5/7/2007 -> Drop to $19.99
Kidding.
If I had to guess, I'd say holiday season 2007 with a drop to $550. $500 if Sony is feeling particularly generous.
The rumored 80GB unit could throw a wrench into all these predictions and we might see that price drop sooner if that device does come to fruition.Â
Again with the pricedrops... Want it? Get it. The worst thing that could happen to you is that you missed a 25$ deal. If you are looking for a significant pricedrop, say... 150$, wait something like 2009.Â
Or, pay full launch price and get the rumored but soon to be released 80gb. When? God knows.  Â
I still don't believe it'll drop price by anything until next summer. Losing $270 units is alot- no matter how you cut the cake. No lower production costs can make up $270 in 8 months time.RoganSarineprodution costs have already gone down they switched to a cheaper way to make the cell, blueray is getting cheaper and they removed the backwards compatability thing so i hope for a $100 cheaper by this christmas.

Sounds like they're making it worse by removing quality to me. I can understand blue-ray getting cheaper- but their blueray player is already the cheapest one on the market and you get more with it. Removing the emulation chip? It makes me wonder how THAT will work properly.
Still... That'd mean they're production costs would have to go down $400. That's a hell of alot regardless of how they cut the corners.
