i wanna know, is it really a bad game? gs gave it 6.5. is mh2 better? is mh1 still worth getting? i really need an rpg fix and so far my options are two worlds mh1, mh2, and finishing diablo 2.

mh2 sold 1.5million copies in japan.
its 1 of the best game ever created.
if you got friends who can play with you, then MH2 is a must buy.
some people bought PSP just for 1 game, thats MH2.
Well, the gamespot editors also have their own preferences and tastes, so you can't really blame them for giving a game a low rating even if everyone else says it's good.
For instance, I gave Daxter a low rating while everyone else gave it a high one. So the editors might not have liked it.

Same I hated Daxter, so boring.
different people have different taste the games are great but they aren't for everyone. Lack of online play hurts the games in some reviewers opinions but playing it in adhoc mode is great plus there's enough single player mission to keep you busy for a long time.
MHF 1-2 arent for everybody but if you get into the games they are a blast to play and a real show piece of the PSP power.
I actually enjoyed it and was not impressed with the review it got from GS. I enjoyed it so much, I think it was the first game review I gave! =) I'm awaiting my MH2 though.....I hope it's a worthy successor!

To me, you should always just think of the Gamespot review as just another players review and not really pay anymore attention to it than you would to a user review...as its only one person reviewing the game. It would be better if they had several people rate the game and average the score, but this would make reviews take a LOT longer.
For me though, MHF1 and 2 are two of the best if not the best two games ever made, but I've seen other people who hate them. Watch some videos, view pics, and read reviews and see if its your kind of game. MHF1 and 2 aren't much different in terms of quality of gameplay, so don't think that the first one sucks, because it is a masterpiece in my book.

what game can you compare it to? the way reviewers describe it makes it sound like oblivion without the storyline. thats not a bad thing, the story of oblivion is uninteresting and the related quest are boring compared to side quests(i guess its because you pretty much know how the game will end from the beginning, but with side quests you dont really know what will happen next.)
MH doesn't really have a story other than you're are this person out to hunt monsters. You redo missions over and over to gather supplies, and to sharpen your skills. As you progress via missions to kill a certain type of monster, you get harder monsters.
Unless MH2 is different (haven't gotten the Smollett hands on it yet), there is no story other than what's needed to setup a decent world that you can play around in.
If I had to compare it with oblivion, I'd say its like what happens AFTER the main quest. You just run around and do what you want.

The first good opinion I've heard in a while.
