One of my platinums are Terminator, but hey I found it for $10. Also one of my platinums is Demon's Souls, so I think it kind of evens out:P

Personally, I only play the games I like and are interested in playing. But if someone is willing to subject themselves to garbage intentionally, then I think they deserve those trophies.

That all depends on what the other platinum is for, if it's Hannah Montana then you lose all respect.

Truthfully, if beeing able to play the worst crap until the bitter end is not worth a praise, then what is?

See now that I just don't understand, the entire point of the trophy system is so other people can view them and compare it with their own..you're not going to get any respect from ANYONE by playing a game like Hannah Montana just because it's an easy platinum.

I understand completely but its also not the only plat i got. My next plat after that was MWf2. Hanna Montana was like saying been there done that and got the t-shirt(plat). Makes my man-hood of trophies grow which is nice to see the high numbers and compare to other people who enjoy the massive trophy list.

Every single "trophy whore" to say will have that which is known as Hanna because it is infact an easy plat which is what you want. People that laugh at me it for having it really was just being funny i could care less :) in the end my trophy list is awesome and i like knowning i completed a game to the fulliest.

No, easy platinums are not what most people want because it makes the entire system pointless. You may feel happy knowing that your trophy level has increased but like I said, the entire point of the system is to be able to show off and compare with others..having a platinum in a title like Hannah Montana isn't something you should be proud of..it's no different than cheating your way to get it. Try getting the Demon Souls platinum, then you'll have something worthy of showing off to the world.

Demon souls is on the way. Another playthrough and i got it. This boils down to different strokes for different folks. When you say "most people want" i was referring to the people that aim for trophies as the main purpose. Obviously someone with no care in the world for a trophy will think Hanna Montana is useless. I saw it as a small plat mine. I love a good game. I was a big fan of many games that did not have trophies. MGS4, R&C Tools of Destruction, Lego Batman, Spider-man Web of Shadows, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Soul-Calibur 4, Fall of Man, ect, ect. I don't play games just to get a trophy but i don't mind playing a bad game to get at least something out of it. Also ive only had my PS3 since thanksgiving of 09 so i missed the days of no trophies, but i still played t hose that didn't have them. Hanna Montana was bad indeed, but it wasn't a bad plat to get.

Platinum trophies should be reserved for games that deserve them. My fiance and I are about to achieve Platinum on "UP". While it's not too bad of a game, it definitely doesn't deserve this honor. I had to work to get platinum on both "God of War" games. I'm working harder right now to try and get Platinum for "Batman: Arkham Asylum." I haven't put any effort at all into "UP" and I'm almost there.

Lol well that's your loss, playing bad games because of an e-reward isn't something people consider fun.

If you're plat'ing games like Hannah Montana and you don't actually like her as a performer you're trophy collecting has gone beyond "hunting".

I won't go out of my way to play bad games but if one sneaks on my system I'm compelled to see it through to the end. To be honest though I really haven't played many games I would consider bad this gen. I rented TS because I enjoyed the movie and wanted a break from the long term commitment games I had waiting to be played. Almost like a palate cleansing before moving on to the next course. I tend to use PSN titles for that too. My most notable plats are probably KZ2 and R2 but I also have SSHD and Novastrike at 100%. Who 100%'s Novastrike? Seriously.

People can and should do whatever they want in regards to what games they want to Platinum. I personally would never Platinum Hannah Motana or Up just because even playing those games would bore the hell out of me. On the other hand people who look down on people for what they Platinum are just as bad as the trophy whores who look down on people with less or no Platinum trophies at all IMO.

Hmm. I guess I have been looking at trophies all wrong. I didn't realize they were just there to impress other people. I thought they were there to make games more fun for the person playing the games. I've always liked trying to get trophies/achievements in games even during the PS2 era when no one could see what I was doing (I spent untold hours trying to unlock all the obscure achievements in the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games.) Just yesterday I was S ranking all the missions in a DS game -- no one but me will know that I was successful, I was just doing it for the challenge.

