For some reason, my PSP likes to turn itself off when I'm playing a game. It's been happening a lot lately when I got KH-Birth by Sleep. It's really annoying because it cuts off during a game before I could save a game. Why does this happen?
Probably. My brother's PSP has been doing this ever since he replaced the battery with a fake one. you mean a knock off battery (=it looks like it's a sony one but it isn't)??
This has happened to a lot of people I know over the last 4 years or so. It's usually the battery being lose. You can either tape the battery area or get a new PSP (3000). The v1000 PSPs do this much more frequently.

My friend's 3000 model would do that too. It suddenly stopped after a while. Why don't you try playing with the AC adapter and without the battery so you can see if it's the PSP itself.
