Platforming/RTS. Point and click is already dead for the most part. Duckman5

Haha, tell that to all the people who are getting pumped about StarCraft II.

The traditional RPG game is losing its base to MMO games and to action type games (to an extent).

My vote goes for platformers.

Other - Platforming

Luckily, however, the platforming games that have come out recently are easily some of the best games ever made:

Little Big Planet and Mario Galaxy.

Sadly, I feel it is platformers. Being a fan of platformers myself, I can honestly say they are a lot harder to find than anything else now adays.

My Sports Genre is really going nowhere. Madden sucks, EA/2K/Sony really need to figure out the physics/animation that ruins 3D basketball games and the Show 09 is really the Show 07 on PS2.

Sports seems pretty obvious... Every year, same thing, over and over - NBA Live 10, Live 11, 12, NHL 08, 09, 10; same gameplay, obvious and simple VS. matches, rosters update but it's nothing surprising, they just improve how rosters update, visuals, and a few minor button controls. I enjoyed it for a while but now it's pretty much the die-hard fans that can keep it alive. Otherwise anyone else would focus on the other upcoming games with different genres.

[QUOTE="Silent-Hal"][QUOTE="Young_Charter"][QUOTE="Duckman5"] Dead space is action not survival horror. It's in the same boat as RE5. The only real survival horror game that has come out recently is Siren.

it is survival horror....

It really isn't. It doesn't have anything in common with old school survival horror games. It's a third-person shooter with horror elements, just like RE4 and 5.

Just the fact that people THINK Dead Space is real survival horror is a testament to the fact that the genre is indeed dying.

Ok, so that might explain something. I'm super stoked for Star Craft II but alas I'm caucasian. Now using your method of thinking and I'm going to advance that. Liking Starcraft II makes you Asian!!! That would explain the size of my... hmm....yeah you're on to something Ducky.

3d platformers with collectables ie: Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Spyro, Mario 64, etc. For me these games are timeless. They're still completely fun.

FPS are becoming like horror movies in the 80s. cool innovative, exciting at first, but now everything is the same stuff. we are starting to get tired of it.

I'm gonna go with over the top action games like baldur's gate, Dragon age aside, there aren't any being made now, and that is a real bummer.

games that require lots of thinking, wether it be turn based or deep strategy games or puzzle/platform games and even proper tactical shooters. Seems no one wants to play games that require anythin more than reactions, which is quite sad. luckily there are still the die hard fans of these games.

I agree with most people and say platformers are pretty much dead right now. I am disappointed with the lack of quality PS3 RPGs out though. Aside from Oblivion, Fallout, and Valkyria Chronicles, there really isn't much in the way of RPGs. PS1 and PS2 both had a ridiculous number of good RPGs which was great, but PS3 seems to be falling far behind 360 RPGs this gen. It's sad that the only RPGs I play on my PS3 are PS2 games. We need more quality PS3 RPGs. Also, I think FPS is far from dead with the number of people that still play Halo, CoD, Killzone, and Battlefield, plus with Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Bioshock 2 all coming out, FPS is stronger than ever in my opinion.

Why isn't racing on that list? With there being only 1 REAL racing game for the PS3, I think it may pretty much be dead.

I don't know if it's slowly dying but Survival Horror genre is almost forgotten...

Other then "Siren" there really hasn't been a proper survival horror game. You either have tons of guns or some kind of super abilities and the game tries to be horror and nerve wrecking but in this generation of consoles there hasn't been any titles..

I miss Resident Evil and Silent Hill series. Fatal Frame, Clock Tower 3....

Imagine Dead Space atmosphere, visuals and sound with old school zombies and you - a main character as defenceless female with flashlight, watch and barely working radio communication hunted, alone, scared trying to survive horrors on every corner with engaging story, characters and changing environments.

Yeah... I miss proper survival horror game - the possibilities are incredible with today's console technology.

I hope to see one such game this generation.

Anything turn-based.

The turn-based RPG is dead... long live the turn-based RPG; even Dragon Quest IX is being turned into an action RPG from what I understand. Sid Meier's Civilization is the only IP around that's still doing turn-based strategy as well... RTS is pretty much dominating the strategy realm.

Guess people don't want to wait their turn anymore.

thats because there are plenty of racers on the PS3. Motorstorm, Gran Turismo, Burnout, Mid night Club, Grid, Wipeout HD, Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, Dirt, Pure. . . and we have Mod nation Racers on the Way too. but how many Platformers, adventure games, and survival horror games do you see. i bet even if you added up the number of adventure + Platformer + Survival Horror they still wouldn't have as many as racing games. or at least the number would be pretty close.

I would have to say sports.groundgamer

Sports will never die, as long as it still has fans of the real sports, the games will sell like hot cakes.
