I know that Sony has a vested interest in promoting 3D as they sell 3DTVs, but it almost seems like wasted effort on their part to have a fair amount of their games made 3D compatible. Seriously, where are all these people with 3DTVs? I don't know a single person who has one right now, nor have I overheard anyone talking about having one. Most of the time when I hear people talk about 3D their first response is: "do you have to wear those glasses?"

I guess this is kind of a rhetorical question, as I know they're doing making 3D content to get some early adopters to buy the TVs, but I personally just don't see a large benefit right now (or anytime soon).

I think Sony is wasting their time. If they want 3D gaming, they should wait till more people have 3D TVs.

People need an incentive to get a 3DTV. If Sony offers games in 3D, the popularity of their Sony brand 3DTVs may increase. They can't just sit by and hope their product sells. If you want popularity to increase, you have to support that platform. If we did things your way, not many things would be mainstream as they are. There's no other way around it; these things need a push and 3D gaming is one of the ways to push it.

same here , i have a sony 3d tv and IMO 3d gaming is the best visual gaming upgrade since 2d games went 3d in the N64 era , it may not be affordable for everyone but so was ps3 when it launched at 599 price tag.

people do not need incentive, only time... :) i do own a 3-d tv, it is great, not only for 3-d but great overall, i bought my first hd (well, hd-ready) tv set in 2005, so i guess i am a somewhat early adopter, six years ago there weren't so many people with lcd tv sets, but after six years, i do not know someone who uses a crt tv set as the prime system... couple of my friends bought the newer version of my tv after 2 or so years for less than half the price with additional features... the same is true for every bit of electronics, if you are an early adopter you'll experience the benefits of newer technology, of course, earlier, that does not change the fact that that technology will be widespread and cheaper in near future... so as the 3-d tv prices will drop and it will become the new standard, people will come around eventually... right now i am giving my new tv set a shelf life of about 5 - 6 years, after that i intend to move on to glasses-less 3-d tv set on my ps4... :P btw, 3-d content is great if it is natively 3-d (killzone, gt5) and not an add-on (blops, although i enjoyed it a lot)... :)

There's always an incentive. People did not just get blu-ray because they wanted an expensive media player.

well, i thought just like an hd format (audio & visual), 3-d content + ability to view at your home were incentive as well, and therefore we only need time for the technology to become cheaper and widespread... :)

I'm a 3D gamer who is currently playing the Prince of Persia remake, and it's awesome. I can't wait to get my hands on Killzone 3 next week, because the 3D demo was the coolest thing ever. I know that in several years there will be better 3D without glasses, but I'll just get another TV when that tech is more affordable.

3d anything is just a gimmic. i get headaches from playing/watching anything 3d, and i know im not the only one since reviews of games mention this. I am not bying 6 pairs of glasses for friends/family to watch tv at my house. 3d is best left as gimmic in imax theathers or disney world. and im not sure yet if im getting a 3ds just because of the 3d. id rather they spend the extra time/$ into making the game better. Killzone 3 could have had an amazing story if they didnt waste money on 3d.

I have a 3dtv and have never had a headache while watching it even live sports doesn't give me a headache or that foggy feeling i get while at movie theaters. I really love gaming in 3d i think it makes everything look deep especially gran turismo 5. 3d in the hd remake games didnt do very much at all. I have cod blops and its pretty sweet in 3d and now is much more enjoyable since it doesnt crash much. Killzone 3's 3d is pretty nice ill have to wait till the game comes out to make any judgement on that. Plus they have the sports illustrated swimsuit special in 3d at the psn its pretty sweet. The only real drawback to having a 3dtv is no 3d through blockbuster or netflix you can rent some movies off of cable or psn though so its not too bad.

Probably gaming on there pc where there's a substantial amount of 3d content in the form of games hundred of games support 3D on pc on consoles you can count the number of worthwhile 3d games on your fingers. Give it some time for more content to be aviable and prices to drop and the tech to improve and 3d will become more mainstream with more people getting 3dtvs

Well I'd like Sony to make the option between 2D and 3D mandatory so everyone can play it the way they want :/ Personally I can't get enough of it, the added depth increases the atmosphere (at least for me) drastically, can't wait for the full release of Kz3, played the MP Beta in 3D with my 5.1 surround system, it's just fantastic

Exactly. Its called vertical integration. You make a product and in order for it to sell better you make a second product that creates a demand for the first. In this case Sony is working it both ways. They are making 3DTVs sell better because of 3D games, and Playstations are selling better because people need something that supports 3D gaming and movies for their 3DTV. Having just one and not the other wouldn't make any sense at all.

I don't like watching 3D movies right now, so I doubt I'd care much about 3DTV. Every time I have watched a 3D movie, a) I've felt it was almost unnoticeable (especially considering the 30% price increase for the ticket), b) it gave me a headache and/or eye strain or c) made me generally feel strange.

If I watch a movie I prefer to see it in 2D.

Plus, some groups have said that sustained 3D viewing and mess up your vision (depth perception) fairly bad. I'm not sure if they are absolutely right, but it sounds plausible.

Your sig is hilarious. What a dummy. lol. Anyway, I'm extremely interested in 3D gaming, but I'm one of the many waiting for the technology to cook to perfection and hopefully drop in price. I don't want to pay that much for another TV set AND have to wear those dang glasses.

I'll be getting a 3dtv pretty soon, but not specifically for the 3d.

Coincidentally, it seems that most 3dtv's have some of the best 2d pictures, at least from the reviews I've been reading, so that's my major incentive. I see the 3d as just a bonus really.

I've seen a few 3d movies at the theatre's, and I have to say I was not at all impressed. I think it's something that, given time, could be awesome, but it seems really lackluster to me right now.

