What was your reason to buy a PS3?

Some say they bought a PS3, for the Blu-Ray, some for the games like Killzone2 MGS 4 or FF XIII. Or was it for the media options the PS3 had? Or even becuase u felt comfortable and trusted with Sony cos of the fact that the PS2 was so good in the past?

So what was your reason why u bought the PS3?

I don't think I have a definitive answer, but here's my attempt to assess my purchase:

I don't believe it was for a single game but for a collection of games. Because I went through a PSX, PS2 (and PSP) I wanted sequels to some of my favorite titles with a whole new look, and that's what the PS3 provides. But in the end it was an "I'm used to Sony's consoles and don't have an urge for anything else" kind of decision. That's probably the honest truth.

And now if I fast forward from the time of purchase to today, and reflect on my decision, I have to say that my choice was correct. Also, I never cared for all of the extra features that the PS3 possessed as a basis for my purchase (i.e. blu-ray, internet, media, etc.), but now I find myself enjoying those features as well.

Seriously, welcome to Q3 2008, not Q1 2007. PS3 has some great games right now. 360 has plenty if not more total exclusives but for a year behind it, the PS3 is doing very well.

I bought mine because of blu-ray, 1080P, free internet, better controllers, idea of motion sensing, have a PSP, have some PS2 games and had more I still wanted to play but didn't own a PS2 anymore. And it has much more PROMISE for the future. 360 is what it is, its already struggling to perform as well as PS3 in some games, the PS3 isn't even trying yet.

Not to mention I put Linux on my PS3 for fun and I can use any HD I want. People need to wake up to the next gen and USE your system, quit saying "I only use it for games!". You know how to use Linux, use it. You want to use the internet and you don't have a computer or someones on it already, use it. You want to watch a movie, buy a blu-ray movie. Get with the times, eventually 360 owners are going to have to get a blu-ray player, well as much as they "needed" to get DVDs instead of VHS. You can dodge it for a few years yet, but we'll have a few years of watching them in the books already.

When I bought a PS3 at EB games the guy working there said in his exact words "You bought a real awesome system, man". He was right.

Just wanted to change, I had the original XBOX last gen.

He is right, the ps3 does so much more than just play games, it would be a waste to not use it to its full potential.

had ps1 and ps2....tbh i just cant see my life witout sony products in certain areas....such as gaming and tvs...

I bought the PS3 based on my experience with SONY products particularly their gaming consoles, the PS and the PS2. I own both and SONY has supported both system excellently as far as games and technical support. They make reliable systems, or at least the consoles i purchased were reliable. I stand behind SONY 100%, until they screw up, which is unlikely.

I bought mine because I like the controller and for the exlcusives, yes some of them are multiplat now but who cares really. It is so annoying that people are always complaining about exclusives disappearing when exclusives are disappearing on all 3 systems. Bioshock and Eternal Sonata are no longer exclusive to 360. It seems like the other sequels will be on PS3 as well. We have the better controller for fighters, so even if Tekken 6 goes multiplat, we still have it better. Wow you paid more money to be able to play the same game. People that bought ps2 in 2002 got to play the same games for the cheaper price as well. I just got a 360 for 300 and got to play games at a hundred dollars less than early adopters. Get over it. If you adopt early you pay more.

The PS3 has a better first party than microsoft and it has equal versions of almost all multiplats. Some games run a squeak better on PS3 because of the install that people hate so much. Here is an idea for people who are disappointed in the PS3 and for future system buying. Look to what the first party has and not the 3rd. If you buy a system for one game that is your own fault. You can't blame companies because of your own stupidity. I am not denying that Sony screwed up. I hope you do sell your systems because without people like you on these boards because I am sure we won't run into actually playing a game. There is plenty of games coming in both retail and downloadable titles between now and spring, so shut up and play something unique like little big planet.

Games: Mainly because of MGS4

Platform: The PS3 (like previous playstations) are always built for the long term (PS2 is still alive and kicking).

I deemed that the PS3 gave the most value for its price tag even if everyone said it was too expensive.

And because of the cell processor and blu-ray, I never regret my decision to buy the PS3.

The way u put it it sounds to simple, although i kind of agree with you. The word exclusive has a whole different meaning these days. it will be on one console for a period of time only. companys wanna make money so better to get them on all the systems. ofcoarse there will always be exceptions with some games but that is mostly from Sonys own studios or Microsofts own studios.

R&C, Uncharted, MGS4, LBP, SO4 (but thats now apparently 360 exclusive), A few arcade style PSN games

Reliable hardware, Blueray, easy to upgrade capacity, i put yellow dog Linux on it and play a bunch of snes games with my PS controller, BC for all my PS2/PS1 games (no more buying memory cards), free online.

Also it will be perfect once i get my PSP and can use remote play!

I refuse to buy a console that probably will break in 3 years, i still have my NES, SNES, GENS, N64, GC, PS2, XBOX and they all still work just as well as they did when i bought them. the only console i owned that isn't working that great is the original PlayStation and that's because of the mod not the system. If Microsoft ever fixes the RROD, makes their next system BC, and offers free online i might consider buying it.

I basically bought a PS3 because I previously had a PS2, and seeing as my favorite games on the PS2 were Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank, I knew they would end up on the PS3!

I also bought it, well just because I feel I am better of with Sony, as I have been for most of my gaming experience, except for the Nintendo 64, which remains one of the best consoles to me, which is why I also got a Wii!

I bought a ps3 because first of all I knew that I get quality with SONY and because I also knew that they try to make the superior product. We are not counting games vs. quality here but quality vs quality. I do not personally know anybody who had tech problems with ps3 but I know a ****load of people with xbox drama. Other than that the technology on a ps3 is more advanced than any other current console. It takes a long time for developers to dedicate a ps3 team in their company because programming for ps3 aint that easy-more info, more detail, more more....

That is why I got my ps3

I bought a ps3 because i want to play video games.
I have been using the same controller since PS1
so im used to it and wouldnt want another controller.
