after looking at the ign comparison i have a couple questions.

for ps1 games u should turn on upscaling and smoothing?

if u put a game in regular 480p (ps2) can u turn on smoothing?

if a ps2 game doesnt run in 480p u should turn on both features? but if it does run in 480p u should just turn on smoothing and run it in 480p?

I hope those aren't recommendations. If you turn on 480p then you've just turned off 720p/1080i/1080p. Whichever your tv does. In other words, don't turn on 480p. Leave smothing on and turn on upscaling to full. Turning on widescreen in game is fine if it wasn't on. But leave the 480p option off or you've defeated the purpose of the upscaling.

As far as I know, if the PS2 game you're playing supports 480p progressive scan then the PS3 will automatically turn off upscaling. Otherwise, it will upscale your game to whatever you are outputing at. As far as smoothing goes it should work independantly of upscaling and should always be turned on unless the gameplay/visuals are problematic.

1. Ps1 games should use smoothing and upscaling. It looks less jaggy and more clean from my eyes.

2. Ps2 games with 380p should use smoothing and not upscaling.

3. Ps2 games without 480p should use smoothing and upcscaling.

Whenever IGN goes its blurry its blurry it doesnt matter because i rather have smoother edges on my HDTV than jaggy edges if its at the cost of blurring up the details a bit
