People...

... when reading a review, let's all keep in mind that we are reading the words of a fellow gamer, not some statesman or politician who claims to be above some sort of moral line we can all ascribe to be. These are human beings who have feelings and attitudes, and though they try to put a lot aside and give as even-handed a treatment to any given title they will make mistakes and they WILL allow their feelings. It's one of the things we as readers almost DEPEND on... if we can't count on their passion for the hobby, then we can't judge their reviews.

We don't all enjoy the same author (for those of us who still buy a book on occasion), and yet we expect reviewers to be more universal... Some reviewers will be more in-line with your tastes than others, so you find ones you agree with the majority of the time and you find out what THEIR opinions are (if possible) and then stick with them. I used to know the EGM reviewers by name and could watch for the ones who had similar views on games and catch their perspective (there were generally three reviews to a title so you got three different perspectives).

Don't get upset if a game gets a "bad" score when you liked it or loved it. That reviewer may not hold the same view as you, that's all. But you wouldn't think a poster on this forum's opinions were God-Given... why would you think that of Tom McShea? The only difference between Tom and any of you other goobers is, he works for the site.

Outside of that little detail, he's a twig just like us.

I have posted some stuff lately which has upset the thread to the point where I have run for my digital life... for instance, I think "BioShock" is lame. I think it stinks on ice, in fact, and I think that people are just monjin' on it's sausage because they're worried that if they don't show aproval someone will question their sexual proclivity.

Do I deserve to be vilified or my sanity questioned?

(Don't be a ****, it was a retorical question)

No. It's only my one single solitary opinion. It means nothing to people who don't know or respect my other views. The same should be done with any reviewer or website/ magazine/ community member. I don't think I have ever read one review for a NASCAR title over the last fifteen years by a writer who understands the sport let-alone one who actually LIKES it... and yet every year I had to read the same dumb "Drive-Fast-Turn-Left" horse apples out of some college-aged toolshed who thought he came up with redneck witicisms and left-turn gags for the first time ever on planet Earth and just had to share them, all the while avoiding talking about the GAME whatsoever. It used to really get my blood boiling. ANd I ended up just going out and buying the game because, I thought, I'm just gonna make up my OWN mind about it, and perhaps write a review of it myself so that others like me will have something from a FAN perspective...

Those writers injected their attitudes, so I injected my OWN.

Now, I don't know if those reviews and posts over the years ever made any difference to other gamers, but I know it made a difference in ME as a consumer and as a gamer... and a writer for that matter. I stopped reading every review with my own judgement out-front, and started just trying to read what the writer was meaning to convey.

It may be that the environments are repetitive in the Tformer game. That, to a more casual fan, might be a negative. There may be issues with gameplay, try to see it OUTSIDE the Eye of the Fan for a second... the writer may have a simple point which was ehter over-emphasized by them or amplified by you, the reader. And hey, maybe the writer just doesn't "get it". So write your own review and post an apposing viewpoint.

That's the beauty of free speech. Long may it reign. Spelling errors and fact-checking aside.

8)

The one thing I think IS pretty unforgivable is the getting the name wrong... there should be some editor nads getting slammed in a desk drawer for that. But otherwise, it's all just perspective.

Yeah we all have different taste and we don't get mad at each other for not liking some games. I know you also disliked Infamous, understandable and I loved Prince of Persia 08 which most people didn't care for. Thats why thre are so many review sites out there so that we don't blindly follow one person's opinion but take in many as a whole to gauge how much enjoyment we may get out of the game.

Oh I know I was just pulling your leg, I really meant nothing by it. Seriously, I apologize if I did anything to start any of that.Flame_Blade88

You didn't start anything, buddy!

I was merely stating the fact that one cannot judge an entire reviews site by the personal opinion of a single reviewer.

No harm done. ;)

Metacritic this game is a 77 right now.

Its not like gamespot is the only website that hasnt given this game a sparkling review. Honestly Ive played it a bit and it seems like a good game but people are overrating it just because their is finally a transformers game that isnt awful.

Yeah, that's why I always say to people if you REALLY have to go by reviews, don't just go for Gamespot or IGN or whatever. Use MetaCritic or Gamerankings.

Preposterous score. Apparently according to Gamespot this game is as fun as LOST-the game. Both 6.5. LOLOLOLOL!!! Kinda sad how far people will go to be controversial.

I'm playing the game right now and it's a killer, maybe not a 9.0 like IGN scored it.. but 8/10 easy !

