This is a big purchase so I want to make sure I buy from a retailer that doesn't throw all their merchandise around on the ground and has an easy return policy so I would have no troubles returning it if it is defective. The following retailers are around my area (San Jose\Bay Area):

Best Buy

Gamestop

Target

Walmart

Fry's Electronics

Circuit City (not sure if they even sell PS3's though)

So which is the safest bet for me to get this thing from in terms of return policy and good merchandise handling when shipments come in? Thanks in advance.

Best Buy = Reward points and I've never had a problem with them. Walmart would be the last place I'd buy one. (went to buy a 360 there and it turned out it was some old 360 that was opened...) On a side note, I bought a 360 from Gamestop and I've gone through 4 of them and a PSP of which I'm on my 2nd, so I think that they're quality is lacking. I'd say Best Buy, Fry's, Target or CC.

I got mine at Future Shop...

I would say bestbuy, but when I got one there, it turned out to be an opened one... so I got a new one from FutureShop and returned the opened one.

So what is all this reward zone/points stuff you are talking about? Will I be entitled to discounts\free purchases if I spend enough cash there? I mean I will drop $500 LOL

Well I'm definatelly dropping my $60 on Skate because my friend works at Sony and can get me PS3 games for $10 a piece but I'm just too excited to get it tommorrow that I don't give two ****'s cuz I'm already spending $400 + tax on the PS3 itself LOL (dumb, true) but in the future all my PS3 games will be $10 :) :) :)

It's a card where they scan it when you buy something and you certain amount of money back in gift card form in the mail. I don't know the specifics but you get some money back after you use it for a while.

Get it at Circuit City and use the $40 off any $200 purchase coupon. I got my PS3 last week for $359 using it. It says not good on consoles, but it scanned and worked just fine for me. It also expires tomorrow (31st) so do it ASAP. The coupon can be found on cheapassgamer.com

You know I read up on that just now and it says you get a $5 reward for every 250 points. $1 = 1 point. So by spending $500 on a PS3 and game there I will get $10 off. woot.......

Circuit City, Best Buy and Gamestop/Ebgames don't sell the 80Gb version anymore (assuming thats what you plan to get) Circuit City sells both the 40 and 80Gb SKUs.

No absolutely not I'm not planning on getting the 80GB that's just a silly waste of money. There's no reason to get the 80GB for me whatsoever. I'll be paying an extra $100 for more space? Don't think so.

Not just extra space. The 80 gig has backwards compatability, 2 more USB ports, and card readers. The 40 gig doesn't have that.

Personally, I usually buy my consoles from target or best buy. Id reccomend them because I have never got a faulty product from them just make sure you get a box that looks like it hasnt been banged around or anything. Bought my 360 from gamestop and have been through 2 of them already but thats probably just because of the hardware in the 360. Picked up my 80 gig ps3 from target a few weeks ago and its worked great so far. Also, make sure you print out the 5 free bluray offer thing and mail it before the offer ends O_o.

Yea, I think you should wait a while before you make your purchase because you dont seem to know what your buying. 80Gb is the only console with backwards compatibility and they are discontinuing it soon. They are going to come out with a 120Gb PS3 with the Dualshock 3. No word on Backwards Compatibility yet.

i'd say best buy. i swear by best buy, get all my movies there, all my games, dvd players. you can get a 2 year replacement plan for $30.00 which i found useful when my 360 died.

you can sign up for the reward zone and when you spend a total of $250 you get a $5.00 gift certificate either in the mail or email spend $500 you get $10 in gift certificates.

i've gotten probably $100 in like 2 years of having it, maybe more, dont know exactly.

everythign i've ever gotten from best buy has been reliable ( minus the 360 but thats not very reliable in its own right)

Yes I know about the BC and that they are discontinuing it soon because that they want to push the new line of product. But I have no interest in playing PS2 games on my PS3 as my girlfriend has a PS2. I mostly want my PS3 for PS3 games, duh and the Blu-Ray movies.

You are already spending a good deal on money on the system... why not spend a little more to get a lot more? I am already downto 50GB on my 80GB... and I had it for less than a month! Plus, you get to rekindle your love for PS2 games and put inyour SD card to get files off of and plug in a bunch of crap into the extra USB hubs.

Its like people refusing to pay for higher octane gas... you are already paying a price to get to low end stuff, just add a little more to get the really good stuff.

hahah. this is absurd. unless you have a sports car higher octane gas is an absolute WASTE of money. they want you to believe it's better for the car but again, unless you are driving a sportscar or motorcycle, you do not need it whatsoever.

Not exactly.... I drive an A4 and wouldn't consider that a sportscar, but it needs higher octane gas. It's more for cars that are more precisely tuned and efficient. Since higher octane gas burns better and cleaner it makes your engine more efficient (see: better acceleration, mileage, etc) and helps keep it cleaner from sludge (which also contributes to those earlier things). Useless? No... but I guess it's what it's worth to you.

I work at the electronics department in Target and we dont throw around our systems. were pretty good at taking care of it all. If ur 18 u can also sign up for a Target Redcard and get 10% off. And if u know someone who works at a Target use their employee discount number to get another 10% off.

this is a total load of bull propegated by the oil industry to sell you more expensive gas. look up the datline expose where they showed that it is even questionable for a race car to require premium gas. feel free to fall for the scam, but it is one none the less.
