What if Gamespot gives Metal Gear 4 a crappy score?? o_O

I don't typically let one person's opinion of a title steer my judgement on whether it's purchase-worthy or not. I don't even trust Gamespot for reviews anymore, they have reviewed too many games in the last 1-2 years and have given those games overrated or underrated scores. (Crysis getting a 9.5 and saying that it revolutionized the FPS genre when it did absolutely nothing new for the FPS genre it was basically Farcry 2 with next-gen graphics, EA Skate getting a 7 when it is the most polished and revolutionary extreme sports game I've played due to it's innovative controls, and Devil May Cry 4 getting an 8 when it deserved a 8.7+ atleast just for the gorgeously made cutscenes alone; that's just to name a few) Based on those and maybe a half dozen other bigger title releases in the last year or so I've concluded that Gamespot is not a good source of reviews. I've now gotten in the habit of going to metacritic.com and looking at overall scores from multiple reviews for games.

However, Gamespot, along with IGN, is the most popular video game website. Now just because I don't look for one person's opinion to make up my mind on whether to purchase a game or not doesn't mean that millions of others do this as well. I've seen many people say, this game got so-and-so and I was so excited to get it but now I'm not. So I'm worried that if one of these reviewers takes some kind of drug, which it looks like they do on some of the reviews, and rates Metal Gear Solid 4 anything but a 9+, (which it better damn well be as it's the most anticipated PS3 game to date, and will be the driving force of the system's sales when it comes out) and will result in tons of people not getting it or the PS3 it can damage the Playstation 3's future. Because these websites DO make a strong impact on sales, that's why Eidos was so pissed at that Jeff kid for the low score on Kane and Lynch. And I fear this for the Playstation 3. Because quite honestly, folks, the PS3 doesn't have more than a small handful of exclusives for itself. I love my PS3 don't get me wrong. But it seems like strong Playstation only titles like Devil May Cry are now expanding into the Xbox arena which I think is total BS. Even GTA IV is going to be on the Xbox now! WTF!? So the PS3 needs more awesome exclusives, and this game is the biggest hope for that and if it gets maimed by a Gamespot review I will never visit this site again.

That's what I said, I use metacritic.com :) I'm not worried about it for myself but for how well it'll end up selling then if it get's a bad score because many people DO look for just one review and make their decision. And the PS3 needs more hot exclusives, and this is that big hope.

I really don't get why people get so worked up with reviews. A review is only another person's opinion! And whether he/she is paid to give it or not doesn't alter the fact that the principles of good and bad are subjective, not universal. Opinions don't carry facts.

Gamespot reviews are biased, thats almost a fact. However, they are biased over publicity and hype, not over consoles.

I don't think they will give MGS4 a bad score with all the hype and the traffic they will get... It is far more likely that they will overrate it like they did with the likes of Halo, and will get a 9.0 or 9.5, whether it deserves it or not.

This pretty much summarizes all there is to say. Just add a fact there are millions out there who enjoyed them and any bad review of any website just lost all of its credibility because MGS is a fantastic franchise in every sense of the word.

If you just remotely take a look at any video out there of MGS-4 at the moment and especially Mr. Kojima 15 minutes actual gameplay video where he shown us how the game is - I was sold.

Mr. Kojima said on E3 2007 after he introduced a never seen before trailer to the audience that he is putting all of his heart into this last chapter of Solid Snake.

Do you really believe he mess up what probably is one of the most recognised series in gaming history? I think not. And the gameplay videos are enough evidence not to mention Konami's reputation is flawless with Metal Gear.

There is no score on a website or any one person opinion that will stop me from purchasing Metal Gear Solid 4.

This is why we have places where we can rent games before we purchase. I haven't listened to any of the reviews for the longest time as some have gotten ridiculous. I mean they complain about some of the dumbest things.

And if there is a game I want I get it regardless of reviews or word of mouth ..

mgs4 doesnt need a high score to sell. neither did halo, unfortunately it recieved one anyway

And the only reason the PS3 fangirl's want that 9.5 from gamespot is because they are sick of pathetic 360 fangirl's parading there exclusive game's.

