Well i was downloading the mgs demo with by accident i hit the switch for the powerbar with my foot and the ps3 shut off. So i started it up again and started to download the demo. I left it a while because it takes me a really long time to download demos, and when i came back and checked my curent downloads, there was nothing there, but the demo wasnt in list to install. So i started up Mortal kombat 2 just to see what would happen and the ps3 froze. So then I held the power button to turn it off but the light kept flashing for like 5 minutes so i had to hit the switch on the back. Then when i started the ps3, it said the hardrive is currupted and it needed to be fixed so i left it and it fixed itself, but then now the ps3 will boot up, and i can see the backround and the main icons, but it is frozen and none of the subicons will load. The same thing happens when i try to turn it off, the light keeps flashing and i need to hit the back switch. What should i do??? Do you think i'll need to ship it to them? My warranty is up, so how much do you think they will charge?

Just phone them up and get a free replacement even if your warrenty is up. Theres no way to replace the hardrive coz each ps3 has a security encription which only allows you to use the hardrive that it was build with.

oh lol, its fixed. Thats lucky.

^This plus there are instructions for replacing your hard drive in the manual that comes with your PS3.

Hundreds of people on this forum alone have replaced their PS3 hard drives. My 60 gig became a 250 gig with ease.

DON"T SHIP IT! This happened to me too, I bought a new Hard Drive off ebay for about 50 dollars, it's a 120 GB SATA 2.5" and it works like a dream. DO NOT SHIP IT BACK TO SONY!

That isn't true. The PS3 will work with any 2.5" SATA hard drive. I have changed them myself. You are thinking of the Xbox 360 which has that problem.