I've only plat'd 5 games (Fallout 3, Demon's Souls, RE5, UC, UC2). I did it because I really liked all those games and I thought it made them even more fun and challenging to try to get 100%. Being able to brag about the plats to people on my friend's list is just a bonus. And the bragging is all just for fun anyway. I would have done it even without the bragging rights.

That being said, I have like 80% of the trophies from Eat Lead: the Return of Mat Hazzard. Does that make me lame? I'll add on that I did try to plat Eat Lead and I will probably eventually succeed. Why? Because I liked Eat Lead – I thought it was great campy fun and it has the most hiliarious trophies ever. (the first trophy I got in that game was for pressing the pause button—you gotta love it). I find it amazing that there are people out there who will look at my trophy list and have some sore of a fit because I decided to enjoy a lame game and got easy trophies from it. Unfair competitve advantage? WTH. What diff does it make if my trophy level is higher than yours? I think some people are taking the trophy system way too seriously.

I only plat single player games I really enjoyed, InFamous, Assasins Creed 2 for example are my plats one is in progress though lol. I never bother trying to plat RPGs or Multiplayer online games, it takes too long to do so.

Yes it is. I try not to do that. Like someone on my list who has platinums for every little kid game..I would rather play something I will enjoy and not be ashamed of. I have 18 platinums and none of them are lame games. Although I do want cloudy with a chance of meatballs because the movie was alright.

I have not played Hannah Montana. Even though my niece loves her show if she wanted to play the game then guess what, you would see it under my profile.

hiryu3
If my little cousin would want to play Hannah Montana on my PS3 I would make her an own account to save me from the shame. Also kids usually don't platinum games. There are always some trophies you will miss unless you go for them with trophies in mind. Well, except for Terminator Salvation perhaps which I will definitely play because it's one of the rare splitscreen co-op games out there.

Yes, I totally believe its stupid to Platinum bad games you wouldn't play otherwise. I consider myself a Trophy Hunter but I will not play Hannah Montana, I have dignity. The worst game I have ONE trophy for is X-Blades, I wish I could delete that crap game off my list.

A plat is a plat is a plat...I do shake my head sometimes when I see games like Hannah Montana on their list but I don't make too much of it. I hate that they use little children as an excuse though...its funny how almost everyone with the Hannah Montanna platinum got it by "accident" lol. I say if you were man enough to plat it, be man enough to admit you rented it/bought it solely for the trophy hunting.

I only have platinum on Tekken 6 and 100% on Punisher: No Mercy. They weren't the most difficult trophies to complete but they took 50 hours or more, so I wouldn't have gotten them if I didn't love playing the games.

I don't care much about trophies and I am not a trophy hunter for sure, but I have 2 platinums on 2 great games I like very much: inFamous & God of War 2. I have gotten these 2 platinums only because I like these games. If I didn't, I would never have gotten them.

I don't care about the bragging rights so much as just having something extra to do in the game. So no, I don't think it's lame to get the trophies for bad games. I've only got Platinums for Infamous and Assassin's Creed 2, which I only got because I liked the games enough to keep playing them.

It's not lame to platinum any game as long as you enjoyed it and did it because you wanted to play the game not just to get trophies. Playing a game you don't like just to get trophies is super lame, I have games in my collection I don't like and as such I don't have any of the trophies (*Ahem GTA IV*).

No, it's lame to brag about how many you have when there's stuff like Up, Hannah or Terminator Salvation in the list .

I'm proud of my 8 plats being resident Evil 5, dead space, Uncharted 1 and 2, Burnout Paradise, Fallout 3 , Sacred 2 and WipeoutHD . Especially that last one is my most precious trophy .

If you're going after platinums, then it makes no sense to bash games that have easily attainable platinums. After all, if you're goal is to rank up your trophy count, then... that would be the point, wouldn't it?

