First off I'd like to start off by saying Trophies was one of the coolest updates for my PS3 thus far. It got me excited about replaying games as well as collecting.

But is it just me or are Trophies going to start getting ridiculous in the future? I know right now they are cool but what's going to happen in the future when someone has 453 Trophies or 842? The number seems incredibly high and imagine if they had trophy support in HOME what it'd look like.

So far only 3 games support Trophies with a total of about 70-80 to collect. Now with all the games coming out this fall/winter that number is going to rocket.

I'm no hating on the Trophy system I just find it strange once we start getting into the high hundreds low thousands.

Not sure I understand the concern. What's the problem with having a lot of trophies?

The thought of having 872 Trophies is a little odd is all. Also they were talking about being able to display trophies inside of HOME so how would that turn out =/

It doesn't seem odd to me. It's bound to happen over time when you collect and play a bunch of games.

I would think they could have a "master" trophy on display for the game."Viewing" the trophy would allow for more detail as to the actual trophies you have for that title.

It does seem like it could get weirder. Also my beef with trophies is that the ones for Uncharted are really easy at least compared to say SSHD and Eden. But then again Uncharted you would need to buy, but still. Kill five enemies with a brutal combo compared to, get 100,000 pollen in a garden for Eden. And then you have acheive some insane stuff for Warhawk that could take like 800 hours to get.

SSHD = pretty good trophies except for the co-op fluke.

Eden = daunting, will take a lot of work.

Uncharted = probably most balanced

Warhawk = OMG, heck no.

Not that I hate throphies but for me it's a useless thing. As far as I know, you get nothing in return.

Does it unlock something in the game? If yes, I might try to get some. Hehe. If no, it's a waste of time getting trophies.

Well, Uncharted is the right game for you then.

I think it is the levelling up that will become the focus in the future, and the trophies are more like experience points.

My understanding is that developers have a certain number of trophies they can use in their games and the higher the value, the fewer trophies they can have in total. So that is why PIxelJunk has a fair number of trophies, mostly all bronze, despite having some seemingly impossible goals. If they would have had a gold trophy for some of them, then they would have had to reduce the total number of trophies in total the game had.

At least that is what I heard. I can't verify if that is 100% true or not.

That's a good point. At numbers that high, having something like 872 trophies loses any point of reference. And it doesn't sound like it would mean very much.

If you had to bust your ass to get one trophy they'd feel a lot more valuable.

Huge amounts of Trophies is what i have been thinking about lately. Currently it is possible to get 109 Trophies over the 4 games which have trophy support (Uncharted, SSHD, Eden, Buzz!).

Now i think the big thing to remember is that of the 109 Trophies you can only get 2 Platnuim Trophies... So i believe Platnuim and "Levels" will be the big things for PS3 games.

Ohh and i wonder how many Trophies PS3's current profile image supports... since the Warhawk patch adding Trophies is due out 27th August will raise the total amount of Trophies avalible to 157? (Assuming Warhawk has 48 Trophies). And with the Burnout patch due out soon expect that number to pass 200 in no time.

I have high doubts that developers will start putting that many Trophies into their games. Here's the thing about Trophies, for those people who are right now in an odd doubting state of these: Trophies are pretty much like Achievement Points on the Xbox 360; they have no real value except to show you and others how much you've achieved or completed in a game. It's more of a "Status" symbol than anything.

None the less, as I said before, developers have no reason to put that many Trophies into their games. Remember, when you beat them all, you get the Platinum Trophy, so it's not like developers can release NEW Trophies in later updates. I think the whole Trophy system is unique. While it doesn't excite me too much, at least it's something other than just my PSN name that I can show off to people, you know?

Trophies are a sign of noteable accomplishment. The more you have the more you've accomplished. Having more doesn't devalue their meaning.

I think they will "upgrade" it that way in the future. But instead of a master trophy, they will probably break it down by game...similar to how you view your trophies in the game section of the XMB.

I think too that people are forgetting that 360 fans have gamer scores in the tens or hundreds of thousands. This isn't really that different. Insted of thousands of points, you will have thousands of trophies.

