Because i enjoy games. no matter what console they are on. Tho' the fact that i've collected different consoles since i was little (got some of the older consoles back from before i was born from my dear father) might have something to do with it :)
Back when the ps3 launched and it didn't look like many good games would be coming out for a while I bought it without a seconds hesitation knowing that MGS4 would one day come out on it and since then I haven't touched my 360 but to play maybe four games and haven't touched it again in months.
i bought the 60gb for $499, 5 free bluray disc, as soon they announced that future SKU's will not have BC. so i thought this is a great chance to buy one... so im one of the few millions that have the 60gb with BC
ps3 controller ( wich we are all been playing with it for the past 10 years i think ) so i got used to sony controller cant switch

its the most populer console in my country wich means all my friends buying ps3s
and i also can take away all what i sayed and just say coz the ps3 have god of war 3 as an exclusive game now this is a big reason for me to get a ps3 :)
The reasons I bought a PS3 are: 1) I LOVE Sony, owned the previous systems: PS1 and PS2 (NEVER owned an xbox or xb360) 2) The games that you won't find on any other system. 3) Quality: Sony always delivers a quality product (check the history) the PS3 is going to win this system war. 4) The backwards compatibility- I own alot of PS2 games and it seems like a logical choice that I own a system that I can use for those games as well.
Mainly Final Fantasy XIII / Versus XIII, but I also wanted the backward compatibility to play some of the PS1 Final Fantasys that I haven't got around to playing yet.
Honestly the main reason i bought mine was for blu ray, g/f wanted a dvd player upstairs for the new hdtv so we figured why not, the fact it plays games is more for me :D MGS4, MLB 08, FFXIII....
Cause i'm a Sony fanboy haha. Prefer the games on PS, I've grown up with PS 1 and PS2, prefer everything about the PS franchise. Have an Xbox, i like it. I'm sure the 360 is good too.. apart from it breaking, i just wouldn't spend my money on it even if it had a flawless design.
2) I have a PSP, so I like the fact I can remotely connect to my PS3 with the PSP :)
Those were my initial reasons, but I am even happier I have it now. :) I love COD 4, and I just finished Uncharted. Uncharted was so much fun, and I'm going back through it now to get all the treasures. :) I have Oblivion: GOTY Edition on the way now :D
For the variety of games I felt it would, eventually, have to offfer. That and I was really displeased with Nintendo's last console, in terms of community (it seemed like everyone prefered to play Sony's Playstation and the, then new, Microsoft's XBOX).
