.

But, in essence, it is the same game. All the mechanics are the same, and people could TRY to do stealth just like in single player, but everyone knows that it would not work. Just like in GeoW, in singleplayer, you need to use cover to even hope of getting through it, but in multiplayer, it turns into a run-up-and-shotgun fest. Player choices make the difference, not the actual game mechanics.

Also the graphics are bollocks in MGO :D

MGO uses the same engine as MGS4. But it's still not the same as MGS4. When stealth and Snake are absent, it's not MGS it's MGO. It's way different. Gears and COD4 are different situations.

No...people call it two separate games because it makes MGS4 seem like a better deal. I also believe they do this because, critically, MGO is very average. They are the same game. The only difference between MGS4 and every other game with multiplayer is that MGS4 multiplayer has its own name.

Exactly. MGS4 > MGO that's why we don't consider it the same.

Then just say "The single player in MGS4 is much better than the multiplayer." You can't say that it's an entirely different game just because it's not as good. You have to take the bad with the good.

It's definitley parts of the MGS franchise and if it were to be sold seperatley in shops I'd just see it as "that sh-t MGS game".
It's kind of like saying FF: Online and Final Fantasy whatever are the same game, a lot of it may be similair but the key parts which make Final Fantasy games unique aren't in the online version (the story, the turn based combat). The same goes for MGS4 and MGO in my opinion.

But FF: Online and FF whatever are in two entirely different genres. They have nothing in common with game mechanics. MGO is essential just MGS4 multiplayer with its own name. The only thing that makes it different from the single player are the approaches the players use.

That's what I've been trying to say. You said it. Well said. MGS games aren't praised for their online mode that's why I personally separate MGO from MGS4. MGS never had online to begin with, MGO is just an extra.

EDIT: Gears and COD4 without online = total failure. MGS without online = no one cares.

But that's just it, all MGO is is a standard multiplayer aspect of the game. Just because the Metal Gear series hasn't included multiplayer up until this point doesn't make MGO a separate game. It just makes it a standard multiplayer aspect. MGS4 doesn't exist in its own gaming industry.

...It's biggest flaw is that there truly is more watching then playing. And theres a great number of parts that we could have PLAYED as opposed to only watch

COD 4 would be just a good avg with no online. good story but dang, why only 4 hours?

Nanomachines were really annoying in that game, every problem they had was solved or regulated by nanomachines. They had nanomachines to control and destroy nanomachines, it got a little annoying but didn't ruin the experience for me in the slightest.

The nanomachines are kind of flawed. They did everything. -_-LuckyLy

I was extrreeeeemly disappointed to see that everything that was cool and original and supernatural about mgs is explained by nanomachines

I don't know about you guys, but I was strangely turned on by that butt crack . And I want to understand how people can say there are to many cutscenes. No codec sequences telling the story? Plus. The fact that most people still spent over 25 hours playing the game on their first play which is more than 90% other games out and still complaining? Double plus.

None of the above.

My custom vote goes to laggy online. But I am too addicted to stop playing it.

MGO is MGS4.

No it isn't.

Uh...yeah it is...

No it isn't and you would do good to remember that so you don't look so silly in the future. It is a separate game that is added in with MGS4. It fits on the disk, so there is no need for a separate disk. There is a reason you are the only one trying to correct me. That would be because I am right and you are wrong.

NOT ENOUGH GAMEPLAY.

Definitely the best game out there right now, but it was too short. Only other flaw? Revolver Ocelot without a reolver. Even though he was Liquid Ocelot. ;-;
