1. Great exclusive titles coming in a few months and the upcoming year
2. Ability to use one of many available HDMI slots in my household and provide the best possible picture and audio for my systems with an HDMI 1.3 output
3. Cheap Bluray player (I have a library of 20 or so Bluray movies)
4. Upgradable hard drive (I save money in the long run if I chose to upgrade [which I did])
5. Backwards compatibility with PS1/PS2 games
6. Interconnectivity between the PSP
7. Interconnectivity between other storage mediums
8. Great hardware to support the future gaming
9. IMO Best looking console out there
It has exclusive games coming out that I want, it looks great, and it has lots of features that are fun toys for me to play with. I can hook it up to my parents' HDTV and use it as a Blu-Ray player. Even though the games aren't out yet, I can still play my PS2 games on it to keep me occupied. And last but not least, it's Sony, and I know from years of experience that they make quality equipment that's VERY reliable.
Plus, it's black and sexy. ;)Â

I agree with all the above, except the fugly comment, this is the best lookin console my eyes ever layed on.
But the reason why I waited for the PS3 to be available before I invest in a nextgen console is Reliability. Yep, Sony's consoles have delivered since forever.

This is probably the best response to your question. I believe everything is covered on this response. Number 8 is going to be more important in the next 2 years.Â

Yea the PS2 was extremely reliable LOL!

I have the best reason of all.
I had a 360 and I loved it, but it died. So instead of risking that all over again I got a PS3 and I love it. So all is well. The only game I really miss is Crackdown. I love having no cost and lag free online and built in rechargable batteries in the controller, it's saving me fortune.

True. Oh! Sarcasm... Okay.  Â
I bought one PS2, when it got released, tried to mod it myself (I'm a true electronics amateur) and it got real messy in there, gave up, got it back in one piece and it still works perfectly for my younger brother. That was about 3 years ago, I'd say that my PS2 experience is/was a reliable one. Â
I also meant reliable in offering great games consistently, but I sure don't need to debate on that issue...

I second that - great answer. I would only add that the PS3 also comes with the great PS2 controller design that I am used to and prefer over other controllers out there but with the added bonus of motion control. And yeah, I have 12 Blu-Ray titles right now and the funny thing is, before I got my PS3 I saw the BD player as a bonus but didn't think I would actually use it that often. Now I watch HD movies as much as I play games and I love it. Also:
10. Sony hardware reliability and warranty.

You're ABSOLUTELY right, your visit in the PS3 forum was worth it. I'll trade my console for it's rival this afternoon. Thanks for the enlightment.
Â
EDIT: Yea... I'm gonna have a HARD time finding someone or a store that will agree on that trade, I'm aware, but you've proven me it's worth a shot.Â
1. I can play 95%+ of all my past playstation games
2. Resistance, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter 5 and the best console version of Oblivion are all already out
3. Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Metal Gear 4, Final Fantasy 13, God of War 3, new Wipeout, new game from creators of ICO and Shadow of Colossus, Assassins Creed, Devil may Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, etc etc
4. FREE online mulitplayerÂ
5. Ability to download PSone classics to your ps3
6. Included Wifi support
7. HD movies with Blu Ray (I just got the HD remaster of Dragons Lair today, sweet!)
8. Solid, reliable hardware as opposed to... cough cough Xbox 360, im sick of my 360 disc drive actiing all buggy!
9. Upgradable hard drive, dont have to pay 180 bucks for buggy transfer to a new 120gb drive like 360

OK OK! I'll stick with it :D Â
I am thinking of getting a PS3 and I was wondering why did y'all get a PS3 so that this may help me decide if I should get one or not...nobodyshero87
Â
Well I've heard about it, read up on it, seen things on it before it came out.Â
Â
I wanted one, so I used my brain to decide for myself and bought it. Maybe you should do the same...Â
I bought mine because i own a PS1, PS2, PSP, so hey why break a good streak.
And to boot it has the largest library of games i'm interested in
transfer pictures, movies, music onto HDD for viewing on my TV, booyah.
I wanted something that wouldn't be outdated like two days after i bought it, and becasue i knew i wouldn't have to buy a newer console for at least 7 years.
1. Gran Turismo
2. Metal Gear
3. the great controller i grown to love
4. backwards compatibility (ecspecially cause my PS2 was on its last leg after 6 years)
5. I despise the setup of thatbox's controller, its like trying to hold and play a qwertry keayboard like a controller....
6. Halo [although amazing] doesnt justify a console purchase in my book even if it is cheaper.
7. free online gaming.
8. last gen when my PS2 was being called a pixelstation2 by thatbox fans i decided i dont like them or their system.Â

All of those reasons.
360 has its ups too, better online service (thus far, and excluding the idiots you have to deal with on there), lower price tag... any choice you make this gen will be a good one.
I love my PS3, for the record, and there are plenty of good games out, despite what the buzz on the street tells you.Â

I'd also like to add to this:
10. Wireless support out-of-the-box (since 20GB is discontinued)
11. Free online play
12. Support for many USB devices (so you don't have to buy 1st party devices)
13. Great 1st party development titles coming to the Playstation Network (notably Little Big Planet)
14. SIXAXIS motion sensing controller (gyroscopic)
14. No need to buy additional devices to recharge your controllers (like some other companies)
15. Great quality hardware, and great warranty to back it up
16. Bluray leading HD-DVD in worldwide sales
1. Great exclusive titles coming in a few months and the upcoming year

Very well put.Â
In reference to #1, the games I most anticipate are: Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Eight Days, Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, SOCOM, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, God of War 3, Warhawk and Gran Turismo 5. I'm sure I've forgotten some, but as you can see the PS3 has plenty of exclusives.
Free online is a nice plus, and with Home on the horizon, the PSN is looking more and more promising every day. Built in Bluetooth is also great for those of us who want to chat online with cell phone headsets.
And once you see how great next gen DVDs (Blu-Ray and HD-DVD) look on an HDTV, you'll be glad you have a Blu-Ray player.Â
