Hey everyone. I've got a bit of spare cash and having completely burnt out in every way on CoD, I'm looking to buy another online shooter. I want at least a recent-ish release game, so my choices have been narrowed down to Crysis 2 and Homefront (don't say you forgot "xxxx" because these are the only ones that interest me). Also, this purchase would only be to keep me busy until I get Brink in June, and then Battlefield 3 later in the year. One one hand, Crysis seems like a nice middle ground between CoD's... CoD-ness, and Halo's "arcade" style multiplayer. I have a lot of fond memories playing Halo with one of my mates on his old Xbox, and I reckon this game could bring back that sort of run-and-gun dynamic fun that I believe has been lost in CoD. Plus the addition of the Nanosuit means more tactical choices and strategy involved in playing a match (not to mention the verticality). On the other hand, Homefront's gameplay looks a LOT like CoD, but the bigger matches, Battle Points system, more unlocks (?) and apparent focus on multiplayer could make it a more entertaining choice. And the emphasis on vehicles makes it very different to CoD, Brink and Crysis 2 alike. Since I'd be buying neither of these games for their storyline, Homefront's disappointingly short 2 hour storyline doesn't bother me, nor does Crysis 2's sluggish 10+ hour campaign. This is for the online multiplayer alone. So which one should I get? Which one is going to keep me happily busy for the next two months? Which one offers the best gaming experience? Which has the best online presence, and value for money? Cheers.

Well I can't comment on Crysis 2 because I haven't played it yet but I did get Homefront and can't say it rocked my world.

I just got it for the online and haven't tried the story mode.

I like the COD games and I'm playing Black Ops but I wanted to try Homefront because I like the story (well I imagined it's China invading not North Korea).

I played it a few nights and went back to Black Ops.

What I found was that when I play Black Ops, I can aim at a guy across the map and hit him in the head - I didn't seem to have that level of control in Homefront, it didn't seem like the characters were as big or something like that.

There also seemed to be plenty of snipers. The maps are more spread out and I found plenty of people just sitting on roofs and sniping. Pretty sad.

Another bugaboo was the servers. Waiting to find a match is not fun and I found I had to wait and wait to find matches. At least with Black Ops, you want a match, you'll get one in seconds usually.

If you can find it cheap, try it out. If you get a used copy and the Battle Code is used, you can probably find one on ebay for $1.00 to $3.00. The game allows you to play online without the code but you can only level up to level 5.

I also got bored with Medal of Honor, MAG and Battlefield 2 if that puts things in perspective.

The community is horrible in cod series. If you don't have a guy camping in a corner with an aku pointed at the door with either claymores or motion sensors sent up, you got people tubing, others thinking that they can pull off crazy sniping shots that they can't. Also its filled with people who shouldn't even have mics with the nonsense they say. If COD did not have a mute function, I proably would have not ever picked it up. Plus people lag really badly (host).

KZ3 is the big boy on the block for MP, these days. But the sniper issue is something that's infected just about every recent FPS online... I don't think you'll find a game where the snipers don't rankle your sensibilities. It's a trend based on players, not titles.

:?

I know it turned me off from a handful of games.

Peace fellow gamer! And Good Hunting!

I haven't played a FPS since "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", but I'll say this: Battlefield 3 has me wanting to get back into the FPS genere. It looks absolutely incredible!:o

dude you wont regret buying Battlefield Bad company 2.... It's way better than CoD in everyway. I don't know much about crysis 2 but it looks fun. Bad Company 2 is EPIC. you can play for hours man im tellin you. buy the ultimate edition and get all the maps vietnam onslaught and everything. its way better than that lame ol' run and gun CoD. Blow up buildings, drive tanks, piolet choppers, use UAV helcopters, drive around on an ATV, and Use a mortar strike to kill multiple enemies at once. oh yeah and not to mention that the maps are WAY freakin bigger, and you know whats fun about big maps you can snipe without dying every 5 seconds. It's takes more stradegy when you work with a squad then just looking for someone to kill. I know i just rambled but I hate when ppl talk about MW2 and Black op's like they are the best thing thats ever happened to this world of gaming cuz in reality they are just lame.

Homefront's online multiplayer is excellent! (the Sp not so much, but i thought it was a bit of fun)

Granted i have only played it on my "other" console, but it's great fun.

Feels (and kinda looks, well done kaos for your use of a pants engine) like Battlefield 2

It's pretty emmersive, and once you get into Battle Commander, it's a pretty decent rush!

I can't recommend Crysis 2's MP, because it generally sucks, and 2 weeks after release I'm finding it a struggle to get into games!

Okay, thanks for the input guys. I may not have made myself to clear in saying that I am sick of CoD, don't want anything to do with it anymore, and need something to tide me over until Brink. So I looked at a few gameplay videos of Crysis 2, Homefront and Battlefield Bad Company 2 (yes, BC2 has piqued my interest) and they all look SO good. They each have their own pros and cons though. Crysis 2 Pros: Fast-paced matches, limited camping/sniping, Nanosuit powers, AWESOME graphics, few quick deaths. Cons: Limited variety of guns, limited game modes, cloak = cheap deaths. Homefront Pros: Large battles, vehicles. Cons: Lots of scope for sniping/camping (no pun intended), limited variety of guns, only one (?) game mode, looks EXTREMELY similar to CoD. BC2 Pros: Cheaper, large battles, vehicles, class-based multiplayer, good variety of weapons, nice graphics. Cons: Older, soon to be superceded by BF3, no prone, limited game modes. I can pretty much say I've ruled out Homefront, it just doesn't meet the standards of the other two. But between Crysis 2 and BFBC2... it's a harder decision. By the way, is the thread going to be locked because questions like these are frowned upon, or just because it may dissolve into a fanboy flame war?
