But seriously, GTA always has such a neat storyline - and the open ended gameplay is amazing. So much to do. It's because of GTA that more games are striving to be open ended sandbox games.

I am guessing you havent played GTA SA - it's amazing.

The fact you mention Saints Row as having a "story" thats better then a GTA game is just comical. Dont get me wrong Saints Row was a solid attempt but the story IMO was the lamest thing ever. Wow you are part of a gang, take territory and then mix in the fact your fighting with other gangs for territory!! WOW!! Oh and did i mention the under cover cop in your gang!?! MAN....such intensity.....

In any case Saints Row is an amusing game and its fun to mess around with but the story is not remotely as good as GTA's well except San Andreas, that stunk story wise.

Its popular because everyone wants to be a hardcore gangster thug... as much of a scum they are in real life these 'gangster' type people - there are many who wishes they were one or they try to act like one and then theres those who can only think how fun at times it would be to be one.

This game attracts those that are 'gangster' because of the violent nature of the game, it also attracts the gangster-wannabes because they want to be gangster in real life tries to look like one but on the inside they're just plain soft but with a game like this they can think they're hardcore by bashing and mugging people, and lastly theres the norms, the normal people, that can only imagine how fully sick it would be living the gangster life growing and selling drugs for easy money 5 finger discounts etc etc but they're just plain soft altogether and would prefer to stay out of jail but could always pick up this game for the fun of all the things they cant do in real life but can do in the game.

I wouldnt be surprise if its game like this that encourages society to be so scum-like nowadays with the amount of muggings, thievings, drive-offs, hit and runs, shootings etc

Although, I do like Grand Theft Auto and I'm socially normal haha

GTA's appeal comes from the freedom it gives to the player...the ability to tackle the game's objectives whenever you want, and the variety of things you can do outside of the game's missions. Even something as simple as taking wounded folks to the hospital in a stolen ambulance or delivering pizzas can be fun diversions from the main game. It's not all about killing people and having sex with hookers. The gameplay can be enjoyable and generally outlasts 90% of other games that promise replay value and length.

That said, the GTA gameplay got stale to me two games ago. I personally think it peaked with Vice City; didn't enjoy San Andreas much at all. I don't expect Saints Row 2 to be a technically better game than GTA IV, but at least with the gang war story and the ability to create my own character, it will be more interesting and fun to me than GTA IV ever would be. Thus, I'm one of the 1% of the gaming population that isn't very interested in GTA IV.

well what can i say to all these posts who can say id rather play saints row and it has a decent story?? what the hell is that about saints row was just a sheer copy of gta wiv a crappy story and just didnt do anything look at the missions every single one was pretty much the same, if u even played gta properly you understand that there stories and missions are just the best around.

yes theres guns yes sex and yes most people just love to go around blowing things up but the beauty is in the story, everything you set out to do is getting to the bottom of the stories which are amazing its a great game because it cvombines everything in one game, you have the open endedness of a game like oblivion, you have the story of great games, you have the ability to dirve loads of different cars motorbikes, planes, helicopters, boats, and you can pretty much do wot you want within the city. that is why it is the top game.

saints row is nothing on that look at the story of that your in a gang your going about to take on the whole city and take it all over thats pretty much it they talk to u and ur character is stood there blanked face whats that about. i want to be involved with the story i want to feel the emotion what there going frew i want to feel the story grasp me and at the same time if i feel like it i want to go blow stuff up like a big kid i am.

Ok cool I am just curious as to what type of games people play that hate GTA4... I mean do you really hate it or just hate the fact that it is so popular? cause I mean I see you like FPS, sports, and games with good stories, even free roam games so I dont know why you dont like it... ok by all the posts I can see i'm getting in this late. i haven't been on here in a while, but now i have something to say.

The reason I like GTA?

Because the first time I played it was in the Basement of my cousins house in Michigan. I was there for a visit, and just playing that game was awesome. You know what I did as the young and naive little kid that I was? I just drove around listening to Lazlow on Chatterbox. It was great. Sometimes, I stopped at red lights and acted like a real citizen of Liberty City, if it wasn't so crime driven. When I got back, I HAD to keep playing that game. It was so great. So i rented it, then bought it, because at the time it was at the *i think* $10 mark. Then the retardedness of me, I bought Vice City afterwards, and thats when the Double Pack was out. So that showed how much fun i thought GTA3 was over GTAVC. I also LOVED the artwork of GTA3 and the overall atmosphere. The Mafia story and the New York based city. I never been there and that a reason why I played GTA3 so much. But The Whole craziness of just doing w/e I wanted in a game, especially violence wise. A lot of the stuff we do in GTA, we really can't do in real life. Plus i was kid too, driving; Fun, killing: uh just pixels no souls so...fun, hookers; funny. that was so funny just doing that. And i just really love the open sand box gameplay. I bought GTA3 a total of 3 times. Once for PS2, then PC, then again on PC because i lost the discs. And I've done the same with San Andreas and Vice City. Buying on console and then buying on PC. I have both PSP games, because right there, i just love how they push limits on hardware. Rockstar Games are real true developers and their Name fits their quality of products, except for a couple. If I hadn't picked GTA3 out of the games list he had that day, I wouldn't have become the big fan of the franchise that I am today.
