I don't know if there has been an official word on upscaling PS1 and PS2 games in the future but the idea has me a bit worried. I am currently the owner of a PS3 so obviously I have the emotion engine chip inside of it. While having near 100 percent BC was my goal with the PS3, some of my games look a little less than stellar on my TV...I want upscaling badly, especially for the PS1 games.
So how about it? Has there been any comment on whether or not existing PS3's will be able to upscale like their emulator counterparts over in Europe and soon to be ***/NA can? Thanks for the help!
Those of us with a "older" PS3 will still get the software emulation, as far as I know, we already have it. All PS3s (except new ones) have the EE chip as well as a form of software emulation. If I am wrong, and we don't, then it will only be a matter of a firmware update.
In my opinion, and it's only my opinion, software emulation is probably going to replace the emotion engine B/C anyway so that they can keep the platform consistent. I would imagine that as games are brought up under emulation the emulator will run them instead of the emotion engine chipset.
it would be sweet if u could set the emulator to run in hardware or software mode! Sony should just do that for the people with launch ps3's. That would own! I mean the ps3 with the ee can obviously upscale and run in software mode. its the same as the euro one. they can just have the option to run off the ee chip or get emulated through the cell processor

Its scary because I just thought of that a few weeks ago and I was coming here to post it lol. But you beat me;). But anyway it would be really cool if SONY did that all of us Japs and Americans.
