well there you go you pretty much need to play the other ones before you play the 4th. I actually felt the same way as you guys did before I played any of the mgs games, but last year I got the first 3 and now I must say I am very excited for this game.Ive never been into MGS but then a few days ago I saw MGS3 for $10 and I absolutely LOVE it. I went out and bought the second one yesterday so I can play it after I finish the third. Ill finish 3, then read the plot for 1 since I cant find it ANYWHERE, then Ill play 2 and impatiently wait for 4. sarmini
If you have a gamecube you can get the twin snakes. It looks SOOOO much better than the PS1 version. It looks and plays like MGS2 on PS2. Or follow the link in my sig. Goozex has it available. Matter of fact I have the PS1 version of MGS 1 coming to me right now. As well as VR Missions for PS1. If you have a PSP then you really must play Portable Ops as well. It's got story that is part of the MGS universe.
Well MGS4 Is only the most anticipated exclusive in the games industry.
read below for more info on why MGS4 will be awesome.

I can tell you all about metal gear solid there is not enough room to write it all so just go and get the three games. If you go an purchase them make to play the games in order from metal gear solid, metal gear solid son's of liberty, and metal gear solid snake eater. that is the way the game must be played or you will not understand what is going on. The metal gear solid games are a must buy for story, action, drama...etc the game as it all ;)gipps85Im actually playing MGS3 first since its the prequel, then Im going to read the plot for MGS and then start MGS2
The game may be very good , but i dont think that it will be the ps3 savior. Thats just me, so dont flame me.

The PS3 doesn't need a "savior".

i dont beleive mgs4 will be ps3's savior, have you seen its 08 line-up, gran turismo, killzone 2, haze, ut111, threw gta in to the mix, with final fantasy, and it will be a great year, as well as all those games that will be also on 360, ive got both machines, but my ps3 will prob be gettin the most use this yea.
as for mgs series, it can only be played b4 you can understand exactly how good they are, emagine sitting in a cinema, but having full control of the greatest action heroes ever, it is fundamentaly a movie/game, theres a lot of conversation and backstory.

Have you seen the amount of drama:

brings to websites everywhere? 0__0
Its the ultimate game. Itll do your work, drive your kids to school, and keep your wife busy while you go to strip clubs.
MGS is my favourite game series like ever.... ever.... ever, lol. Personally the 4th one doesn't look as good as the others. Wjats the deal with the crosshair! Manual aiming was one of the best things adding to the realism of metal gear and they threw in a stupid crosshair, pfff. Still, I bet MGS will sell more than a million copies on day one.

Lol I did the same thing, played em backwards. It took me AGES to find MGS1 but I managed toget one on eBay.
Only people who haven't played the series think like this. You have to go out and play the games as they came out then come back here and tell me you're not excited for MGS4.Ocram_Zepol
You don't know people this gen!
-Can't wait for MGS4.

The excitement starts with the fact that Metal Gear Solid was one of the best PS1 games(along with FFVII, RE2, etc), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was one of the best PS2 games(along with both God of Wars, FFX, etc)...not to mention the emotion and cinematic beauty that all of the games have become synonymous with. If you played these games, you would understand that.
MGS is an extremely successful franchise, and MGS has done many things for Sony, and vice versa. The hype for this game is justified...not only does it not look 'underwhelming' or whatever it is the people in this thread have said, but don't judge a 4th game in a series if you haven't played the first 3, let alone not 1 of them.
For example, Devil May Cry 4...I've never played a Devil May Cry before, so needless to say, I'm not all that excited for DMC4...but does it look underwhelming? No, because I imagine myself being a person who's stuck with the series from the beginning. Their Dante is my Solid Snake.
What's your favorite game series? Who's your hero? Is it Zelda, is your hero Link? Is it Halo, is your hero Master Chief? I've never played these games, so I don't look up to Link and Master Chief as my hero--but I appreciate what they're like to some people, because that is what Solid Snake is to me. Try thinking of it that way...
To end this rant, I'll say that I beat the first Metal Gear Solid when I was 9 years old, going on 10. This game had a very big impact on my life. The first PS2 game I ever played/saw in PS2 graphics was Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. And, easily the most emotional experience I've ever had with a game was Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater...I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.
...I tried my best to express just WHY this game is so important to so many people, and why it is looked at as a 'savior', whether the PS3 needs one or not. TC, do yourself a favor--play The Twin Snakes(MGS1 remake), then play MGS2, then play MGS3, and then come and tell me you're not excited for MGS4, and then proceed to make an appointment for a CT scan.
Thank you for your time.

Yeah, I'm a gamer, but I wouldn't be the extreme gamer that I am without Metal Gear Solid...and I can say that as a true fact. I would not be where I am today if it were not for Hideo Kojima, Solid Snake, Meryl Silverburgh, et cetera.
We all had games that popped our video game cherries. I played Genesis with Sonic and Ecco the Dolphin, and before that SNES with Mario, but Metal Gear Solid and Solid Snake really took it to the next level. This is why I love it.

As long as you're...BACK, what's your idea of average? Kojima is king of innovation. Unless you hate innovation, I don't see your logic.

The game cube version doesn't feel as classic as the original... but since you haven't played it you probably won't notice the difference. Try looking on ebay or something lol.

You'll have to either get lucky on eBay or in a bargain bin, or hope that Sony will smarten up and release games like MGS1 and Resident Evil on the PS store...(still waiting)
I still have my original MGS from 1998, with the white background and METAL GEAR SOLID logo in glowing candy-red Bladerunner fashion...I love the Shinkawa artwork, but that cover is CLASSIC...love it.

That is actually an unwise decision, mainly because Snake Eater's story was written after MGS 2, therefore, some characters and events that take place in part 3 help explain some parts of MGS 1 and 2.
In other words, by playing the prequel first, you lose the "Oh S**t" moments that many people experienced by playing Snake Eater as the third installment, and not the first. Just a little friendly advice for you. :)