I wont go out of my way to get trophies, but if i normally play the game as i do, and im pretty close, i would platnium it.

If people want to play bad/kid games to raise up thier online rank that, at the moment, means absolutley nothing, than all more power to them, i dont condone it, i pity the people that are like that, but its meaningless to complain about it. So just let them do as they do.

Why do you pity people like that? What if some people actually enjoy leveling up their account and getting trophies as much as they like playing a game? Is it so wrong someone could be like that? Meaningless to you, but nothing wrong with intending to get trophies. I don't think they pity you for not doing the same. People target easy games for trophies. Nobody who wants to have 40 plats is going to worry what you think and only do the most extreme ones.

Game quality is subjective. I am sure there are people out there who actually enjoy Harry Potter games because they're fans of the books / movies and like to have trophies for them. Alot of people think gaming in general is a waste of them if you're older then a certain age.

X-men Origins: Wolverine isn't a bad game. It's just an easy 1000/platinum.

I find it kind of disingenuous in a competitive sense. I say quality over quantity. I'd rather have 10 Platinums on games I really like than 30 on games I don't.

You can easily have it both ways, I only have Heavy Rain on the PS3 which was a very easy game to get 100% but I have a lot of games done on the 360. I used to get a lot of rent one get one free coupons for Hollywood. They didn't always have two games I wanted so I played a few that were pretty easy like Terminator Salvation, Eragon, Fight Night Round 3, King Kong I played at a friends house. I wouldn't say it is lame to. Trophies/Achievements can just be used to see what a person has played and what they did in each game, it's not like I'm going to see that people are getting some of the hardest ones out there and then think that they suck as soon as I see that they have 1000 in Avatar. Not all easy games are bad anyway.

I pity them simply because i wouldnt lower myself to play those kind of games just for a personal sense of achievement. The cold hard fact about trophies and leveling up is that nobody cares but yourself.

Playing Video games is meant to be an enjoyment, sure some people find a sense of fun getting as much trophies as they can, but do they enjoy playing the majority of the games while doing so? Most likely not. Sure you have a ton of trophies, and able to show off your nerdings to fellow friends. But is it really worth it? Really?

I see this all the time. People with 20+ Platinums and beyond. In the end, yes it's only for bragging rights but the first thing I do is see WHAT Platinums they have and THESE are the ones that ALWAYS come up:

  • Hannah Montana
  • Terminator Salvation
  • UP
  • Monsters Vs Aliens
  • X-men Origins: Wolverine
  • and more...

I find it kind of disingenuous in a competitive sense. I say quality over quantity. I'd rather have 10 Platinums on games I really like than 30 on games I don't.

So what's your guys' take? Personally the only games I put that much time into are the ones I really like. The worst game I have a Platinum for is Wanted: Weapons of Fate, but I actually enjoyed the demo for the game as well as the Wanted movie before it.

So is it lame to Platinum bad / easy games? And to make this a two-part question: What's the worst game YOU have trophies for?

Ryan_Som
I only buy the best games and i plat them, i currently have plats for: inFAMOUS Assassin's Creed 2 God of War 1 God of War 2 Almost Burnout Paradise (all i need is a PS3 eye) and these are what i think are respectalbe plats. i will only plat good games.

Abecale

Why do you pity people like that? What if some people actually enjoy leveling up their account and getting trophies as much as they like playing a game? Is it so wrong someone could be like that? Meaningless to you, but nothing wrong with intending to get trophies. I don't think they pity you for not doing the same. People target easy games for trophies. Nobody who wants to have 40 plats is going to worry what you think and only do the most extreme ones.

Really?

