[QUOTE="KurupSoldr"]if the system is going to last the 10 years they say it will yes it was good they put it in now, esepcially for games coming out in the next 2 years like MGS4 especially.dangerd0g
Wow 10 years i was only thinking five
Sony claims 10 year consoles. Let's look at their track record. PS1 sold for 11 years. PS2 is on about 8, and still selling very strong. So yeah, even though they overlap generations, it looks like Sony's consoles do have around a 10 year life-span.
As for the comment earlier about load times, that's why many PS3 games install part of the game to the hard disk, which is an option since the hard disk is a standard feature on every model of the PS3. If you get a smaller HDD and worry about running out, you can delete the install data on games you aren't playing and reinstall it if you decide to play it again. Or, you can upgrade to a larger hard drive. Any 2.5 sata drive will work, so you don't have to worry about buying a specific (overpriced) proprietary drive.
End result is plenty of room for uncompressed textures, uncompressed audio, multiple language tracks (yes some of us would prefer to play our games in something other than English, without having to import) and potentially bigger games. The space is there, for whatever the devs want to use it for.