Well, since HDTVs aren't too terribly old a lot of people have probably just gotten theirs within the past five years or so and have no intentions of getting a new set anytime soon. Eventually, though, those sets will be dated and start breaking down. When that happens there will probably be a lot of great 3D sets in everyone's price ranges and tons of media to take advantage of it with. It will take time, but eventually the market will come around to it. Hell, look at the blurays. A lot of people claimed that it wouldn't take off as a format because players were so expensive, but now they got their own wall in Blockbuster.

why is sony putting resources in to 3d games? as others have said, its to give people a reason to buy 3dTV's. if there is little or no 3d content then why buy a 3dtv? I for one will pick up a 3d tv when there cheaper and when i do not need to wear glass's to watch it. i already wear eye glass's and haveing to wear 2 sets of glass's would be a major pain. i expect once the price of 3dtv's goes down to wear most people can afford them thats when they will start marketing glass's free 3d at high prices to once again ring the cash out of early adopters. lol :p

honestly if they want 3d gamin to grow insanely they need to make their 3d tvs cheap enough for the average gamer ,

see why ps3 did not take off in the first place then youll understand ,

1000-2000 is to much to drop on a tv ,i can go ot a car lot right now and drop that on a new car

and get more life out of it vs a tv

another thing about 3d tvs is --glasses ,

i can take it for a few hours but , 4 to 5 , i dont think id want to ,

the glasses are unconfortable period

3d movies have been around in some form for YEARS. The experience still hasn't gotten extremely better.

Mario Kart is right about pricing. The PS3's $500 -$600 price tag initially kept about everyone except for die hard Playstation fans away. Well, part of that also had to do with the available games.. the architecture of the PS3 processor is harder to program for (they say).

I want some type of virtual reality or full vision solution instead of 3D. I want there to be a way to have the game world projected into my entire field of vision, not just "pop out" of the screen at me.

I really don't get the animosity towards 3D. I mean I don't have much interest in it personally, but I don't begrudge Sony's effots or other people's enjoyment of it. Some folks, however, seem to harbor nothing but illwill towards the format and towards Sony and the game developers for even creating it. Same with motion controls.

ur taking it to literally. it was an example. I havent played Killzone 2 to say anything about story, but when devs spend to much time on 1 thing, most of the time something else gets overlooked. if KZ2 has a bad story, its could very well be becasue they spend all the $ on graphics.

I went through a great deal of expense and trouble to get into the whole 3D thing.

I bought a 42 in Panasonic plasma tv two weeks ago for $800 from Amazon. Then i bought the 3D glasses, high speed hdmi cables, and i even bought the Nvidia 3DTV Play software for my PC so i could also play PC games in 3D on my new television. I bought a new tv stand to support my new tv as well. I was all gung ho for the 3D , until i actually experienced it. What a disappointment.

The image is way too dark when you are wearing the glasses.

The resolution on both the PS3 and PC games are cut down to 720p. Some frame rate problems with the PS3 in 3D mode, also some graphics, textures, shadows, etc are missing in 3d modes.

Never got a absolutely clear image on any game in 3D. There was always some kind of ghosting or double image present no matter how you tried to adjust convergence or depth settings on specific games.

So, i returned the tv to Amazon and got my money back, but i was stuck with the 3D glasses and other accessories i bought and dont need anymore.

I wont try 3D again until they perfect glasses-less 3D on a OLED display...and that could be a few more years.

Avatar was awesome in 3D, but every 3D I've seen since was not nearly as good. Not all 3Ds are created equally. There are ones that are shot in 3D like Avatar and then there are ones that are done with software after the fact. The ones done with software just outline certain images and pull them to the foreground and push others back. They look choppy and kind of toonish to me. The ones that are shot in 3D are crazy, though, because everything is in its rightful place in the depth of field and it just looks smooth. Uh.. I guess my point was that you aren't missing much because a lot of the ones that say that they are in 3D aren't even quality 3D. :P

Word. It kinda makes me laugh at the thought of myself wearing the 3d glasses gaming for 4 hours while waving the move wand around. Like really?Really?!? I know people like immersive, but c'mon.. this isnt a harry potter book. I'd feel like a walking Sony brand cattle .

To be fair im sure down the road it'll be worth checking out, but i just cant stand wearing those ridiculous glasses. Now 3D without glasses, and im in.

Yeh, they have to lower the prices of 3D Tv's. You cant get a new one cheaper than $1000. People arn't gonna pay that mnoney just for gaming.

i have a 3d tv; and its the coolest thing. the best part about a 3d tv is video games; the movies are ok but the games are really the best part. tumble in 3d is really cool and shows the limitations of the move. black ops in 3d was cool. killzone 3 in 3d has been the best looking 3d videogame ive played that was made for 3d tvs in mind. fallout new vegas was the best upscaled to 3d video game ive played that wasnt done originally in 3d. actually ive spent hours playing fallout new vegas in 3d and it wasnt marketed as a 3d game.

The frequent use of 3D at the moment is something that will soon wear thin, and before you know it, it won't be overused so much again. (hopefully anyway).

Yea I won't be buying a new tv until around that long and no-glasses 3d would be cool. I did try out GT5 at a best buy in 3d and thought it was cool

I have a 61inch 3d set and the effect is amazing but the taxation on my eyes is just not worth it.The glasses become uncomfortable after a just a hour or so (just like the movie theatres for most people). In 3/4 years when 3d monitors no longer require glasses, 3d will take off.Until then it will remain an overpriced gimmick.I have a big family and at over 100 dollars for one nice pair of glasses,it just isnt worth it.

I played Killzone 3 in 3d (or as I like to call it Killzone 3d) and it was really cool. I had the sharpshooter attachment for the Move too so it felt like I was really in the action. The Sharpshooter attachments puts the Move way ahead of the Kinect in my book, especially for FPS.
