Hey, I'll probably be picking up a Ps3 sometime in June and i was wondering how can you keep your playstation 3 in shape? ( not that it's a living being or anything lol, hopefully you get what i mean). For example I hear xbox 360's tend to heat up. To try and prevent this you keep it some place with lots of ventilation. Should the same be done with a Ps3? How would you go about cleaning dust from inside ? How many times should you clean it a month?

I just want to make sure I have an idea of maintaining it before i buy it.

Keep it well vented. Dust off the vents. That's all I really do, and no problems.

pretty much same as any electronic device. good rule of thumb is the less you use it the longer it lasts.. so dont keep turnin it on and off by the switch in teh back just leave it in standby mode take a cloth to it every once in a while to get the dust off of it (no swiffers). keep it in a nice ventilated area, i usually dont like putting it next to my tv cause its a HDTV and they put some heavy heat out. overall just be nice to it and it will be nice back.

keep it well ventilated, make sure its free of dust & you'll be fine. I've had mine for nearly a year with no problems at all. Its a much more reliable machine than the 360 (i'm on my 3rd one now!!! that shows you how repliable the ps3 is!!!)

When you are playing it, make sure the system has enough airy space.

Well ventilated and clean pretty much the same as any other electronic device for many years now, ;).

And PLEASE chose a cloth wisely :P, it will scartch it like hell, mine is so dam scartched now thanks to 3 cleans! with a bodgy cloth that now I have just given up caring about scartches and use anything to dust it, if only I could buy a replacement top plate/cover thing?

Just never turn it off at the back, theres no need. I don't think I've turned it off at the back since I got it on Day 1. Also, mines running fine as a 60gb day 1 purchase and never done anything to it. All I've done is use the power button, eject button... and that'sit.

dust it regularly. I hadn't played my PS3 for about two days and I went to go play it and it was lined with dust all over the top of it. I seriously don't think I saw any black on the top. That's why I keep a dust cloth near my PS3

own a swiffer duster, pretty much anything else will leave hairline scratches.

keep it on standby and keep it in a cabinet or something under the tv, just dont play it while the cabinet is shut or it will overheat and tell you to turn off the system, this happened to me. But the cabinet is a good idea to keep it away from dust and other such things.

It needs its protein shakes! Whip up a glass of raw eggs an milk and poor it into the PS3's mouth. The mouth is that thing that looks like a vent on the side. No, don't worry its not actually a vent... Its the mouth!! ;)

Keeping it well-ventilated is a must. I've noticed it helps with dust also. It used ot be closer to my TV and would get dusty fast, but now that it's more open, there is less dust.

I dont even use the eject button, I eject it from the menu on the dashboard. Saves a little wear and tear hehe.

first my PS3 and i take a little 2 mile jog in the morning to get our heart rate up, then we sit and have a breakfast of orange juice, egg whites, whole wheat toast, a piece of low fat meat and a cup of coffee. later we hit the gym together and do an hour of weight lifting and 25 minutes of cardio. go home and have some lunch and play a little SF4 to get our fighting skills up to par. i then like to take a short nap, but my PS3 has a mind all it's own and it enjoys going on-line to GS's system wars to spit a little bit of hate towards the 360. i don't approve of this negativity, but it seems to work quite well for my PS3. when i wake up from my little nap i will take a microfiber towel and dust off my PS3 and make sure that my Wii hasn't sat anything to close to the fans on the side of my PS3 for proper ventilation. then we have a fitness drink together before a long night of Fallout 3. we tend to do this same routine every other day. my PS3's twin brother who lives at my brothers house doesn't take care of himself as well and it shows. it has scratches on the surface with dust built up on the fan blades. so sad. if this happens you could use a vacuum to quickly suck the dust bunnies out of your system. one final thing that i believe is very important is to connect your PS3/ tv/ home theatre system to a nice surge protector. i use monster for everything in my house, but that can be expensive and not necessary. any surge protector is better than no surge protector. hope this helps;)

I do use a good surge protecter and have it placed in the middle of my room so it is in the shade.

also i put a doily over the top when not in use to keep it from collecting dust.

I invested in a combination power strip / surge protector and my PS2 and PS3 are next to each other connected to my HDTV.

HDMI cable for PS3 and component cables for the PS2 - I had a splitter at first and both on component cables but the sound did not work in my PS2 until i got an HDMI cable for $20.

I turn off the PS2 with the switch but use the PS button on the sixaxis to turn on and the menu to eject or turn off.

that took awhile to get used to but it works just fine.

i don't think it matters that much but if you start using the menu and controller it is possible to save a little more wear and tear

does not hurt to be careful:wink:
