I keep hearing the "short, but sweet" moniker in reference to Uncharted. I'm looking to pick up my first PS3 game and I've narrowed it down between Uncharted and Ratchet with a heavy lean towards Uncharted. I just wanted to clarify what I think I've been hearing.

I don't mind a short game; in fact, I'm perfectly fine with one under 10 hrs if the experience is worth it. For instance, the COD4 single-player experience is short, but a fantastic overall cinematic-like experience that I believe makes the game worthwhile. Does Uncharted fit into this kind of description where it manages to transcend its shortness? I'm a big movie buff, so the more "cinematic" a game feels, the more it grabs me. I love the totality afforded by a game/movie with great sound, picture, story, etc (it all plays out well on 120" screen and surround! :)).

If you don't believe that Uncharted fits that mold, would Ratchet be my better choice for a more unique, polished experience or would you still recommend Uncharted?

It should be perfect for you then. It plays out exactly like a movie. I have played it through twice so far and the second time was just as good as the first.

You can't go wrong with either.

Uncharted totally fits the bill. It's definitely a multiple-play-through type of game too. If you're into movies (especially like indiana jones), you should love uncharted. Also, I'm sure Ratchet is amazing but you'll be getting them both eventually anyway, so it really doesn't matter which one you pick! Either way, you'll be getting a pretty "cinematic" experience.

Uncharted is, by far and away, a more cinematic experience. I describe it to friends as "the best Indiana Jones movie since Raiders of the Lost Ark. Only modern."

R&C is great fun, and has cut scenes, but methinks Uncharted is for you, first. Like the other guy said, you'll be getting them both anyway, so...

But they said ratchet and clank is like playing a pixar movie. So its a hard choice. I just got both. But if i had to choose one it would probably uncharted. They both have lots of replay.

Adventure games have always been pretty short. I remember the PSone days when I'd beat titles like "Metal Gear Solid", "Resident Evil", "Parasite Eve" etc in like 5-10 hours, but those were some of the best damn games.

Same applies for the PS3; I keep hearing "Uncharted", "Heavenly Sword" and "Ratchet" are short, but man, those games are fantastic, and they're the type of games you can just pick up and replay, and still get lots of enjoyment out of.

Ok, it seems my impressions were accurate. Thanks for the input, it sounds like exactly what I'm looking for and expecting.

I know I will eventually be picking up Ratchet as well (was always the plan ;)), I was just trying to figure out which 1st since I don't have a ton of time between med school, a life, Pirates of the Burning Sea, my other 2 systems, and all my other hobbies (beginning to see what condensed, exciting experiences are A-Ok for me?). One at a time guys! :)

As a side note: Does anyone know where the "gamertag pic" I've got in my PS3 tag is from? When setting up my PSN account, this picture wasn't an option, but the website you setup the PS3 tags had it under the default Sony tags.

Just wanted to say that I am now (according to the save file) 75% through the game and I absolutely love it. It's probably one of my favorites of the recent releases. I keep getting impressed by the little details*, the story is engaging and it just feels like a fully fleshed out world. Unless the game plummets into misery in the next couple levels (I think I'm at 16/22?) I'm of the impression that GS' score is way below what it should be (and I usually don't comment on scores). So thanks to those who pointed me in this direction.

*An example: As I was leaving a dark room and heading outside into bright light there was a noticeable brightness flare just like you have in real life (realistically too, not like the ones in PGR3). This effect is particularly impressive and noticeable coming from a projector because the screen size enveloping most of your vision. At 1st I thought it may have simply been the projector itself adjusting (many projectors use an auto-iris to adjust for contrast based on the overall brightness of the scene), but then I watched the behind the scenes stuff and heard them talk about it.
