understand that if they're complaining how hard it is to develop for the PS3, why won't they take the tools that Sony is offering them with Playstation Edge. It really makes me mad when I read their comments on how hard it is todevelop games on the machine. Look at Killzone 2, Guerilla is using the tools for the game and it looksabsolutely stunning.Plus on the bright side, Sony isn't charging for their tools, so why don't developers just take the tools and just work what Sony is offering them? What do you guys think?

Enough enough enough, Its not developers its just two UBISOFT AND EA that are making bad games on the ps3. EA even proved to make bad games on the xbox360 than the ps3 take tigers pga tour for example. They are lazy and they have proven it already. You name any other developer that made a version on the ps3 worse than the xbox 360... I have tried to find some and yet I have foun dnone and don't even use oblivion because its already stated that the ps3 looks and runs a lil better than the xbox 360.

in reality, i think they're complaining more about how hard it is toPORT to the PS3

Capcom, Tecmo andGRAW's developerhave alreadydenied that
they all disagree that the PS3 is harder to develop for comparing to the other machine

I agree, but why don't they just build it from the ground up instead of porting it if they're trying to learn the use of the PS3's architecture?

maybe because they emphasize on the other machine's version since it's got a larger install base, and it takes less time since they're alreadyfamiliar with it

once again same thing was said abou the ps2, and of course it will be difficult at first what isnt? Developers need to learn from Insomniac that is ready to do so (on their website).

they just got the Edge Tools at GDC07. even though these tools should make development easier... they still need to take the time to learn and understand how to use those applications.

as far as Guerrilla doing well on the development side... all SCE teams got the Edge Tools since their creation, so they had the time to learn how these tools should be used. this shows that when third party dev teams have the amount of time on the Edge Tools as all SCE teams... then their games look great as well.

increased amount of time and effort to develop another game stops dev teams to do this. Publishers just won't allow it when porting would be easier.

on the upside... more developers are choosing the PS3 as its lead SKU for their games. all games using the Renderware Engine will have PS3 as lead SKU, and if the Gamespot NDA slip-up is correct, all EA Sports games for 2009 will be optimized for the PS3.

As time goes by, more devs are going to look at the PS3 and really work on the software for their games. The only problem is that the more devs develop for the PS3, the more money they have to put into it.

At least Ubisoft is trying to dig into the PS3's architecture, while EA on the other hand, just gives us crappy ports that look worse compared to the 360.

So tru. Insomniac already understood the PS3's hardware when making Resistance, and now they're making Ratchet and Clank only one year later! IG is crazy. :D

Actualy coding for the cell isnt that complicated, its just most devs are used to dumping everything onto 1 CPU, while for thye PS3 you make specific functions for specific units. The devs are going to have to learn to do it that way sooner or later as Quad Core goes standard in 2008.

Well a couple of things. Devs are often using edge, but it's not a miracle, it just makes things a little easier. the ps3 seems to be extremely powerful, but its power is difficult to bring to bear. As you can imagine from the cell's architecture, it's extremely difficult to design a programming framework around it.

The edge dev tools contain a bunch of profilers which helps devs manage the processor useage among other things, its nothing they wont already have, but its made by sony/nvidia so may help in places. There is also a set of tech to help people do back face culling and such.

The technology in the PS3 is so far advanced (reason for the problems learning the system. Now with the tools that Sony has released it makes things easier to learn. I think there was a article where Sony would send teams in to help the developers when they asked for the help.
