also will upgrading your hdd void your warrenty or should i wait til 1year is over to upgrade?

i think ive seen a vid on youtube of a guy switching his harddrive nd im pretty sure it duznt void ur warranty if i find the vid ill post it here

I think the PS3 has instructions in the manual on how to replace the HDD, so I don't think something they tell you how to do voids the warranty, unless you damage it yourself. It's just a panel on the outside, not like you have to open the entire case. So take a look at the manual and post back if you have questions, I'm sure there are people here that have installed a HDD themselves.

The OS is not on the HDD, just like the 360 OS is not on the HDD, since it has a version that comes with no HDD. Once you put in the HDD you go into the options tell the PS3 to format the new drive and after that it's ready to go.

Remember, the drive needs to be SATA interface, it has to be a 2.5inch laptop size harddrive, and you want 5400rpm. 4200rpm is too slow, and 7200rpm is not needed. The largest size you can get is a 160gig drive, they do have 200gig drives, but they are only 4200 rpm and cost considerable more.

Choosing a smaller size doesn't save a whole lot of money, so you might as well pay a little more for that to get a lot more space.
