Trophies "dumb down" the gaming industry to the fans. You don't gain anything, not even an in game item. Waste of time.

K1LLR3175

Exactly. They don't add replay value, they bring more bad then good, thanks to trophies bad games with easy trophies sometimes sell more or get more spotlight than good games with no trophies at all.

so? Do you own shares in some game company to worry about losses or the marketing direction of games? Trophies Add a new objective , a dimension in the reward system in games, whereby you have a visual illustration of your achievements.

[QUOTE="Nephilim83"][QUOTE="Duckman5"]I would rather have a point system like the 360.edthetinker

Why? All it is is a way for you to show off the size of your virtual wang-a-lang. Its rather sad, really. I could care less for either of them. To this day the only trophies or achievements I've unlocked were purely on accident. But if we must have them I think they should be left the way they are.

Besides being innacurate and selfish ("Icould care less for either of them") your argument is sexist. My fiance does not have a "virtual wang-a-lang," and she likes her trophies. I enjoy talking to you Mr. Nephilim83, but your scope in approaching this question is far to narrow.

In response to the TC... I like both systems, but there is something about seeing a platinum (maybe it's societies obsession with precious metals) that revs me up more than seeing 1000 points.

Lol. I offer your wife my sincerest apologies. ;) I was really referring to the MS gamerscore. They try to make that silly number bigger and bigger just to look like the better gamer, but really it could just be that they play a lot of games and got a lot of 10 point achievements. I think the trophies are a better approach, because it breaks it down for you and shows how many you got of each. A person could have 500 trophies and they're all bronze while someone else has 100 trophies and has a butt-load of golds and platinums. To me that's a better way of showing off your gaming prowess. Not trying to be narrow-headed here, but like I said: I could really care less for either of them. That's just me, though.

I"ve never been interested in trophies or achivments but if they but them in points you'll see the 360 fanboys saying that they copied that from the xbox just see

It's got nothing to do with owning "shares". Where does that even come from?

Devs can get lazy and create crap. "But as long as there's trophies!", it's ok? I would rather have good games to play with no lazy devs resorting to poor band aid solutions.

gaming itself is pointless.. people do because they enjoy it.. trophies for a bunch of people add more fun.. there also has always been some sort of "trophy" in a game.. so by your rational "high scores" dumbed down the gaming industry as well, hmm and it was that competitive aspect that really made the industry become popular..

If that's the case. Relatively, every form of entertainment is a waste of time.

How is it adding more fun? People get frustrated and treat it like a job. Like it's something they have to do or they'll die. What exactly is "competitive" about this? You only "compete" when you play against each other. It's almost as if "how did gaming ever get by prior to this??"

People should be playing the game, for the game. To enjoy the game. It's an art. But people want someone to dangle shiny keys beside this "art" so they can keep their attention spans. "You did good! You should be proud of yourself! Here's a sticker!" and they jump and drool with glee. Because they've actually accomplished in life.

Nothing says "I'm a man!" like getting a Platinum trophy.

I rest my case.

I disagree with everyone saying it adds no replay value. It does, and I love it. It puts a competitive edge on games that otherwise wouldn't have one. I seem to be in constant competition with my room mate over trophies, who can platnium a game first, beat something on Crushing difficulty, etc. It may not add more to games with a strong multiplayer component, but for single player games that I would normally beat once and then shelve, it adds a lot.SantaTerb

it has to do with ur deep concern about it.. WELL, then dont buy from THOSE DEVS, thats why u can read about the game, reviews, watch gameplay, etc, what r u worrying about. There were always crappy games and its the people who want to pay for it business if they buy it. Trophies didnt set a trend which is detrimental to the quality of games man, Look at Uncharted 2 .

I liek how it is now. Rather than it just adding up ( which it does, because you have a total trophy count. )

I like how it adds up to a level.

