Alright since ive seen alot of people her praising the game, and seeing as im on the 25th chapter (saving it for tomorrow, dragging out the story makes it funner imo) ive definatley come to the conclusion it was a good game. Yes, a good game. As everyone already knows, its absolutley nothign revolutionary. it does everything, but no better than any other game. Prince of Persia had better wall scalings and platforming. Mgs had nicer stealth attacks. Bourne Supremacy had cooler fist to fist quicktime events. And the shooting is basically a blend of gears of war and mgs. All in all, if u stripped off the story, this game would be really nothing more than 8.0 material. Its just not that good of a game. The Story is the ONLY and i repeat ONLY reason i even kept playing this game. On normal, there were som frustrating glitches, and some parts where it was really just unclear where to go. Other times, the way to go was so obvious, but unresponsive or complicated manuevers made me oblvious to them for another 5-10 minutes wasted. The checkpoint system rocked, as it really took frustration out. And one of the worst things, is how old the shooting scenarios have gotten. Hiding behidn boxes for 10 minutes swithcing off as hordes of enemies snipe at you get TERRIBLY boring. And i mean VERY boring. Even though its a fair challenge sometimes, and a joke others, its never fun. Stealthing around is actually fun. I had more fun in MGS easy mode running and gunning through it liek an action game, then i did with this action game which was meant to be an action game. The scaling got really annoying, and the puzzles were pretty shallow- although they looked very elaborate.

I really cant see myself replaying this, but i could see myself rewatching all the cutscenes, and playing the hell out of the multiplayer. If your not into stories, i say avoid this game. If your just looking for multiplayer, you should also avoid it. ive spent roughly under 10 hours, my counter says 10:44 ish, but i paused and left the house for an hour and a half today (didnt know that time paused in cutscenes count).

its 8-9 matieral, no where above 9.5

This would have been better placed in System Wars

you say STRIPPED DOWN the game is 8.0 material. Now lets rewind back to when you had not made this game strip, and you see the 9.5 material.

Then, if you skip all the cutscenes in MGS4, you have a bad game.

Skip all the cutscenes in Call of Duty, bad game.
Skip all the cutscenes in Resistancer, bad game.
Skip all the cutscenes in Ratchet & Clank, bad game.
Skip all the cutscenes in inFamous, bad game.

i loved it. so i really wont call that truth. im aware of the faults, but when you think about it, the good thing it does is 1) story and cinematics, complete with Indy-type high quality adventure story with lots of charms 2) production values and constantly thrown tense situation (the climbing of that broken bridge in tibet is a good example) 3) graphics 4) even tho the individual parts of the game (i.e. puzzle, shooting, stealth, etc) are not superior than other games, they are blended very well, making the game balanced 5) better-than-most level design (i did see better, yes, but they are not bad at all. a little typical maybe, but good nonetheless) and those 5 things happens to create a great game when it all comes together. so, i understand you, but i dont agree with you.

second to last poster: im just voicing my opinion. everyone here is just boosting the game as the greatest game ever. it really ruins peoples expectations. they go into the game expecting some awesome stuff, when it really is a great game, just over hyped. this happens alot, but its sad to see a real good game have this happen to it. And i dont think i suck really... i didnt use any guides and i like a challenge. The Glitches were weird sometimes, and unclearness in where to go was akward. The puzzles were very simple, etc

last poster: i actually love Ratchet and clank, best games ive played on ps3 so far (FTOD QFB). Call of duty is my second, love the mp, and the short campaign was just fun without cutscenes. i didnt play the other games, but meh, i hated mgs 4 as well even playing 1. story wasnt that great, i think uncharted 2 was better story wise.

Well, if your idea of a good platformer is Prince of Persia (a game that was basically one long quick time event) then obviously you are not going to like a game that requires skill. I never played the Bourne game, so I didn't realize that it set the standard for QTEs in video games. But I will take your word for it. Myself, I'm not a big fan of QTEs (which is why I consider the platforming in POP to be like a 7). I actually liked the fact that there weren't very many QTEs in U2. I guess a big fan of QTEs like yourself would have a different opinion though.

The truth about U2 is that it is a great action game with a great storyline and great characters. So yeah, I agree that a person who likes easy games full of QTEs would probably only be able to enjoy the storyline and would rate the game lower than the average person.

A game is made to be fun and entertain. What most people want nowadays is something to be "revolutionary" with every single game, which quite frankly isn't gonna happen. UC2 imo had a great story, great gameplay, puzzles, characters & voice acting, cutscenes and score, which made it very enjoyable and entertaining which a game is meant to be. You can say that it was "revolutionary" in the Uncharted series because it took a step forward by adding far more stuff like Competitive Multiplayer and Co-Op, not to mention updated graphics.

I think you failed to mention that the graphics are as good as it gets... It's hard to tell what is a cutscene and what is in-game sometimes... The snow and wind is amazing as well... Some of the action sequences are the best I've ever seen... It is very-very polished... They didn't take alot of risks but they did alot of things that work for other games and made it work very well...

ohhh let me expand on this... ever heard of convergent technology? Why do you think the iPhone is so popular? Because of how it brings different forms of technology (such as the mp3 player, phone, internet browser, gaming device) and puts it in one form. Sure most of the features arent as good as having seperate phones, computers, portable gaming devices, and music players. BUT just like Uncharted 2 it brings together multiple element people enjoy, instead of the need for 3 or 4 different devices or games.

Stripped down? okay so lets strip down Killzone 2 like lets take away the guns, obviously its not gonna be a good game if you strip it down, you have to actually include better things to make the game better. Evreything is a bad game if you take something out of it obviously especially something important like story.

