There's more than just the PS3 hack on that site. Isn't that some kind of invasion of privacy?

That is the stupidest almost cartoonishly villainous thing I have ever seen a real life company do.

What are they going to do with the names, track down every address and sue them? :?

I'm assuming that sony is trying to track the ip addresses of people who visit this site so they can ban people from psn who use these addresses, there is a constant battle between sony and those who are known as "pirates".

Personally i don't like the idea of a company tracking my ip address and moniter what i'm surfing online, google and microsoft already do that.

Actually i tot this stuff was going to be done to prove something to the court or so,i think people should research the issue before concluding.

Also to be frank, nothing GeoHotz do or however he suffers would make me sympathize or anything, things iv personaly seen with my two eyes change after his hack would never make me respect him ever

I didn't even know he had a website. I did go to some skaterfu hacker guy's blog though, but it was only from a link from a story and it didn't show you how to hack the PS3. It seems like it would make more sense for Sony to ban the people who hace actually hacked their PS3s rather than anyone who went to his site, half of which probably haven't even hacked their PS3s, many may have been linked there for a story or went there out of curiousity.

Yea, I am mad, thanks for asking, but that's not the point. Sony is acting ridiculous with this whole case. I used to support Sony but now I just enjoy watching them screw things up more and more every day. And this matter in particular is exactly the kind of thing that is ruining their reputation.

agreed. O wait a minute, we should let everyone use homebrew! that way no online game will ever play the same! with ever changing gameplay due to hacking and the like! and who knows this homebrew thing might be the turning point in making sony require $ to play online.

GeoHot's website is now fully under scrutiny by sony.. they have access to a database of users and visitors to his site.. they now know who you are. and will be chasing you down independently starting in cali and working their way out.

Sony is just using the IP's to find where most of the downloads were from in order to force the court case to be in California, rather then Georges home town...Nice try at the scare tactics though....

Its very easy. If you havent done anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about. Im pretty sure only those who use this so called "homebrew" are against this. It is a bit controversial, yes, but on the other hand - they have to fight the scum with similar methods. "Pirates" dont play fair play so why should Sony care? "Pirates" are the ones who started playing dirty so what.

Not all hack users are pirates. The hacks allow cheats on games. For instance you could get full gil, CP, etc on FF13. Same idea as a Game Genie. I am for Geohot and against Sony on this case and my PS3 is updated to 3.56(which means no hacks available) and I have a huge collection of games etc.

Sony's not going to go after anyone on that list (legally); that would be silly. I'm assuming Sony's primary goal is to use the list as evidence to support the argument that geohotz's actions and his website caused some kind of (most likely direct) damage.

They're using the info to try to prove that courts in California would be the proper place to hold the trial instead of Geos hometown of New Jersey.

I would be for homebrew if it was for creating new apps not designed to pirate games, to cheat or to do anything similar. But I honestly believe that 99% of people who run CFW do so for those things Ive just mentioned. There might be exceptions though. PC is much more suitable for homebrew anyway.

Is that so... Well, I haven't been following the case so my knowledge of it is severely limited (hopefully you're not steering me in the wrong direction :P).

At least I was in the ball park that Sony's using the list for a greater purpose than nailing a bunch of website visitors.

This. Sony aren't individually tracking down anyone who visited Geohotz' site, that would be STUPID. They would end up suing every Playstation focussed journalist in the world. They are trying to use it to back the location for their lawsuit. Maybe as a general idea of how many people are aware of the hack.

No, they won't. Sony isn't stupid they aren't going to ban everyone who visited that site, that would mean banning journalists and innocent people. Admittedly though, there probably is a part of the site that would allow them to view everyone who had downloaded from the site before. Theoretically they COULD ban all those people.

a lot of people use dynamic IP's and even static ip's can be changed by request. Sure they can sue your isp for your details, but they wont ban the IP

Not everyone who went to those sites or watched videos used those hacks. What will they do to those people?

But regardless, losing your right to privacy is not justifiable in any means. It's disgusting and it is a breach of a basic human right. Always. It's never worked in the court room for larger crimes and it shouldn't set a precedent now. Figured people would be more defensive about this, with what The Patriot Act and all.