Yeah I know that. But I'm not hating on the color trophy just that for a bronze trophy some of those things are annoying. instead of getting 100,000 pollen why not 50,000 or instead of four of those bronze trophies make one of those challenges a silver trophy?

Shrug. It just makes the value of them blurry to me. Your sig says you have 36 trophies, so they aren't looking very trophy-like. Winning a tournament or something, that would seem more fitting for a "trophy." Not to disregard your accomplishments or anything, I just think they would feel more, like, desirable that way.

Using the terms of your example, trophies are awarded for accomplishing status in competition. That is one way in which they've been implemented in real life. Generally it's the top 3 of any given competitve event. There are real life events in which placement or trophy reward is based on performance and number of participants, meaning 3+ competitors are awarded with trophies. All of these however are based on competition which is not the case of the single player games we're talking about. The trophies awarded are more akin to the system used by groups such as the scouts and the military, more focused on personal performance and used to tally one's own growth.

haha dude you think that EVERY trophy you earn is gonna get stacked in your Home space? dude no that's not how it's going to work, every game will have a giant statue standing (a Helghast for example) , you walk up to it and press X i presume and it would bring the list of all the trophies you earned, so even if you earn a billion trophy it will be very organized.

You do understand that that was a very early concept footage of that, correct? Sony has been throwing around talk that that actually won't be how things work. No one really knows at this time how the Trophies are going to work within PlayStation Home at this time. None the less, how they're displayed doesn't really matter to me right now. Anyways, until Home is even released, it all has to do with the PSN Profile on how it's displayed.

Although I think trophy is useless (anything of this nature is artificial and useless), I can tell you that having lots of trophie is just the same as having very little trophy. It won't confuse anyone. Look at your avatar on gamespot, you can see that you posted about 300 some posts, and at level 20. Someone else posted 7000 posts, and at level 30. It's super easier and clear to tell the difference and won't confuse anyone.

But still, does it really matter that you are at level 20 with 300 posts and someone else at level 30 with 7000 posts? Not a thing!

Not everyone likes trophies. There was a topic "Do trophies matter to you?" (not exact) and majority said no. For me, getting trophies is a waste of time.

You're going to end up getting trophies just from regular gameplay. If you purposely go after trophies that require more intense time investment when you personally don't enjoy it then of course it would be a waste of time...for you. Games in general are widely perceived as a waste of time, mostly by those who don't appreciate what we as indivuals get from playing them.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having trophies since they give the gamer a sense of accomplishment. It also makes you go that extra mile just to get that emblem when playing the game. I don't think there's anything wrong with having trophy support.

That's the beauty of trophies !! There are gold ones, silver , bronze and the dreaded platinum . With achievements there's just points . More games equals more points . More trophies doesn't mean a higher level !! There 's skill involved in getting trophies . Not in getting achievements .

Uncharted = probably most balanced

Warhawk = OMG, heck no.

I agree with you. The stardust trophies were hard but I still got them. Some of the Eden trophies are really hard. The Uncharted trophies are easy.

Most of the warhawk trophies are easy but some of them require a lot of time to get. It pisses me off because to get the platinum I will have to be a general. Becoming a general takes hundreds of hours.

Wait till you nhear this : Bioshock involves two gold trophies unlocked on the new insane difficulty exclusive for PS3 . The first for normal "insane difficulty" and the other for the extreme insane difficulty without respawn tanks !!! That's hard !!! Like REAL HARD !! Every bullet counts gets a new meaning, according to IGN .

i honestly haven't been keeping up with Home news at all , every time a new news come out it's either Sony slipped and fell off a building and gave a release date and some small information on how the game space will work or Sony is pushing the release date to 2030 so excuse me for being misinformed.

Uncharted = probably most balanced

Warhawk = OMG, heck no.

I still think the General trophy for warhawk will take longer. That sounds hard but It won't take 1000+ hours to get.

If you have 847 trophies or whatever and home allows displaying them. Well then you buy yourself a bigger apartment with a whole room devoted to trophies all of all masses.

I rarely beat a game again once I beat the story unless I really really really like the game.
