Because people have different ideas on what something epic is.
Some people see Valkyria Chronicles as epic and others just see it...or something.:P
I also downloaded the demo and didnt like it. Just matters what people like and dont like. And the game is not epic btw.
maybe you should try games more then 10 mins to see if you like itSo I tried the trial on PSN, played it for about 5-10 mins. And I hated it! It's no RPG I ever played.

Well, I also hated it the first several times I played the demo. The demo sucks. No lie. It does the real game no justice whatsoever. Its just too shallow and doesn't even scratch the surface of the gameplay and story depth this game offers. After listening to all the endless praise for the game I bought it and was blown away. I ended up spending an entire month on it without ever even taking it out of my PS3. I absolutely love this game. Its in my top three for the best PS3 exclusives.... demo be damned. Everyone likes it because they played it. ;)So I tried the trial on PSN, played it for about 5-10 mins. And I hated it! It's no RPG I ever played.

For one thing, demo does it no justice. It also appeals to a specific niche of gamers really. If your not a fan of strategy RPG, obviously you aren't going to like it. But in its genre, its absolutely one of the best. raven_squadActually, I was never a fan of SRPGs and HATE regular strategy games, but this game is so beyond either genre I'd say it deserves a class of its own.

Well of course there will be rare cases such as this, but generally speaking, you need to at least be somewhat interested in the genre to devote it the time and effort it needs. 10-15 minutes sounds like "me no likely SRPG". :P

I also wanna try Persona, but even devoted fans tell me I wouldn't like it. What's up with that? Anyway, me no likey SRPG even after 5 or 6 full playthroughs of the demo. Me still no likey regular strategy games, but I'm a little more open to the SRPG genre now that I've played the full game. To me though its more like a TPS with SRPG elements. Or an SRPG with TPS elements..... whatever. :P

I loved FFT thats why I want to try a more in depth SRPG like Desgaea
EDIT: Also Desgaea is a very deep game you can level up to 9999 its really not for newcommers to the SRPG genra IMO you should strat out with FFT
Man, playing FFT for the first time is like taking consecutive shots of vodka. Its such a pain at first because it shows no mercy and enemies laugh while they stab you in the back. But after a while you just push yourself to handle it and eventually you ask for something stronger. I recently got back into playing Disgaea 3 again and its reminded me that it deserve more credit than I have previously given it. Sure it doesn't have tight gameplay like Valkyria Chronicles but it still boggles my mind that probably I'm over 100 hours into the game and I still haven't even scratch the surface of all the content. Got the two characters Gig and Revya and they are so awesome, Gig is somewhat weak but he has some wicked skills.
Quick question: Is there anyone here who hated Final Fantasy Tactics but loves Disgaea?
I've really wanted to get into the series, but I'm too scared because I absolutely hated FFT.
I love Valkyria Chronicles, as the battles don't happen on an isolated block of land suspended in space, and it isn't grid based. I just want to know if I will like Disgaea because it looks too much like FFT.
If your that set against FFT, I would say Disgaea would be almost for certain a skip. Obviously there's no way of telling for sure, but they have so much in common.Quick question: Is there anyone here who hated Final Fantasy Tactics but loves Disgaea?

Nephilim, I don't see why a devoted fan would attempt to steer you from the franchise. You seem to be a fan of TBRPG. I'm playing Persona 4 right now, and it's so far the best experience of the year for me. Phenomenal game. raven_squadAh just wait til you meet Chihiro again.:P

Hmmm, well Disgaea's maps are suspended in space and are grid based soooo if you hate that then theres no way around it. However, Disgaea I would say is the complete opposite of FFT in terms of everything except graphics and being grid-based suspended in space.
The makers of Disgaea have other similar games out on the PS2 called Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom. These two games are similar to Disgaea except for one thing: Its not grid based.
It's kind of weird. I'm a huge RPG fan, I played games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, World of Warcraft (loved them all), yet I couldn't get into this game.

I deserve it. :( Seriously though, I'm going to get it next time I get a hold of some money. I just bought Space Channel 5. :PHmmm... thanks guys.
I guess I'll pass on Disgaea.
It's too bad... I really wanted to get into it, as the colors they used are magnificent.

Disgaea 3 is in 1080P too. MMMMmnm soooo bright.
I'm going to rent it then, to see if the bright colors are worth the ridiculous gameplay setting.
well, VC is not the kind of game you can understand in 10 minutes, it's a pretty deep game and you are still learning things about the game in chapter 7 and beyond so you can't judge it after 5 to 10 minutes
Meh, some people don't like it. It's just not their thing. The demo is only a small little piece of the game though, so it's sort of unfair to base the whole game on that alone.
I think it's epic, so that's all that matters to me. I could care less if people don't like it or don't buy it. They'd be doing it wrong, but hey, it's their decision :P
