I heard that PS3 is discontinued to be sold in Australia. In first place.
I think that is the slow death inevitable death of ps3.
As far as I know they will only produce games like nfl fifa nba ... only sports games....

I think its the good time to switch for ps4 and the price cuts will be coming on winter time (Japan already done that)
Time for rest of the world i guess....

My question is... how many remakes we have so far and are there any more coming up???

I know there is Drakes Collection, which i am happy for but is it going to be the online play included in that or just single player missions?

Are there any other?

What do u think,.

Having skipped PS2 and PS3 I actually like em doing remasters, so long as they are quality remasters that take advantage of PS4's capabilities.

Really? Then my mistake. sry. NZ then. :) But actually doesn't matter really... They will most probably discontinue the sale of ps3 region by region.

EDIT:

I really want the StarHawk on the PS4 as a remastered game... I've played beta years ago.
I didn't really have a chance to play any PS3 games since past 2 years.

They will probably discontinue region by region as time marches on. Being discontinued is an unfortunate eventuality that we should have realized over the last two decades. That is the course and journey all consoles past, present, and future will embark upon. I still remember buying my PS3 back in 2006! :P

It would be nice to see a second StarHawk or remastered first game. I too played the beta and then I bought the game and I had loads of fun but I don't think the sales will justify the cost of the Starhawk port in lieu of potentially other higher demanding games. You said yourself as fun as the SH beta was, you didn't buy the game and are reminiscing on the fun beta experience. Unfortunately, a lot of people didn't buy it, so I can see why Sony would be reluctant to revisit the IP, although...

It would be nice.

Seems that New Zealand is the first country to see the end of PlayStation 3. Currently the PS3 has sold 85.6 million consoles worldwide. So finally PS3 sales have slowed down in Oceania to discontinue the PS3 in that region. Sony has noted that PlayStation 4 console sales are healthy at 25.3 million that they can focus on PS4 and begin phasing out PS3.

So this is just the beginning of Sony stopping production of PS3 in some countries and putting more focus and effort on PS4 development and games. Since PS4 is almost 2 years old. Sony is right to put the focus on it's 8th gen console. As for the PS3 it is the beginning of the end of the run for Sony's 7th gen console. It may limp to a final 90 million sold by the time the last one rolls of the assembly line. With 1 more year of games and on-line support. Maybe 2 years at the most. 2017 should be the end for PS3. While Sony focus is on PS4.

@Matthew-first: CoolyFett thinks its only a matter of time before SCE stops support for the PS3, but it still could be a long while. The trump card that SCE has is their back catalog and legacy games. There is still many PS1, PS2, PSP games not on PSN yet. Plus deals they can make with Sega and other third parties. Their future is in PlayStation Now with allowing the gamers to stream games without having to download or own them. Coolyfett thinks its a good idea to get out of the handheld business, but any PS gamer that is worth his salt will need to grab a PS Vita, mainly for that back catalog Coolyfett referenced earlier in Coolyfett post. If SCE can continue to keep the Vita available for gamers, that would be a great think, but by no means should they produce a successor.

I just bought 8 PS3 games (Spec Ops: The Line, Darksiders II, Skyrim, Modnation Racers, etc.) for $40 at GameStop during a sweet sale. I have no problem with PS3 being discontinued because the PS3 has a monster library where everyone could go back and find many games that they would enjoy. It isn't like the graphics are terrible on the PS3 either. I still think it looks great.

I think it is the right time to stop making "newer games" simply because the PS3 will have trouble to keep pace with the PS4. Sure Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4 and The Evil Within did a very good job in comparison videos but the graphic gap is gonna get bigger. Hopefully they continue with the less graphic demanding digital games though.

Well, u still had other titles coming out like for even an example, NFS Rivals... but next one is not coming on the PS3 nor Xbox360 and then u can see only the sports games are coming out. That time it was still a good time to play... even buy the last gen. systems.

I just dont know, should I keep my ps3 and x360 and still get another one... just keep em all as collection (adding psx, nintendo (nes) :P)

@Matthew-first: Well Matt SCE has to drop support for PS3 at some point and then start developing the PlayStation 5 console. They also need to update their PlayStation Now catalog. All of their systems get supported very well. Gamers can still download games on the PSP from PSN right now so that is a great thing even if a psp owner cant find UMDs. PSN and PS Now are the best parts of SCE. They just need to add more titles to their line up. Eventually PlayStation will get to the point where most of their well known games of all time will be available on PS Now and PSN to the point where you can stream or download games from PS2, PS3 and PS4. Thats the PSN coolyfett is waiting for.

