Evedently the PS3 uses an ordinary laptop harddrive, so you could jst upgrade your harddrive to what ever size you wanted (within reason)...KraigA

120GB seems to be the max I have seen so far (bought it for $80 on Newegg.com)

The point is not that the upgrade is 80gb instead of 60gb. The point is that the belief is that the new version will look different on the inside. Processor changes, Bluetooth moved / altered etc then in addition they will just swap the hard-drive to 80gb so the people that bought the first version of the 60gb won’t say they got screwed. Once again 20gb extra is not the big news – the new version is the big news…….

I have a feeling that the new PS3 in development is far more than just a hard drive upgrade.  C'mon people, they wouldn't redesign the thing to add 20 GB to the hard drive.  I think they are going through a redesign of the interal structure to bring the production costs down.  I would not be suprised to see a new PS3 come out, with larger hard drive and HD cabling for the same $599 price point.  Hopefully this is the case.bsager87

That make more since to me. I mean why did they even have a 20GB model when one Blue-ray disk can hold 25GB?? Once these disk are being made you want even be able to copy a songle dosk locally that just lame as hard-drive speeds are 10x faster.

So instead of a new thread lets bring this back. seems like everyone said no way might not be on the right page. Besides the FCC filings here is today's link.

yeah.. I too think there is something more to this..

Since they have to Integrate HOME into every new console and also MAYBE (maybe) they are going to put sixaxis controller with vibration bundled with those... and since they are doing all that..they might have thought that giving a 80GB HDD with everyone would matter much.

AND all this should be worth the same price.. then its going to be awesome :D

Early adopters aren't going to be too happy to see a brand new PS3 out so soon after launch. They'll think, "What could possibly be so wrong with my unit that they felt the need to undergo a redesign just MONTHS after launch?!"

I highly doubt that, if a new PS3 comes out it will probably just have a larger hard drive, no major upgrades.
