I just can't see whats so good about it, i mean. A driving simulator? I'd much rather buy DIRT 2. I can't even see the graphics being that good, i've seen HD gameplay videos of GT5: prolouge and have seen better graphics on 360 games, i would expect long grass, detailed damage system and amazing graphics and weather system. Am i missing something big, or is it just me being the odd one out?

Well it is kind of silly to say you don't see the attraction of the game if you obviously don't like sims. Obviously you don't like that kind of raceing game, but some do, so that is the big attraction :P. It is the driving sim with the most precise driving mechanics, most cars, and just a all over polished series (from what I hear). I am going to see how it does and if it does well I will probably buy it and play it with my G25 steering wheel.

Well, I don't see the attraction in DiRT 2. Mud? Energy drink ads everywhere? I'd much rather buy GT5.

The game doesn't appeal to me at all. I like aggressive racing games like Need for Speed and Burnout, or off road racers like Motorstorm, but GT5 is kind of boring in comparison in my opinion.

It's Gran Turismo. Gran...Turismo.

Since you seem new to this whole thing I'll go into more detail. Gran Turismo has always had the most beautiful graphics, a huge collection of cars and realistic handling, but the real draw is the indepth career mode. It offers a similar experience to an RPG, you start small, win some races, make money, improve your car and buy better cars to race in harder and harder events. By the end you'll have a huge stable of highly modified cars to tackle even the toughest of challenges all around the world. Frankly nothing else has anything to match it in the racing genre.

I don't think the game looks bad, I just don't have as much fun with a driving simulator than when I play an arcade racer.

Cars. That's the main draw. It's not the handling (which lacks the grippy tangible feel of games like Forza or Race Pro/On/etc), it's not the structure of the singleplayer, it's not the AI or racing itself, it's the cars. Lots of cars, beautifully modeled, that you can stare at in menus or in the game's magnificent looking replays after racing on any of the numerous courses. Gran Turismo has always been car porn, which is part of the reason GT5P was so disappointing - very few cars, an even smaller selection of tracks, and a career mode that was almost GTPSP bad. Career mode has never been spectacular in the games, but it gives you enough reason to plod onwards so you can earn enough money to buy most (if not all) of the cars in the game.

I have to agree with the TC in this one, to some extent at least.

I'm not saying that GT games are bad, but nowadays just having pretty graphics doesn't cut it anymore, I want to see true to life physics and realistic real time car destruction, which , as far as I know, are not very well done in GT5...

And seriously, if that speed challenge/demo thing that was on psn a while ago is anything to go by, the handling is ludicrous... how realistic is to have your car go from 100 MPH to 5 MPH in 1 second when you hit a patch of grass or dirt? and staying at 5 MPH until you ultimately exit the evil dirt/grass... I hated it at least... I really don't have high hopes for this game at all, it's like the developers did good in the first games, but then they just stopped in time and did not followed with the times....

Umm, you get to drive expensive cars you'll probably never touch in places you'll never go. If you don't think GT5 looks good I think there may be something wrong with your eyes... or brain. :?LightR
Basically this^. Besides GT5 includes: 1) over 900 unique cars 2) Indy Car circuit 3) NASCAR circuit 4) World Rally Car circuit 5) Full online play with lobby system And, yes, GT 5 prologue has excellent graphics which should be as good if not better for GT5. I guess the answer is that GT5 is a high quality game with something for a wide variety of racing fans.

Will GT5 have a career mode? I loved that mode: racing, earning money and getting better at it. GT games also had a lot of detail in them allowing you to modify your car (gears, suppression etc), gears to all the smaller components which would improve your car. The music was good too! This for me made GT one of the best racing games ever.

It had better, although looking at what Polyphony did with GT5P and GTPSP, I wouldn't be surprised if there is no career mode. GT4's was almost perfect, scattering you around a stylized map with class races, manufacturer races, and all sorts of challenges. If they did that again with some extra stuff I'd be quite happy.

I like racing games, but I don't see the appeal at all, especially with games like Forza already out. It looks like a pretty basic driving simulator to me.

I always hated the music in the series, hopefully they implement custom play-lists from my HDD.

Simulator games are known for their simulation. Arcade racers are there for instant gratification but simulations are made to simulate the objective. I'm not good at Gran Turismo but I have respect for those that have mastered the games. I have friends that are also car fanatics and they can talk about cars for as long as I can talk about videogames.

Let me step in here. I do not like Gran Torismo, and most gamers don't but for driving sim, Gran Turismo is the king, HANDS DOWN. I'm glad the franchise exists, this is what project gotham racing and forza compete against.

The driving physics are the benchmark for racers, they always have been. Think of Prologue as a demo (which it pretty much is). Damage is implemented in GT5 as the only ppl who hated gt was due to its "bumper car physics". Wait until the finished product, they never disappoint.
