This would be a fun list for me to do since I love open world games. I'd definitely have many of the games you mentioned. True Crime is an interesting addition. Streets of L.A. and New York were among my first open world (and M-rated) games I played alongside San Andreas, which was my favorite game for a long time.

Only games that I have played (all on PC):

1. Far Cry 4

2. Far Cry 3

3. The Witcher 3

4. GTA V

5. Flight Simulator X

6. Watch Dogs

7. Far Cry 2

8. STALKER: Call of Pripyat

9. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

That's it.

I'm happy playing just the top 5 games. I haven't bought a new game this year.

I loved True Crime back in the day, especially New York and it's changing environs depending on how bad an area got, or something along those lines, I can't remember fully lol But it just felt so raw and alive. Probably pales in comparison to modern titles technological but can't beat playing it back then.

Good list Jim, I would have added ME2 too but I didn't feel it was truly open world. There was a central hub (the normandy among a couple others) and then other planets to visit which really felt like open levels, rather than fully open worlds.

I'm too lazy to actually give a top 20 list so I'll give a top 3

Oblivion

Fallout 3

GTA V

Don't know if these should go in the top 20 or not, but they deserve honorable mentions.

Sleeping Dogs, Mad Max, Saints Row series.