Any One Else Think That The Trophies Should Have Some Type Of Point System, Or Do You Like It The Way It Is, Speak On It

phoenix1122
I see no real purpose in Trophies or Achievements when getting them really amounts to nothing but bragging rights... where nobody even cares. I thought when they first talked about Achievements on 360 (and now Trophies on PS3) that there would be some sort of 'Credits' given to the player where they could then use them to say get a Game from PSN. Instead of paying with money... you used the credits you earned from the Trophies you got. Sorry if someone else said this already. I only had time to read the first post.

thank god people agree with this, allthough i am addicted to trophies, it does take away from playing great games! case and point being metal gear solid 4 and heavonly sword!

trophies can also have there slight advantages to them as well, it can bring a a bit of replay value as it is something to look forward to.

besides replay it can also seperate the hardcore gamers from the ones who just want to make themselves look good cause they just got a bunch or just dont care.

one final thing, they give people a sence of acomplishment, despide how much its not worth.

final conclusion, its both good and bad, but still pointless none the less and its simply used for marketing to scam trophy whores lol

in a world or propaganda and marketing scams, its ur decision in the end , which direction you go . All i know is there will always be good games and bad games, and who doesnt want to buy metal gear 4 because it dont have trophies, its their business. The point is, nothing will change, and trophies will stay for now. Now u get a visual representation of completing a game on its hardest difficulty. The name of the topic is stupid though, because trophies still add up.

I like trophies because they give you goals to complete, but I really do not think that they really can tell you how good a gamer really is. Even with the argument of looking only at golds or platinums, you can not tell because there some games like Hannah Montana, Alone in the Dark, etc that have extremely easy gold and platinum trophies. In fact, the upcoming Terminator game only has gold trophies (no bronze or silver)that are mostly earned by just playing through the game. There is a sight for the XBOX called TrueAchievements.com that actually breaks down the trophies by their actual difficulty and assigns a weighted number that can really tell you how good of a gamer you are. I imagine that there will be a PS3 site like that in the future so that people who play games with difficult bronze trophies will be ranked higher than those with a bunch of simple platinums.

I like both the trophies and achievement system, but only care about trophies as I don't have a 360. It's a good thing in most respects as it add replayability but it also brings out the sneering teenager in some of us, "oh you only have 1 platinum?"

Trophies seem more skill based but both systems are cool. My only fear is that trophies, somewhere down the line, take FOREVER to move a percent.

I think the trophies should have some sort of pt system that you use the points you get to purchase extra costumes and add ons and stuff for games that support trophies. For example, If you unlock 1 gold you unlock a bonus level or something.

some people get frustrated getting them.. are you really going to generalize something as silly as that.. bad games were made and played long before trophies came out,.. so because you don't enjoy getting them or the people on your list complain how hard or tedious they are, they are a terrible idea that is bringing down the gaming industry.. you're not buying the games for these people.. you're not playing the games for these people.. and if there were no trophies the same games would be out and they wouldn't be any different.. for the love of god, post your simple minded opinions somewhere else..

4. If you don't like what devs are doing think about the games YOU purchase.

5. Gaming cannot be hardcore..... it can be time intensive, but the idea of a "hardcore" gamer is absurd.

6. "trophy whore" also doesn't make sense, I don't feel like getting moderated but I'm fairly certain if you think about it you will figure out why on your own.

I like trophies the way they are . Only there should be unlockables like a free download or a $5 cheque or something for an unlocked platinum . Of course there's always the dilemma that a platinum isn't a platinum . Compare Hanna Montana to Wipeout HD . Those platina aren't the same value ...but hey, in the end, it's all about selling more games...

agreed, and the whore thing was a joke, dont understand why people have to take words like that so literal. anyways it is a marketing scam because developers know that people with no ego outside of there gamer score are just gonna go and buy crap games (even more) because of the tropies. on top of that, you should mabee think about reading up on the definition of hardcore, or at least wiki what a hardcore gamer is by definition is becuase "hardcore gamer" is a phrase thats been used for quite sometime now bub.

on top of all of this you kinda sound like your a "trophy whore" the way you defend and disagree with everything i say lol.

as for the score thing, thats not the only reason why people play pacman, mario, space invaders, froger or megaman. lets gow with there actually fun games lol, give it a rest.

besides if you read my quote correctly, i defended both sides bro. deuces
