whats the point in trophies?

hey i have been reading the ps3 forums a little recently since i plan on buying a ps3 and i can see some of you are talking about trophies from diffrent games...what is that and whats the point in it? is it like the achivements from xbox360(and wow:P) and if they are why do people care about them?? some of my friends are like trying to get as many achivements as possible and when they show them off i am like /golfclap.../careface...cause i can't see the point in it...if you could get a pricecut in dlc's by having a high number of achivements i could see the point in it

for the first they give the game more replay value and challenges you. some throphies make you experience more of the game world and the story. for the second you can compete with your friends in who is the greatest in a game you both got.

Just for fun. You don't have to get a 100% trophies in a game to feel good about it. The game itself is better than a trophy will ever be.

They are mainly there for fun

They are also there so you can compete between friends. if you think about it i supposed it makes the games longer as you will spend more time trying to get the trophies

just an extra addition IMO

I think tropies are useless as hell, inless they add something unique to the game.. Such as unlocking characters, items etc etc.. sSubZerOo

I didn't really care for trophies until I got a few. They just add replay value to the games in the end now.

Adds a challenge to a game when you've completed it.
