honestly i dont really blame sony as much as the developers for leaving the loop hole in to cheat, socom was crazy with the getting in walls and crap and that was a sony game i actuallyblame them for, but it will never end when you have players that cant win ever so they resort to cheatin,i mean i dont mind if they make their own room and have fun but not when people are trying to have a serious game but good luck solving that problem xbox live cant even do it

Cheating in online console gaming is at least less prevalent than it is in online PC gaming. In PC games you can often access the CFG file, registry, and sometimes even the source code itself and hack the game into something that you can use as an advantage online. Not so the case in console games. That being said, gamers are able to find exploits and glitches and employ them as poor man's cheats. Once a console's hardware has been modified, usually with a black-market kit purchased and installed by the end-user, more aggressive cheats akin to what we see in the PC arena are feasible.

Microsoft's Spring Update addressed some known hacks by crippling modified XBox 360's who gave off signals XBL was able to detect by sniffing the machine's connection. However, my understanding is that since then, those criminals have determined a way around the Spring Update cripple and are back at it.

The best defense against cheaters is the social...finding a group of online friends that you are comfortable playing with and trust. Building up a large enough stable of honorable players in your friends list will allow you to host a room where it is friends only. Even if you cannot fill the room up, with only one or two slots of people you do not know, it will be relatively easy to detect who the cheaters are.

Where the PS3 lacks in employing this defense is in the fact your friends lists are often game specific and do not span into the PS3s operating system. Once Playstation Home comes online, it might be easier to manage your friends list from a system wide perspective and develop a list of friends that you play multiple games with and you can count on not to cheat.

I say what's the point cheating though? Are they so hard up in life that they have to win in a game at any cost?

The way I see it is that cheaters are people who cant win at all so they just fall back on cheating and rely 24/7 on it.

I think its sad that people have to resort to cheat just because they cant win this makes you a looser and you suck at games maybe if they spent more time on gettin good insted of cheating they wouldnt have to do it so much and plus cheating makes people hate you