Rather Disappointed with their review, Ammo generally hasnt been an issue for me, I found several areas that without a quick transform and bolt I was going to get my ass handed to me, and considering the source material cybertron looks rather diverse for a metal planet.. The friendly AI is terrible, but beyond that I would rate this a solid 8-8.5. I really hope this games sells enough that we get a WFC2 where they can fix these problems. This is easily the most fun I've had this year. If it wasnt for the terrible AI I would go as far as to stay this could very well have been my personal goty, the multiplayer is seriously FUN. Alas I guess we'll have to wait and see what else the year brings.

DC5_Maverick
That's a good question. The answer is no, but according to GS' reviews, I guess it is. :| @Chubith I think Matt Tieger, the director, already said that he wants to do a sequel. It's almost guaranteed, especially being published by Activision...

DC5_Maverick

For some people, it is. For the others, it's not.

Personally, I haven't tried Revenge of The Fallen but I absolutely LOVE War for Cybertron. I just think it's too bad the game doesn't have dedicated servers. Out of the maybe 15 games I've played, the host quit about 5 times and I've experienced lag maybe 4 times. But yeah, I think it's a GREAT game.

People seem to have mixed reviews about the game...I guess if you're a Transformers fan you might like it more than if you weren't. Maybe the reviews who gave it low scores just don't care about Transformers? :? Who knows...

The thing is though that it's a solid game, regardless of licensing. It's one of, if not THE best games I've played in a long time. Yes, I'm a fan of the show. BUT, I'm also capable of seeing the game for what it is; it's a really good game.

Well the score actually seems consistent with GameTrailers. The game is based off of a kids cartoon so of course there is going to be a loyal fanbase who wants the best possible score...but in the end, its no uncharted 2 or mgs4.

Although I havn't played the game, so I can't really say if the review is accurate or not. What I can say is from what the review goes over, the game doesn't sound all that great. Users who play the game will probably be fans, so they are starting out biased.

Just remember that reviews arn't there to let you know how fun the game is, just how well it was made.

That's what I've been trying to say though, the game is really, really well made. The mechanics are rock solid, it looks good, sounds good, etc... It's a great game.

Im digging the game so far. For those saying the environment are bland, it is Cybertron. What were you guys expecting? Picket fences and farmlands? Thats like saying Fallout 3's environment is bland becuase it looks all the same; barren wasteland. Controls work great and are slick and simple. Visuals are great. Not graphics king but still nice. AI is good for the most part. Although one time I got rammed off a bridge while jumping it by my a.i teammate while in vehicle mode. Game should have recieved a 7.5 - 8.

If it's about us being fans that's why we're saying that it's a great game, i should've picked up the other previous Transformers titles... but i didn't... coz i think they suck... but this one is a different story. when you're a fan of something, it doesn't mean you'll pick up and praise a gameor anything that comes out with it's name on it... sometimes, the fans are the better critics... coz theyknow more about what's at hand than thosewho have little or no idea at all...

[QUOTE="PoisoN_Facecam0"] does anyone on these forums actually come to GS for anything but the forums anymore? they're easily the slowest site for gaming news out of all the mainstream ones.. You people are the only reason i still come here.. Kotaku reviews are my favorite, no number ,no score.. just the pros and cons..

I'll admit. If it wasn't for the forums I would have been gone long ago to GT or IGN or sumtin.

I spent ten minutes with it at Best Buy this afternoon, I had to wait for a little kid to stop jamming on the controller and a store employee kept quiet watch over me in case I was a kidnapper...

I will say that what I played seemed solid, StarScream's weapons were cool and I liked the recoil when aiming, that added a nice bit of "realism" if you will... and I was genuinely impressed with the graphics and light shading. The AI was alright but I hope the game was just set on 'Easy' for demo purposes (it was a 360, by the way). Transforming was cool, the melee attack was a bit unresponsive but that's a small quibble.

The game looked like it could be tremendous fun. I'm not going to go get it yet, but I could definitely see buying it when the price comes down a bit. The MP has gotta be a gas.

Anyway, just thought I would follow up with all of you because I wasn't a believer right off the bat, but I am now.

Good Game. Solid 7.5 or better in my book.

I certainly can say a 6.5 is a little low, 7-8 range would have been more appropriate.

I gave it an 8.5 because it easily deserves it. The game is really good. There are some quirks here and there, anf the unreal loading textures deal, but over all it is good. The multiplayer is the best 3rd person multi I've played since Gears 1. People need to buy this, the score is not reflective of the quality of this game.

Kinda makes you think they just threw a generic movie score on it instead of playing it.
