Anyone played COD4 on PC and PS3?I can't decide which to get it on. My PC rig is pretty decent, probably a bit behind my PS3 though, but on the other hand I have only wireless connection to PS3 which drops sometimes.

Not sure about the controls either. Probably better keyboard/ mouse, but if it's more designed for consoles then maybe not.

Any thoughts?

I have it for PS3 and I love it.
Too bad you connection drops. I have wireless too but don't have any problems. You don't know what the problem may be?

At first, I was a little doubtful about the controls too. I have always thought FPS games should be played on PC with mouse and keyboard. A controller and FPS games has never been a big thing for me, until now. I really love the controller to FPS now, and have only had COD4 for about 3 weeks. (THough I have played Resistance before and I think that helped alot).

I would say, Go for the PS3 version. :)

Good luck with your decision.

I played the PC version and the PS3 version and I have to say that I am impressed with the PS3 version and look at it as the superior one for one thing, the controls on PC are so freakin AWKWARD whereas on the PS3 they are easy.
On the PC version I had to lower the graphics settings so that the game plays smoother on the PS3 it played better and that amazed me! Hands down PS3 version. Oh and the ONLINE is freaking AWESOME!!!

Ok...AgentH obviously have a crappy comp and doesn't know WTH he's talking about. I have happen to have both versions, and while I enjoy them on both platform its obvious which version is better. The PC is a clear choice, if your comp is up to it.

Download the demo http://www.fileplanet.com/180530/180000/fileinfo/Call-of-Duty-4-Demo if it plays at roughly 35-40 fps then get it for your PC. The PC version is king, sporting better textures, controls and depth of field that isn't nearly as annoying and blurry. The mulitplayer is also better thanks to dedicated servers, a browser, and of course...mods. The PC version isn't just $10 cheaper, you can buy it now for $35-40 in some places.

The PS3 version employ an odd matchmaking service that takes the choice out of the multiplayer. Want to look for a headquarters game on the Overgrown map? You can't. The only thing you can do is press the Find Game button and hope for the best. Also for some stupid reason the only game mode that support 18 players is ground war (random CTF/Domination). Everything else is 6 vs 6 only which doesn't make any god damn sense. Want to play 8 vs 8 search and destroy or sabotage? You can't do that either. Why the majority of the game modes are locked to 6 vs 6 eventhough the game is capable of hosting 8 vs 8 is beyond me. None of these issues exists on the PC. You can easily find hundreds of servers for any modes with any map, pick and choose all you want, and the vast majority of them support 32 players for maxium chaos.

Now... you could do all that... or just buy the PS3 version and have a great time :)

This is really a no brainier mate, if you're are an experienced PC gamer with online shooters, PC version of any FPS is superb simple because of controls.

On the other hand, PS3 COD 4 is phenomenal. I have nothing to say against it, simply my favorite FPS on a console for now.

No matter which version you chose, both are excellent. The only difference would be joystick or mouse/keyboard. ^_^

Definetly on the PC. The Call of Duty series was originally made just for the PC.

It doesn't matter that originally series were made on PC, Call of duty 4 is a personal preference and it mostly comes down to which controls you enjoy more.

Joystick or Mouse/Keyboard support. :)

There is nothing wrong with either version.

Listen to me, graphics won't change the way the game is played. In COD4 I enjoyed playing it with the controller. COD4 with keyboard and mouse = JUNK (This goes with the controls of COD4 only and not other FPS games)

Hmm, interesting. I'm leaning slightly towards the PC version. Can you tell me specifically what the control issue is? Are there lots of buttons or something?

Thanks to all for your thoughts!

knive is used when the "k" button is used. How far is that? on PS3 all you have to press is the R3 button which your thumb is already set on.

On Pc version, calling an airstrike is the"6" button on the PS3 you have to press the directional button which is faster and you don't have to move a whole hand to reach it which make your online experience even faster. Grenade launcher = 5 on PS3 directional button. throwing grenade = G NOW THAT'S the BS part, on PS3 it's the R2 button where your finger is already set on, thus faster. freakin running = SHIFT now how awkward is that? on PS3 it's the L3 button. Weapon selection, 1,2,3,4, etc... on PS3, Triangle button which is a quick swap.(You can't carry more than one rifle so I can't see the point of 1,2,3,4) explosives on PC = some button I can't even remember(maybe a number), on PS3 = Directional button. Moving on to the mouse, shooting is done with the left click which is fine whereas on the ps3 it's the R1. I don't have problem with the left click because I am used to it in FPS on PC but the aiming in COD4 on PC is quite different in terms of gameplay and not the controls. To AIM you have to press the usual right click button but you have to reclick it to remove it and there's the annoying part. On PS3 all you have to press is the L1(holding it)and when you're done aiming just release it.

P.S: btw, I only disliked the m/k support in COD4 and in COD4 only. I am getting unreal on PS3 and already bought mouse and keyboard to try it out. I'll also use the controller but I have a feeling that the keyboard and mouse in Unreal beats the joystick because it's "Unreal". Anyway we'll have to see and I'll definitely post my thoughts about them.

Er, CoD 4 mouse and keyboard controls are the same as any game from the CoD series, hell its the same as any PC FPS for that matter. Maybe he has issues with a some weird foreign keyboard or something because the WASD layout is virtually universal in the shooter world. Needless to say you can rebind them to your own liking...this is basic stuff that really doesn't require any explaination.

PC gaming can be complicated and sometimes thats a good thing, but if you have any experience with CoD on the PC at all and if you run the demo smoothly, then buy it for the PC. Keep in mind that multiplayer will be a bit more taxing on your system though.

However when in doubt, buy it for PS3 :D It might be the second best platform but at least you'll know it'll run like silk and its still the best shooter on the PS3. If you want a sure thing go the PS3 route.

Edit: LOL @ Agent control issues. For one he clearly isn't using WASD. Two nobody use G for the nade, LMAO! Three, he has no idea the keys can be rebind and zero experience with PC shooters.

Call of Duty ALWAYS plays better on the PC imo. It's a PC franchise afterall. If your rig is solid, get it for the PC. Plus, you can get it cheaper than for the PS3.

It runs a little better on the PC (depends on your rig), the online connection will be more stable and servers will hit you immediately. I'd say it's about even for both. With the PS3, you can play it on your High-Def t.v. which is more of an advantage...plus surround sound. I recommend getting the PS3 version just cause i have the PS3 version and we could be friends? :P

If I were you, I'd go for the PS3 version because you get to play it on a big tv and not a small computer monitor. You also get better sound than you would on your computer with surround sound, unless you have surround on your computer like me. It's the same game no matter what console you use, but it still runs better on the consoles because they are top notch and more people are on them.

PC if your rig is good first of all you more user generated content mods and such there is already a Christmas maps released for the game also more players online and if you really want it you can use the ps3 controller though the mouse and keyboards better in my opinion cod is a pc game to start with. if it runs good on your pc its like a no brain-er also its like 20 dollars cheaper as well. more content more players controller and mouse and keyboard really its not that difficult a decision if you ask me. but first see how it runs on your pc there is a demo available.

if you dont like the analog controls... just get that PS3 mouse thingy.

Personally, I dont play any games on the PC since I think it should only be used for word documents and porn.

pfff, obvious, PC version of any FPS ftw. plus theres more gamers on the pc version of COD4 than any other version, with tons of servers. if you're good with M/K and like you said you have a decent comp, you should get it for PC. prepare to get owned the first few rounds though, as PC gamers are hardcore, especially the clan servers.
