Yes its a fad. I've put in more than 100+ hours into it and now when I go online, I don't find many people. Maybe I should rephrase that a little... when I started, everyone was around the same lvl so finding help was easy and bp were plentiful. Now... those same people have gotten much higher lvl or quit playing, while some new people started and others didn't lvl up due to difficulty or whatever. That being said, the buzz of having the muiltiplayer hasn't so much as died as it has changed for the worse. Some levels you will find an abundance of mp action, others are completley dry. For me, thats the magic DS had, and that magic isn't the same as it once was.
Now aside from the mp, single player experience dies after maybe the 2nd or 3rd playthrough. As you get used to the game, it becomes extreamly repetative. Sure you can start a NG+, but its the same as NG in every way. Most likley you will only find very small differences depending on your world tendancy and its not going to be enough to "wow" you. Yes there are a lot of weapons, but they all do the same thing, they just look different and aside from the extreams, they also feel the same.Magic isn'tthat awesome looking and you will probably only use 2-4 spells to fight with. Despite having the ability to make a character any way you want, all your builds turn out very similar: pure magic, or melee with some magic/miracles. Despite having the ability to re-roll a new character, most of them will turn out very similar. Either pure magic, or melee with some magic/miricales.
Maybe I'm just getting tired of the game so I'm seeing more downsides than good. It is an awesome game, but its a fad. The game won't stand the test of time and the multiplayer experience has evened out, lessening the "magic" the game once offered and it will continue to die out as it already has so far. Its done well, but its like a coke left out in the open it was refreshing till the fizz ran out. Now, its dissapointing and puts its original experience to shame.
