I wouldent call it a winner, I would call it more of a dissappointment. with all the rumors and the hype machine you just hold our breath for the sony press confrence and then you get a psp game montage and then the announcement of the new psp and then it all ps3.
Everyone had their hopes up for what the new psp would have and then they were all smashed
1. Faster loading?????????????? ok...... what? is it going to have some kind of time vortex in it or something?? it is still a umd driven device, how fast can it load.
2.Slimmer and lighter. well I guess that is good....but really how much does that do for gameplaying?
3.Video output. now this is great for people like gamespot who need to capture footage off a psp but really how much is the average joe going to use this.
4.Longer battery life. Great I guess, I just use a car charger.
5.Darth vader.
no second analog stick, no internal memory. what a complete dissappointment.

well that video you are going to be watching on a big screen tv is going to be video meant to be seen on a tiny litte psp screen in a tiny resoloution and it will look like garbage.

You know that little sign that pops up on all movies huh? kiddo do you? it..i-it says 'This movie has been formatted to meet your screen' thats what that PSP UMD's gonna do..
As soon as I bought myself a DS, and two weeks later they announce a DS Lite. And what a surprise, I bought it. My first PSP broke. And I bought a new one, guess when? Two weeks ago. And what a surprise, will I buy the new PSP? Two words: Hell. Yeah.jimboboklashaur
Spoken like a true hardcore (and possible rich) gamer
I'll get a new one just on principle because my current one is all scratched up. I hate having such a marred-looking PSP. Although it would have certainly been nice to have features like internal memory and a second analog stick, that would be less a redesign and more of a new model, like the difference between GBA and DS, instead of the difference between DS and DS Lite.
But I'm not going to jump on the redesign right away. When I'm completely tired of my current PSP (or if it breaks) then and only then will I invest in the new model. The one I have is...acceptable. For now.

UMD movies are actually encoded at 720x480, the same resolution as dvds, so it will look exactly the same as a dvd. encoded videos on your memstick will look fine. I put 320x240, 480x272 videos on my tv before and they looked fine. Not dvd clear but perfectly watchable, and this is coming from somebody who is picky about video quality. Yeah, and you can also run video that's encoded at 720x480 (dvd quality) off the memory stick.
no because im satisfied with my psp, a lighter slimmer PSP for $30 MORE!!!!????
i dont think so....
insaneskater139
actually I don't think they announced what the PSP core would cost but the entertainment packs are $200. One of the packs is the new star wars psp and SW BF: renegade squadron, and it will only cost $200. Since most new PSP games are $40, they sort of lowered the price because 200-40=160, which is $10 less than 170

i mostly agree, nothing that I would consider a must have.Probably not, I was one of the few who didn't actually believe those rumours, heh, and now they turn out to be true. The new design looks almost exactly the same to the old one, the thing that I noticed the most were the rounded edges which look pretty nice. But, I dont think its worth it if you already have one, I mean the only advantage is the Video Out, and that doesn't really bother me. The biggest thing I can't seem to grasp is why Sony didn't include internal memory! That was the psp's BIGGEST flaw in terms of Multimedia, I know a ton of people who don't own psp's solely because there is no internal memory. If it was packing 8Gigs I would definetley have bought one as I'm sure most would.
YES! This thing looks so sleek and with the TV out It will be as usefull as a PS2 wait, I'm wrong, PS2 can only play game and DVD's PSP can do loads:P But I probablly wont be out on launch night:( Xmas will be when I open this awesome thing up(hopefully It'll be out in Europe by then!)! And I probablly will only get it at Xmas anyway, since I wouldn't really know what to get for Xmas and Xmas would suck! And hopefully they'll have a Home out for PSP by then(no, Sony hasn't said anything abut this, It's just a thought which I hope will be reality..) which would be awesome!
EMZ:)
I can't wait. I've wanted a TV out since the beginning. And with the slimmer design, I'm ditching my Zen Vision:M and making my PSP my main media player.gamerfreak13
I've got a Zen Vision M also, and I'm still gonna be using it as my primary media player. Because...
much better storage capacity (30GB compared to 4GB), divx/xvid/mpg playback, which means many files need no conversion, and in the even they do, it's much easier to convert videos to put on it, and a few other playback features as well.
The TV out is pretty nice, though, i think it's a pretty nice addition. But there will be much less hesitation to buy UMDs now, since i'll be able to watch on tv.
