hi i own a ps3(60g) and a 360 and iwas thinking about getting into final fantasy and was wandering if it is as good as people say and what game should i get first.

Depends on who you ask. Myself I enjoy the series, in depth gaming and at least 100 hours of gameplay. Id grab the ps3 versions (13, 13vs and 14 online). I say this due to ff13 being designed for the ps3 (simular to fallout 3 but with roles reversed) and being ported to 360.hi i own a ps3(60g) and a 360 and iwas thinking about getting into final fantasy and was wandering if it is as good as people say and what game should i get first.

Basically you cant go wrong.
FFX is the best, but I'd start with the older titles since anything you may play after it might seem "old" or "downgraded."
Whatever you do, don't start with FFXI unless you like MMOs, don't mind paying a monthly fee, and/or wasting a good portion of your life away.

This too, go for FF3 for snes if you want some skin and bones of the series. 7 is a staple of the series as well, its what took FF to prime time.Yeah do not get recent and work backwards.. i started with FFX which is my favorite FF game.. and went backwards playing all of them and although i enjoyed them, i didn't enjoy them nearly as much as FFX.. skip FFX-2 that was terrible.. FFXll was eh..
well if you don't mind how older games look.. (graphics).. then sure play them all.. however if the graphics are going to hinder how you view it.. then just play 7 and 10.. which are the best ones i think.. and wait for 13, VS 13, and 14 which is an MMO..
Final Fantasy 1 and 2 are so old they aren't really worth playing. There is no story really. You have to level grind to the max in FF1-3. I would start with FF4 and just go all the way up until you reach 12. 4-7 were the best. FF8 was different but the system for everything can get complicated and annoying. FF9 is great and straight forward but it was not as original as the other games. FFX was very cinematic but a bit too linear.
FFT and FFVII is both on PSN now.
Those two are the best FF games in the franchise. Although you might want to get FFT on PSP due to translation. Original FFT translation was... awful.
final fantasy 11 still seems tempting and i played it woud a friends house and the gameis still alive.

Do you have a job? School? Girlfriend? Family? Kids? Friends? etc?
If you do, don't play FFXI.
If you are rich, alone, and unemployed with all the time in the world, then play FFXI.
I then said FFX. because it's arguably the most recent main Final Fantasy game that was actually great. hazelnutman
FF XII kicked X ass, and IF you do play X atlest stay away from X-2
TriangleHardis the game that bad that you cant play once in a while as i do go to school and have girlfriend.
foodme123
It's quick way to flunk out of school and lose your girlfriend.
FFXI requires some serious dedication.
Although I've heard it became more solo friendly. Well I haven't played for long time so I don't know how that changed. When I was playing, finding a party as Dark Knight often took hours and hours. After hours of search or making a party, it will take more hours just to grind.
Economy is messed up so farming is major pain. Any valuable items is heavily camped so you are facing another 20~30 others who are trying to farm for a monster that appears once a day, and even if you get the monster you get low chance of actually getting the item.
If you choose to do slow method of farming low price items, you will notice that inflation rate is faster than the rate your are making money.
Well it's been long time since I last played FFXI, and I heard things changed. So I'm probably not the best person to talk about it, but when I did play it required me to have some serious dedication. It was fun, but it wasn't worth it. I'm sure it's REALLY not worth it now considering everyone probably has high quality items and trying to party with them will cause some problems. Considering FFXIV is coming out soon, I'd say it's not worth it to play FFXI now, when you already missed out so much.
As hazelnutman posted, the Final Fantasy universe is most independant of one game to another. Exeptions are being made in the past few years. But really. You can jump into any FF game and not feel like you are missing out on anything that will shatter the plot. Square knows how to do story. FF games dont get their following years after their release because of the graphics. It's the story and game play.
As for the MMORPG FFXI. IT WILL STEAL YOUR SOUL!*
*played for a number of years.

 what a funny response :DFinal Fantasy is very easy to jump into. As others said, start with earlier FF games and then play FFX. I've played every FF game but II, V, VI, and XI and loved them all (yes including X-2). Another one I'd suggest is VIII in addition to VII and X. Those are the best 3 in my opinion. Here's a quick run down of all the games and platforms:
I may have missed some iterations but for the most part this is all the platforms that the games came out on so go for whichever games you have access to.
I'm a seasoned and diehard fan of the FF franchise and I'd recommend it to ANYONE looking for a solid RPG.I'd recommend starting off from the beginning, but as aforementioned doing so could be an issue because earlier titles are outdated. There are some solid handheld ports of I-VI and III and IV got sublime DS remakes. I'd recommend starting on X simply because it's not as outdated, and because it's a great game. Each game is independant from one another although there are a couple of true sequels among them.
Dirge of Cerberus (PS2) isn't so much a sequel as it is a spin-off although there are little or no RPG elements and the game mechanics are shoddy. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VI (PSP) is more of a prequel/sequel to Final Fantasy VII (PS1), and of course Advent Children is a film but is the continuation of VII 2 years later. Oh and Before Crisis is an Anime based on the events before Crisis Core.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (GBA) is TECHNICALLY the prequel to Final Fantasy XII (PS2), but most people don't account for that, and A2 (GBA) and Revanant Wings (DS) are sequels.
Don't bother playing FFXI (PS2, PC, 360) because it's a tedious game, and requires A LOT of time an patience.
There's a sequel for FF IV (SNES, PS1, DS) called The After Years, but I don't know much about it. I'm not even certain what system it's been announced for. The last I had heard it's supposed to be a mobile game.
That's about all I can do in terms of recommendations. It depends on you as to where to start.
Oh and Before Crisis is an Anime based on the events before Crisis Core.

isent the anime named "last order"? and isnet it the zack story, the short FF7 one and not the long crisis core one
think before crisis is the mobile game and that one is indeed before crisis core

X-2 was cool for keeping RPG gamers busy until 12 came out but the story to that game was loose. Yeah sure it was funny and it did what FF did best but I wouldn't be my top choice.
and whats all this talk about outdated this and outdated that i could go back to the beginning and have no problem playing I-VI again

You're a fan, and I imagine you've played the majority of if not all of the games, right? Well to newcomers (especially young gamers) the older games would seem outdated in terms of graphics, controls, gameplay, etc. Yes they are extremely outdated because look at the strides that the industry has taken just in the last couple of years.
I highly suggest Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy Tactics. Best two Final Fantasy games ever imo.
