I dont know when, but why would they stop, People are still purchasing it every now and then. Its a great value for a family with young kids and games are plenty and cheap.

Another 2-4 years of production but thats doesn't mean stop selling. You can still get PSXs new on some online stores so going to be a long time.

It has a 10 year life cycle.....so NEXT YEAR is the last year of the PS2 then Sony will focus on the PS3!

From watching E3 it appears as if Sony has realized that the PS2 would be a decent opponent to the Wii. With the vast library of games for the PS2 along with its affordable price-point the PS2 is a great way to get people into gaming. I personally think it's a pretty good strategy in that they're prolly hoping that the ppl that do end up getting a PS2 then move onto the PS3 and/or other Sony products. So I'm thinking the PS2 will hang around until the Wii life cycle dissipates meaning I wouldn't even be surprised if we see more new titles for the PS2 also.

Simple when it no longer is profitable for sony to continue selling them.

However as long as people continue to buy them they will continue to sell.

as soon as it loses relavance...it's sellling over 100,000 units a month, which is huge for any business...and honestly, because devs can port from the wii to the ps2, i don't see the ps2 going anywhere for a long time...

I'm as astonished as you that they are still selling PS2's... but I guess that's a compensatory effort to hide the fact that the currently available PS3's have poor to no BC with what is undoubtedly Sony's most successful business period ever.

It probably has 2-3 more years to go, as long as JRPG's are made for it and quality ones at that, it will sell.

The decline of PS2 will happen when companies/developers who are focusing on PS2 RPG market mainly move up to PS3, which I'm anticipating as soon as FFXIII is released.

Fear not, PS2 had a great life span and it will still continue to bring profit for few more years.

Most likely at the end of its 10yr life cycle like what others said. Now that could mean either they would stop producing PS2s, or development for it will cease.

It's still getting support from other companies, companies like NIS, EA, LucasArts, Atlus, etc are still supporting it. Probably like a few people are saying, 2011 seems like the ideal year they will stop selling the PS2.

It's a difficult thing to predict. The most clear answer that I can imagine would be that they'd stop selling PS2s when their annual revenue through software sell-through didn't cover the manufacturing cost of the PS2 hardware. PS2s are still selling like hot-cakes so I don't see PS2 going to the grave any time soon. I bet it still has another 2 years in it. Heck, I still saw PS-one in the retail stores 3 years ago, so that's a good sign :)

For those without new-gen consoles, Star Wars: The Force Unleased, will probably be the PS2's last good selling game. I Think that Sony will see how well the PS2 does this next Christmas, then if it doesn't do well, they'll stop production.

When the ps3 succeeds. The longer the ps2 stays, the more dmg it does to the ps3. It's that simple. Who knew MS decision to force developers to develop for the 360 would pay off.