Trophies are meant for yourself, you pitying people cause you wouldn't lower yourself makes you look bad. Not many games are as bad as to the point you force yourself to play them. Even if Hanna Montana is what it is, its not that bad of a game. For me it was a 4 hour plat which i enjoyed getting. Enjoyed is the key word. So more power to me, keep your pity, try not to lower yourself to my level. You think i care if someone looks at my trophies and sees that? Doesn't make me feel any lesser thats for sure. So i'm gonna play all the good games, which i have, and im going to still play the "bad" ones which is probably better put as "easy" ones.

If "Teletubbuies go to Outer Space" were to take nothing to plat as someone who enjoys collecting trophies id have it already. Nah i probably wouldn't enjoy the game but i sure would enjoy doing tasks to get the trophies.

I got a personal achievement (what else do you play a game for) out of beating Super Mario Bros. I see no difference now just cause it has trophies. Now i can beat Super Mario Bros and get trophies for doing things i normally would not. a devs scheme to increase the replay value and appeal of a game. Terminator Salvation has 11 golds and 1 plat for a reason.

a bad game is just an opinion. of the listed games, i wouldnt consider them all bad, some i even enjoyed. The real question is why do we need to have video game trophies? im just like, what was that annoying message box blocking the action.

I wouldn't buy a game I didn't like just for trophies but I can't knock anybody who likes getting trophies. It's there system, there time and money and they can do what they like. I have the platiunm trophy for X-Men Origins and I thought it was a good game but that's me.

Mainly because it's a great way of comparing with your friends, sure trophies are "meaningless" but so is playing games..we do it because it's fun, right? I will never play a game I dislike just because it has trophies, never! I'm currently working to get the LittleBigPlanet and FarCry 2 platinums but since I actually like those games it's fine. :] You'll never see Hannah Montana or Terminator in my trophy list.

It doesnt make me look bad at all, quite the opposite. And the reason is simple, i wouldnt taint my collection with garbage games like that. Call and judge me all you want, but playing games like ;Hanna Montana' just for virtual trophies? Yeah not for me.

I would care more if they actually meant something, or if you could redeem things out of them, then i would start caring if people are trophy cruising for levels. So feel free to play or 'earn' however you want, but my feelings are unchanged. Obviously i know your gaming skill is above the level of games like that, ones aimed at casual teens or kiddies, call me crazy, but i like to play games that are a little bit more challenging.

I know what your trying to say to me, about the enjoyment of collecting trophies and doing achievements for self satiesfaction, but the thread title is 'Is it lame to Platinum bad games?' We all know what bad games it is reffering too, we all see them every day, i just merely stated my opinion and agreed with it.

This is essentially my point. I'm not trying to downplay anything anybody does really, I'm just saying having Platinums like that just to pad your stats makes it a LOT less impressive when people actually see what you have them for. And that's fine! That's cool if you wanna do that! I just think it's kind of self-defeating in a sense. I mean, here you are, showcasing all these trophies for completing games 100% and your list is peppered with games ANYBODY could knock out within the course of a few hours.

I'm just saying, is it time well spent?

In generations past, before the days of trophies and achievements, no one would be like "Hey, I got the Platinum for Wayne's World on SNES!" People would be like, "You PLAYED that game...for THAT?"

I think the keywords "bad" and "easy" get tied together though because most "bad" games are "easy" to Platinum. Not always the case, but more often than not. And I'm not saying that the various kid's games are "bad." I am saying that, under different circumstances, I doubt a lot of people would've played them.

I understand completely :). If you have a list of extremly hard plats to get it would be ok to get the easy ones just to bump your score. Its kind of like renting a movie you didn't care to see but u watched it anyways.

As far as time well spent i guess u got 2 sides of the coin. I think the time i spent getting the trophies was fun. Me and my wife played Madagascar Karts to enjoy the game but she knew i wanted the trophies as well so she helped me. When it was all over she said she had a great time with me getting those. Which is the case for most the games i plat.

Quality time with the fam = valid reason for a Platinum. Of course, there's also the flipside that you could just be saying, "**** it. If I'm gonna play this ****ty game, I'm at least gonna get something out of it!" :P