Why strip it down? Judge it by what it is & leave it at that. The merits of a game are just that. They make a game worthwhile or not.

this has to be the silliest thing I have ever heard. What move would be good if you skipped all the dialog and only watched the action moments?

actually, i found the cut scenes in mgs4 excessive- its definitely the best game I played thus far but the long winded cinematics took away some

Agreed. But do any of those games blend all of the platforming, shooting, stealth, fist fights together so well along with an excellent pace? I think that's what makes Uncharted 2 so awesome

yeah i expected the game to blow me away, but i just felt completely disappointed while playing it. Its just another TPS game that aims to wow with its visuals but doesn't have any original ideas when it comes to design or gameplay.

jeez, these forums gettin sillier by the day. so u tellin me if the game didnt have story and it was stripped down it be a bad game? no sh!t Sherlock lol.....like everyone said, this game is awesome, they added everythin they can to it to make it a good game. every site is givin it 9.5 and higher. im sorry if i sound offensive but maybe u just suck at it? i honestly played it non stop since it was released and im ONE trophy away from gettin a plat. and i still want to play it, i love the gameplay, besides the story that sucks me in, i just love the game play period, this is truly the best game.

but u know wat? not every game is meant to be liked by everyone, someone is bound to hate on it or say its average game, yada yada yada. but as far as i know almost 95% of the ppl love this game.......i even hear it in my college classes, ppl next to me whispering to each other ohhh im on this chapter, chole or w.e her name is has a nice butt or i just beat the game on very easy lol and it was the bomb lol

P.S this is really BLOG material too

lol everyone is attacking my post from a different corner. What im saying, is that at its core, its generally not that great of a game. Ive played alot of games this gen, i own all three consoles, and im pretty open when it comes to sucky games. Ive played tons of games, and loved them, even when most sites didnt rate them that much.

First off to the one poster, no im not a "huge fan of QTE", nor do i like Prince Of Persia at all. This game just doesnt revolutionize anything, but the game prior to it, which also didnt revolutionize anything. Is that a problem? No, call of duty is a game i like very much, yet it didnt really revolutionize crap in its campaign, nor the multiplayer. But does it do it good? yes, and its polished.

Do i suck at uncharted? No, i dont think so. I never said i was bad at it, i said that sometimes the game was annoying, since some controls didnt really work when you try them at first. Other times, the game plays for you, when u just press X while hanging of a ledge, and you jump to something you didnt think about. That's pretty irritating to me, becuase it makes the game so simple, and so easy, i dont feel any satisfaction whatsoever. Teh shooting was nice, since u really did have to aim and try in order to bring something down.

I agree the graphics are better than anything ive seen so far this gen, but graphics never meant anything to me in games. Ive enjoyed a bunch of ds and wii games before, with awful graphcs, because im not about flash, over substance.

Yea, f course its great the game is almost liek a movie, and yes, i have been fooled into thinking i was watching a cutscene when i was really playing. but thats quite irritating to me personally, since im not getting into the game, but rather just playing along.

now everyone is bashing me, but i do like this game. of course i want to get the platinum (although i might replay the game over the course of a few weeks) but multiplayer is keeping me attached. dont think im bashing the game, im just giving an honest opinion.

dont buy into the hype

no, the shooting in this game was equal to that of its competitors. the story by far is THE best ive seen in any single game. I hated the story in MGS serious after the second game. it just got to stupid.

The more i've played the game (done multiple playthroughs) I realise how true what you say is, at first the game was amazing but now it's just meh and I probably wont touch it ever again ha ha, seriously if it didn't have it's stunning graphics I don't think people would love it as much as they do and all the reviews would be in the 8 - 9 range not 9+. Anyway great post don't worry about the blindly followng Sony fanboys disagreeing with you, this is the truth ha ha.

This is one of the best games I have ever played, I dont know what else you could have wanted. Its a shame you didnt enjoy it as much as most other people, it truly was a great execution of action/adventure/cinematics/platforming/shooting/story.

Blue_Panda

No where near a 8.....Deserves exactly what it got a 9.5. I also laugh because not many people agree with you. Thank you

i enjoy most rpgs, alot of mmos, online based shooters, and plain fun action games (i.e. Ratchet and clank, zelda, uncharted 1, brutal legend) the games that arent overhyped and are just plain fun

Uncharted 2 is an 8-9 for you, and you gave WII sports an 8.4? Surely you can see why people are dismissing your critique, no fanboyizm intended. Im on chapter 11 or so on hard and definitely will play through on crushing. The SP game is really fun and even when im done with the campaign ill definitly get hours on end of MP time. That being said it gets its due 9.5. Hell CoD4 gets a 9.5 from me just for fun factor online and its still nothing revolutionary. /shrug

I've been an Uncharted fan since the original and I actually agree with you to a degree. The game excels at nothing other than storytelling (though, to be honest, I felt the story was a disappointment... but that doesn't stop the characters from still being great), and high octane set-pieces. Everything else from the gun play to the stealth to the platforming (especially the platforming) has been done so much better. Thats not to say that the gun play or the platforming are bad (though the platforming felt really automatic to me), they are good, but just not anything special.

What makes Uncharted 2 great though is its' blend of all of these elements together, along with great graphics and the things it does excel at (storytelling and set-pieces) into one cohesive package. Sure, it would have been nice if the firefights were as diverse as Gears 2's, if the stealth was as in depth as MGS4's, and if the platforming was as fun as Prince of Persia's, but that's too much, instead all of these gameplay elements are tied into one package where they're still fun, but not the best you've seen of them individually in a game based around them.

Do I think it deserves all the 10's it been getting? Well honestly, I don't know as I can't play online due to my slow internet, but based on the SP alone, and the expecation that the online is pretty great I wouldn't give this game higher than a 9.3. I actually agree with GT's review, thought it hit the nail on the head.