Eventually, the support will slowly stop for the PS3 just like it did for the PS2. One good thing is however the library of excellent games and the very cheap prices for the games. If you missed playing them it's a great time to own one. Now to mention PS+ had been giving away good quality PS3 titles each month as well.

As others have stated, it's a matter of time and a natural progression for each console. Moving forward is expected but it's important to leave good legacy behind as well which I believe all previous PlayStation system did.

Playstation supports their consoles for a very long, the industry never forces them to upgrade. PSN is definitely a life extender for both PSP and PS3 still get firmware updates. People like to say the Vita doesnt get support, but if SCE can get the PS2 catalog to run on it, it will also extend the life of the Vita.

I like how they've handled the transition with this generation. Xbox Live and PSN have made older consoles more relevant for longer than they would be otherwise.

Sony usually are pretty good supporting their consoles. Just look at the PS2

@Coolyfett:

I got the 120GB Slim PS3 in 2009 (upgraded hard drive to 750GB). Later I would also get the 500GB Super Slim PS3 in 2012. Both still work great. I have a huge backlog library of games too that should keep me more than busy before I get the PS4.

I totally disagree. On average most people I talk to do not like or want a PS4. Those who have them don't like them, and those who don't don't want one. I also have one and hate it. I think the PS4 is an epic fail right now. At this rate I think you can expect the sales to tier off. Most people I know seem to be interested in only playing their PS3's. The titles coming out for PS4 just aren't interesting and there is no variety. I think an issue also is the severe lack of kids games or games geared towards female players. The PS4 has games almost solely geared towards men. Of the games I actually enjoy many of them have been corrupted into subscription based games and I'm just not going to pay that. I know one of them Elder Scrolls figured out people didn't like it and is now free right? That's good but this seems like a nasty trend I want nothing to do with. They are pricing many families out of playing games all together. They also won't be slashing prices of games. Yes, some of the older titles will get a bit cheaper but all I'm seeing lately is games priced upwards to almost $100, and that is just not going to happen for me and my family. Not on top of the PS Plus fee to do nothing. They aren't even making multiplayer games. Why would I want to pay for online access to nothing? Also the fact it's saving the entire disk onto my hard drive makes me say, nope. I don't think I'd be too hasty predicting the "death" of the PS3 any time soon.

Good move man. Coolyfett is also waiting for another price drop. The PlayStation 4 will be around for some years so its no rush.

Why, on each of those points? In my opinion the PS4 is better in almost every way other than misc playback features, and the library is growing fine compared to the PS3 at this same stage in its life. The primary downside, as I see it, is the non-free online play. Other than that, I think my PS4 blows my PS3(s) out of the water, from software stability and speed to controller quality and comfort.

Most of the complaints are that the game selection is poor, the cost of PS+ and the fact the entire disk is downloaded to hard drive.

Time is now to stock up on new PS3's so you can sell them 10 years from now for bookoo dollar. As far as the remakes go you might see some sports games come out but, everything else is going to slowly fade away.

I'm All About That PS3. I never got an xbox 360 because they charged you for online play, now ps4 is doing it, smh. I was not even anxious when they came out. I seen so many ps4's on craigslist going for the same as the PS3's + extras. Ha, that's got to tell you something. They hyped the ridiculous controller up too I remember. When I seen the demo vid of people flicking that little screen, I just thought... "How Retarded is THAT!". Yes their graphics are better but I could care less about that and or keeping up with the Jones'. I get tons of fun games to play on my ps3 for awesome prices. Lets see, I got my first PS3 in 2010, 7 years after it was made. So the way I see it, I got several more years before I even bother thinking of going for the ps4. And by then, the flukes should be out of them, better technology in them and more games available (hopefully with comparable pricing). but that's just me. I'll keep this thing as long as I can.

Right now is a good time to purchase a PS3 and games for it, the prices are going down and PSN has also very good sales ( which unfortunately I haven´t been able to capitalize, either I don´t want it or I already have it ).

That's some point indeed... to poke "Fire" :P
x360 services were paid... but I wouldn't care less for a few of those cents spent for the online play... I had really enjoyed all the online plays...
tho... After years of playing on the x360 I have noticed that ps3 in terms of online services (being free) was actually much better..
Tho, I still have both systems, I do play more x360 for some reason... I have kept ps3 for exclusives mainly and I am thinking of selling it for ps4....
But there would be so much nostalgia about that it is a hard decision to do so.... So, I'm in between keeping it or selling (same for 360, should i get xone?)
All I want is the backward compatiblity... that I can play my old games that I wish to keep... then I don't mind... selling it....

On the other hand I have kept (80%) working psone... the very first edition...
