3D is another stupid gimmick, just like motion controls.

The funny thing is that if any of you guys plan on getting new hdtv's down the line, they will be 3D capable...so even if you don't use the 3D features....YOU will be investing in 3D. :p

what happens if you play 3d + motion controls for example in killzone3 or tumble going by your logic ? does it become a double gimmick or does those two gimmicks negate each other and become no gimmick anymore since its a completely different way to play games and actually fun ?

It just means two gimmicks are being used......

why is everyone so against the glasses, i think it adds to the experience, and they are not uncomfortable, thats why youre paying so muc for them, because they are designed well

i would rather have awesome 3D with glasses over jumpy 3D you can only stare direct at with no glasses

mattamomo

are the glasses tinted? the big draw to 3d without glasses is that there is nothing covering your eyes...so the 3d image is much clearer to look at..

the "3d" may be better with glasses....but the clarity and comfort are not.

Have you seen a 3d tv without glasses? I saw one at CES & still pretty much prefer the glasses. I guess it's a tit for tat in this scenerio.

The same could be said about games & yet we buy them. Uncharted although it is a GREAT franchise has been done before whether it was movies or old games. You can't really say because "it's nothing new" that it's a true blue gimmick. As I said before, I remember when people were calling HD a gimmick & now those same people are all over it....some of them are membes here (yeaaaa, I remember you guys).

for film, avatar is really the only film ive seen to take advantage of 3D in that many of the compositions are completed by the 3D effect. ive heard a few of the animated movies released lately have used it cleverly but i really have no interest in the movies themselves. so basically, im not rushing out to buy a 3dtv for 1 movie and the rate in which good new 3d movies are released isnt very promising for the future.

i havent played any games in 3d, but i expect a similar rate as movies.

EDIT: i guess the bottom line is that i think the technology has potential but its mostly all wasted so far.

3D is old technology that only started getting popular agian because of one movie. I dont see how you can call the Uncharted a gimmick when it is one of the best series on PS3.

I knew what I said would fly over someone's head. To explain what I said again would be a waste since it was put out their simply enough. I WILL say this...nowhere in that last comment did I call Uncharted a gimmick.

I have a sony 52 inch led 3dtv. The tv is awesome but the 3d is something we dont do very often. I play killzone 3 but not very long cuz it starts to burn my eyes. I got my tv on sale from shopnbc.com for $2,000 usd. T.v. also has internet which is awesome for netflix especially right now. Came bluray player and with 3d kit, which was 2 glasses, transmitter, and the movie Alice in Wonderland. Watched only 15 minutes of it. Also two free 3d movies which was Bolt and This is It. Havent seen either of them. The only other movie i watched was Tangled with my daughter and it was okay. When i first start watching, i think this is so cool but 40 minutes into it, well the coolness kinda wears off and i cant really tell whats 3d without really concentrating on it.

You qouted someone saying 3D is a gimmick and replied by saying "the same can be said for games". Next time try being more clear in your post. If your only talking about the "nothing new" part, then your whole argument was entirely pointless.

1. I was CLEAR enough by NOT naming UNCHARTED as one of those games. How about next time YOU not ASSUME something without reading carefully? You new members never fail to amaze me...I swear. 2. Your assumption was pointless.

So let me get this straight. You start out by saying some games can be gimmicks and then completly drop the subject to something completly diffrent without any indication of it whatsoever. How exactly is that being clear? Ok, it may be clear in that inane mind of yours.

Did you call me a new member? I have been on here since around 2005. How about next time YOU dont ASSUME something you know nothing about.

Yes, in my case the glasses are tinted, but just a bit. The television put herself in "overbright" mode when playing 3D enable material so that the color/brightness stay the same as when playing normaly. From my experience the "overbright" is fairly accurate and compensate for the tinted glasses.

Movies I own:

Resident afterlife 3D: Best movie with real person made in 3D so far. Barely watchable in 2D (IMO) because so many slow motion are in it JUST to show off 3D)

Volt: Animation, good 3D impression, nicely done and worth watching

Alice in wonderland: Was not made with 3D in mind, image going too fast, makes me feel a bit dizzy. Not recommended

Polar Express: Very nice remake, worth it (Rollercoster part is wow)

A christmas carol: Very nice movie in itself and even more with 3D on.

Tangled: Best movie out so far, very sharp animation, eye poping 3D effect. Worth every penny

Tron: Good movie but subpar 3D effect, not really worth the investment (IMO)

Why don't people buy 3d monitors instead, I read somewhere that there will soon be monitors to support PS3, and they will be cheaper. If so, I might re-consider.
