while it did help I was sold on PS3 WAY before I even considered it, I grew up on sony console and I will always love it^^
No, because from my 1st days of gaming I was a loyal Playstation fanboy and also I dont wanna miss out on game sequals that were on PS2.
Well, I had a lot of reasons to get my PS3 as first next gen system. I always prefered the PS2 over the GC/XBox due to the library that appealed more to me. Since I played mostly PS2, I got used to the controller the best. Then there was the hope of great exclusives (Disgaea 3, FF13, ...) and the BluRay drive (I love watching movies and I actually have a lot of BluRays already). The free online is a nice factor, but I would have bought it even if I had to pay to play online ^^
Here's my story
I had Xbox 360 starting in about January 2009 and really liked it, although for a couple months it collected dust cause i had school, and crappy games(lol). Then in the summer i got some games and got into it a bit more
Now, November 2009, Black friday, i got a PS3 slim bundle with Ratchet and Clank A crack in time and Little big planet GOTY, and to be honest, loved them more than ANY 360 game i've ever played.
Fast forward to March 2010. I was playing my ps3 so much, my 360 was collecting dust so i sold my 360 and have a bunch saved up for some very good ps3 games. All i can say is, I LOVE PLAYSTATION. I've been a Playstation lover since PS1, so getting back to the playstation series really got me back into gaming.
Anyway, sorry for the off track. Free online was NOT one of the reasons i got a PS3. To be honest, i didnt even KNOW about free online when i got the PS3.
LONG LIVE PS3!!! The KING OF GAMING!
Back in 2007 when I was deciding between a PS3 and Xbox 360, free online was a huge reason along with upgradable hdd, bluetooth paring capabilities, online browser, wireless rechargable controllers, and blu-ray built in. Free onine is a big deal to me because I used to game mainly on PC and I still don't think it should be charged for. If online on consoles all go to a subscription method, I'll probably go to offline gaming or move back to PC.
Nope...bought it for a bluray player. Besides the few PS3 exclusives that are worth buying every now and then, that's all that its used for. All my online playing is done on Live.
Free online is one of the reasons for buying my ps3, also because of its exclusives and it doesn't break as easily as the 360
Nope..... but it's one reason I dont own a 360. I am not paying to play online. That's what internet service is for.
Yes. That and my cousin wouldn't shut up for like 3 months about "get a ps3 so we can play mw2 together! blarg!"
its not the main reason, but it is one major factor.
my main factor was the game library (all of which ended up on 360 except gt5). 2nd was the controller. i had the xbox and dreaded playing on those oversized controllers (even the revamped smaller one)
since i loved pc fps and hated analog fps on ps2, i figured that i might need it, but probably wouldnt. i would stick to pc gaming and maybe play a little bit. then cod4 came out then i knew that ps3 was my choice since it was free online....haven't regreted it. i don't know what the complaint is about the sony psn, it functions well and non of the missing features from psn warrant a subscription like cross game chat....