Personally i don't really care, i loved the mgs game's so far i doubt i will be dissapointed by the next one, but i don't know what people expect didnt mgs3 get a 8.5 or something i forget, but it was an awesome game and 8.5 seems fair, it had it's problems, camera work from early 3d days, poor control scheme, these things effected enjoyment i played the subsistence version and the difference in camera angles was night and day in my opinion.

MGS4 seem's to have fixed it's biggest issue's, you can now control the camera and the controls are more streamlined, i would predict(based on the developers history, and these new improvements) this will be the highest rated mgs game ever on gamerankings,metacritic etc.

Getting upset about someone's opinion is silly im my eye's, yes game reviewers bring a proffesional opinion but it's still an opinion, a reviewer may not like the over the top characters and cut-scenes and mark it down accordingly for that, one site may score it too high because a long time MGS(kojima) fan cannot see anything wrong with there fav franchise.

Reviews play a minute part in my game purchases, i buy 99% of my games online and i pre-order them months in advance, and out of the 60+ 360 game's,8+ ps3 games,6 wii games and 15 or so pc games that i have bought over the last 2 or so years since the star of the next generation i'd say theres only been around 5 games i bought i was dissapointed with and 3 of those were on the wii.

I judge my purchases through preview's,gameplay vid's and developer or franchise history and rarely i will wait till reviews are out and then i will read several from site's i persoanly find on the same wave length as me, my top three are predictable but i believe certain employee's of these site's are impartial and have similar tastes to me, gamespot,1up and ign, with 1up being my fav site mainly because of it's adult themed content, i enjoy the 1up show where as i find on the spot seems to be catered for kid's.

Believe or not, it's better for us if they gave it a bad score because all gamers know that MGS4 is amazing regardless of the review here. That would add some legitimacy to the claim that they're biased against the PS3. If MGS4 gets an 8.5, it will make games like Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank look a whole lot better by comparison at just .5 lower for Uncharted and 1 point lower for Ratchet and Clank.

Well, many have been looking for proof of GS bias. If every other site gives MGS4 a good score, and GS doesn't, I may buy into the bias as well. However, with that being said, at the moment I don't really think there is an overall bias, just a couple of bad reviews, which everyone is allowed a couple of mistakes. I'm hoping they get someone that owns more than 2-3 ps3 games to review it, so another mistake is less likely.MyzeDivine

wow its good to see someone who's smart. im tired of all the ps3 fanboys crying about how gamespot is out to get the ps3. face it, the ps3 hasnt had their best games come out so far. and no, im not a 360 fanboy, i have both systems. but honestly, the ps3's game library hasnt exactly been the greatest so far, in terms of exclusives.

Seriously. They aren't THAT great, straight forward, neutral or legit. Gamespot cannot be taken seriously. They "take sides" and contribute to this "system war". Any serious game reviewing company that reviews ALL FORMATS would not "prefer" one over another. People complain back and forth that Gamespot is biased and is not biased. From someone like myself and what I've seen, being someone that's moreless veiwing this from the "outside" and don't subscribe or even care about "who vs what". I would say Gamespot was pretty obviously biased towards the 360 for quite some time (and remember, this is comming from someone that doesn't even involve himself in that crap. I just call what I see) and openly bashes PS3 (along with any other person that jumps on the bandwagon) and pretty much silences anybody who spoke against it. It was all made clear when the 360 was released and made even worse when PS3 came out. It's not about what happened with Jeff. They lost all of my respect when they started this. I expected a mature and serious game review site (which it was before the next gen systems) but it was flushed down the toilet. I honestly don't see how anybody can take this place seriously. Before anybody says "then why come here?" The reason why is cause the PS3 boards here are really active, and despite the idiocy of some people, "the real" PS3 news usually hits here before anywhere else.

I say legit because I'm still waiting for Gamespot to give a true exclusive a 9/10 at least. Seeing how this is the only good site that hasn't done it yet. :|

A lot of the scores given are deserved, but the reasons behind the scores were crappified.

4) Create CHAOS on launch date, kinda similar to the PS3 launch period back in november 2006!
