I know this update came out a while ago, but it's completely idiotic. Now instead of turning off when the system is doing nothing, you can set it to turn off in the middle of a movie or game. Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people will use that. There's no setting for turning off while the PS3 is idle. What could they possibly have been thinking when they changed this?

I noticed this too. Its really annoying actually because it happens during most movies or Netflix binges now. I think Im going to turn the setting off. I always shut my PS3 off when I stop gaming anyways.

Well it worked fine before so it was time to make it "new & improved" which really means new & worse than ever. These updates where they mess with sh*t just for the sake of messing with it are a waste of time and resources.

It's just another example of Sony tempering with the property we paid for. More system degredation. I was mad I couldn't set the ps3 to shut off upon completion of downloads. Pretty stupid but it is more than happy to do so after install the next day while ps3 has ran all night long. :/

Um....you can actually do that, you know. But you have to choose Turn Off System from Users, check the box, and select Yes.

Yes you can. When you are background downloading something just go to turn off your ps3 via the xmb and it will set it up to download everything and install everything and shut down when all the installations are complete.

OMG, I'm glad it's not just me! After I (finally) did the update last night, I just happen to be chillin'--listening to some music--then suddenly, out the corner of eyes (as I was on my laptop) I saw my system just cut off!! Like to have s*** a brick....I swear I got all paranoid (as I lost my first PS3 to YLOD) and thought my system died! When I checked to see if I could cut it back on, and it did, then I was like 'WTF was that about??'. Then I got kinda pissed b/c not only did it cut off right as I was listening to music it interrupted my controller charging, too.

I see. Silly me I thought pressing shut off would shut it off right away. I guess I didn't know a screen might pop up giving me that option.

I think it was to fit into some new energy saving legislation somewhere in Europe, and they just pushed it out to all regions to keep things simple.

I wish it had a setting where it will automatically shut off after my controllers are done charging. i actually like how you can have it shut off automatically after a DL completes. They just need to add it following the controllers charging and I will be a happy dude.
