The game had some great platforming, but when it came time to shoot enemies, it just felt "thrown in" and that it wasn't up to snuff with the platforming.

Did anyone else get this same impression?

The gunplay was not tacked on. Thats the main gamepaly element.

But the gunplay is to me not up to par with most other third person shooters

Yeah, for me, it was like "oh, cool scenery and climbing stuff," and then it would switch "oh, I have to do this gunning stuff before more climbing."

The gunplay was tacked on? The gunplay WAS the game it didn't feel tacked on at all, nothing in the game felt tacked on for me.

I really liked the gun fights! I mean it's no Gears of War, but it was pretty cool. What I did't like was the platforming, just because it was so unrealistic how far you can jump, and I think Nate has the strongest hands in video game history besides the guy in Shadow of the Colossus, but that had a grip meter

Nope but I did find the pacing left something to be desired, it was either platforming, puzzle solving or shooting, one great change to the second one is that those elements are now inter-mingled.

Nah, bought the game a week ago, having fun with the game, i understand the game is 2007, graphics are not the best in the industry anymore, and i understand that gameplay ain't "the latest craze"

but it's hell of a game, it deserve it's great reviews.

Maybe you got used to a certain type of gameplay playing like Gears or Modern Warfare...

I still can't discern whether this thread is serious or not. That's probably the most ridiculous claim I've heard about Drake's Fortune.
Wow.

Only the motion controls felt tacked on. Everything else was perfect. They could have made the gun play better, but its just a style of naughty dog.

i only just started playing this (after the plane crash), but i kinda wish they wouldve not included the guns in it. still keep some regular fighting, but have an even bigger focus on the exploration.

Gunplay was really weak. That's one reason why I disliked Uncharted so much.

this is spot on.

Drake's Fortune is my current favorite game since the days of N64, and I'm sure that's just nostalgia keeping N64 and all those clasics before it still high on my list. In other words, UC:DF is the best game ever.

I really enjoyed the gunplay. It wasn't quite as tight as some games, but I certainly wouldn't say it was tacked on. Aiming and shooting definitely worked better at a distance than up close, but that's what the melee combos are for!

I understand what you are saying, but I think "tacked on" is the wrong term considering 2/3 of the game is shooting. I don't think it was tacked on so much as they were creating a new IP and trying to mix action with the exploration elements. They were testing things out and not everything is %100 balanced. Something they have apparantly fixed with 2.

What I didn't like was the couple partsin the game where you walk into a circular area and have to gunfight with like 30 guys who are all arround you. I found these parts very cheap and frustrating.

I actually felt the opposite. I love the shooting elements, especially some of the areas where the guys could flank and surround you. I also enjoyed popping out of cover blind firing and going for the steel fist. I thought the combat was spectacular, making it my favorite PS3 game, barely outranking MGS4. I thought the platforming was tacked on. It's impossible to die and incredibly easy. That one puzzle area before they reveal the monsters was great, but everything else was bland. BTW I also loved the zombies, so there!

I didn't like the gunplay, gunfights weren't lame *cough* Tomb Raider *cough* but they weren't very good, althought I do like U2's.

it certainly wasnt the best 3rd person shooting experience, I feel the problem was more with the games balance. I would have preferred less gunplay and and more platforming, So it felt to me like the long amounts of time you spent shooting only emphasised it's weaknesses.

The melee was annoying as well.

I'm sure u2 will have improved on all aspects!

Gun play tacked on??? The platforming was more tacked on then the gun play.
