I think its the multitude of dying and restarting that people are going through. Its kind of ironic, after all the crying and moaning about PoP removing traditional death from the game, I though everyone would be estatic about a game that you spend more time dead then you do alive.
What makes it hard is you get back from starting/checkpoint/Archstone when you get killed... but i think that is what makes you strive to get better and stay alive... but still, you will die many times for sure... 8)
When I play a regular game on medium difficulty, I find that's about right for me. I really wouldn't want it any harder or it would be more like work than play. When I hear that Demon's Souls is EXTREMELY hard, I'll take a pass. I'm sure it's a great game and all, just not my thing.
Demon's Souls isn't too hard for me, but one thing that makes it difficult is the potential to lose the souls after spending so much time trying to get them.
I haven't found it as hard as people are saying (similar with Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox when that originally released). About the only thing that gets annoying is losing souls if you die and then die again before reclaiming your body, particularly if you have a lot of them. It's one of the design decisions in the game that's truly mean. But like everything else it's negated a bit with patience and taking advantage of small glitches to game bosses and tough enemies to death.
It wasn't too hard for me on my first playthrough. Sure I died alot but I learn from my mistakes. Now, New game + is a different story especially when I wasn't prepared for it.
